FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK… Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Francis de Sales Parish, Are your children registered for Religious Education? Classes will be starting soon! It is so important that the children and youth of our parish receive a firm foundation in the faith. Christian formation consists of four main areas: Faith, Sacraments, Christian Life, and Prayer. Faith is a stance of trust in God and reliance on God’s grace, and the study of faith entails the content of our beliefs (for example, our belief in the Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit; our belief in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church etc.) The Sacraments help us to grasp our faith through signs and symbols which speak to us of Christ’s presence and his saving grace. Christian Life refers to morality, developing a “moral compass,” learning to distinguish right from wrong, and living according to Gospel values. Prayer is communication with God, done both communally (at Mass and other liturgical events) and personally (in our own devotions and prayers of the heart). What a treasure we have to pass on to our children in our religious education classes! Let’s take seriously our responsibility to educate our children in the life of faith. God’s Blessings, Fr.

THANK YOU, FROM SEMINARIAN JOHN BAUMGARDNER Peace of Christ! I wanted to thank everyone here at St. Francis de Sales Parish for your prayers, support, and encouragement during my time here these past few summers. It has meant so much and I’ve been inspired by the generosity of everyone here. I really appreciated the opportunity to learn and gain experience in pastoral ministry, and in a particular way, want to thank Father Jim Schuerman for his kindness and hospitality in helping me during my time here. I will return to Rome for my last year of seminary formation and will be ordained to the diaconate on Thursday Sept. 29, 2016 at St. Peter’s Basilica. Next summer, I will be ordained to the priesthood on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Milwaukee; everyone would be more than welcome to attend if they were interested. I plan to celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving here at St. Francis after I would be ordained, though the date and time of that are still TBD. Please know of my prayers! Don’t hesitate to be in touch if there’s anything I could ever do, even if just for a prayer request. I can be reached by e-mail: [email protected], or by mail: John Baumgardner, Pontifical North American College, 00120 Vatican City State, Europe.

Thanks and God Bless, John
