We are the first and only urology practice in Queensland to offer a mobile urodynamic and incontinence assessment service. The purchase of this equipment will improve access for patients who are seeking specialist help in quality assessment and management of their incontinence. Dr Kate Gray is providing this service at our central Brisbane practice and also at Everton Park and Greenslopes. From January 2017 the mobile service will be available for Central Queensland. This is an open access service for GP’s and other specialists, with ongoing shared management with our urologists available, as required. Incontinence is a troubling problem for many Australians both men and women alike. 65% of women and 30% of men sitting in a GP waiting room report some type of urinary incontinence, yet only 31% of patients seek help from a health professional. Urodynamic assessment is a useful tool, overseen by a urologist, for those patients where initial management strategies have failed or the type of incontinence is not clear. While for many there are simple strategies such as bladder retraining, pelvic floor exercises and medications that can help, there remains a significant number of patients, where further investigations and management is needed to assist in achieving the best outcome. Kate consults on a significant number of patients with neurological conditions and patients seeking a second opinion in the management of their incontinence. Our practice continues to offer early initial appointments for patients with incontinence and provides efficient workup and management pathways. This is supported by our “in house” nursing care with pelvic floor exercises education and bladder retraining available as needed. We were the first urology practice in Australia to offer “in rooms” botox injections for urgency WELCOME to the first edition of Brisbane Urology Matters, in which we keep you up to date and add value to your practice with our expertise and information.
