Homework
• Feedback from Year 7 students tells us that homework is one of the most difficult aspects of transition to secondary school
• Establish a routine – For the first half-term support your child by getting them to pack their own bag, but with you present. This way they are less likely to forget equipment, books & homework
• Homework timetable issued - Support your child by checking their diary each evening and helping them to plan and complete their homework
• Complete homework on night set and ask your child to show it to you, if you have access to the internet check the school’s VLE - FROG
• 3 week amnesty on H/W sanctions for Year 7 students – allow us time to identify concerns and put support in place

• All pupils are taught in set groups for the following subjects: English, Maths, Science, RE, Languages, History and Geography
• At the beginning of year 7, the pupils are placed in broad ability sets based on their KS2 scores for English, Maths and Science
• In the second half of the Autumn term, each subject reorganises the sets to ensure that the pupils are in the most appropriate set for their ability. This is based on a combination of Teacher Assessment during the Autumn term, KS2 scores and CATs scores
• All pupils sit CATs (Cognitive Ability Test) in the first week. The pupils should not worry about these tests as they cannot revise or prepare for them.
