Baptism If you are thinking about having your baby or child baptised in the parish please speak to Fr. Michael in the first instance. Baptisms usually take place during Sunday Mass or at 12.30pm (Oadby) or 1.00pm (Knighton) Sunday outside of Mass.

First Reconciliation and Holy Communion for children of Year 4 and above. Preparation programme involves regular meetings for children and parents commencing September 2019 (Parents only Meetings) and January 2020 (Children only Meetings)

Confirmation for young people of secondary school age and above. Preparation programme involves a Rite of Commitment and regular meetings (including celebrating Reconciliation).

Marriage If you wish to marry please speak to Fr. Michael at least six months before your proposed wedding date. Please do not make any other arrangements concerning your wedding until Fr. Michael has confirmed the availability of the Church for your wedding.

Sacrament of the Sick As this is a Sacrament of Healing it is appropriate to request this if you are sick or before a hospital admission. Hospital chaplains can be contacted through the hospital staff or though our Parish Office. The Sacrament is no longer reserved for extreme circumstances. The Sacrament for the dying is Eucharist (Viaticum i.e. food for the journey).

Second reading 1 Corinthians 2:1-5 When I came to you, brothers, it was not with any show of oratory or philosophy, but simply to tell you what God had guaranteed. During my stay with you, the only knowledge I claimed to have was about Jesus, and only about him as the crucified Christ. Far from relying on any power of my own, I came among you in great ‘fear and trembling’ and in my speeches and the sermons that I gave, there were none of the arguments that belong to philosophy; only a demonstration of the power of the Spirit. And I did this so that your faith should not depend on human philosophy but on the power of God.

This weekend is a special weekend of prayer for Racial Justice. The theme this year is “You are the heart of the Church” and celebrates the contribution Travelling Communities make to the Church in England and Wales. It is an opportunity for us to pray for, reflect on and respond to

racial justice matters within the Church and wider society.

Monday 10th February Lectio Divina for Parents with toddlers/babies after 9.00am Mass and every fortnight in term time. This is open to all even if you haven’t got a little one to bring! Lectio Divina is Latin for divine /spiritual reading of the Bible. It is a method of prayer and

scriptural reading intended to promote communion with God and deepening of faith.

THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION…

Bishop Patrick McKinney will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation on Friday 19th June 2020 at St. Thomas More Church, Knighton.

If you are of secondary school age and wish to prepare for this Sacrament, please complete an application form available in the Narthex of both parishes as the preparation process will

commence shortly. Application form and letter as detailed on the form MUST be completed by the CANDIDATE. Preparation includes attending Mass on a regular basis and celebrating the

Responding to Laudato Si… Thank you to 20 plus people who came to the Global Healing film last Thursday and contributed to the lively discussion. People are causing global heating and environmental degradation; through the inspiration of Pope Francis and the Holy Spirit, we Catholics can start to change attitudes to consuming and throwing away the resources of the planet, which is our common home and God’s creation. Ideas discussed included: buying local produce (and only as much as we need); organising a parish litter-picking; and becoming a Live Simply parish.
