You’ve got 2 of us here today! I am Lori Jensen – the Product Program Manager for the West region of Girl Scouts Dakota Horizons and with me is Jennifer–

Hi! I’m Jennifer…

We are going to talk about lots of things today, including what the programs is all about, the benefits of participating, the girls rewards along with lots of NEW things happening this year! And of course we will give you all the important dates.

To get us started, let us introduce you to our Fall theme! Bravely be you and trust your strengths as you begin your journey in Girl Scouts! Each year, we have a mascot that shows up throughout the program – this year she is a 3-toed pigmy sloth. Watch your mail and GSDH Social Media for some fun things coming involving our council sloth, Sloe Moe. So hang with me and Sloe Moe will slooooooowly guide us through this overview!

So, what IS The Fall Product Program? You may have heard the term: Council Sponsored Program. We have 2 council-sponsored programs at Dakota Horizons – The Fall Product Program and the Girl Scout Cookie Program. These 2 programs combines educational and skill building activities with lots of benefits such as an opportunity for the troops and service units to earn funds and the girls earn fun rewards. During the Fall Product Program girls sell delicious nuts, chocolates and magazines.This program is specifically directed toward family and friends and is the first step for troops to earn funds early to help their troop get started in their Girl Scout year!

So first, lets talk about those benefits!

So we ask ourselves, why are we doing this? It’s a busy time of year. What do the girls get out of this? And those are great questions! The simple answer is – it’s all about the girls!

The bigger answer includes much more…Girl Scouts that participate develop five key skills that are essential to leadership, success, and life! They learn to work as a team to accomplish common goals and solve problems, all while building the confidence they need to shine! And, of course, they have a lot of fun along the way.

Before we take a look at the rewards the girls have an opportunity to earn, let’s talk a minute about what the parents get out of this. Her Troops will earn proceeds, that they can use to pay for supplies, uniforms, events, you name it – which means less money coming out of the parent’s pocket. Girls get to fund their own adventures – and that is pretty neat.

The Service Units can also earn proceeds! They use these funds for things like: events, volunteer appreciation, troop support, ceremonies, you name it. Just by participating, girls can help them earn more funds.

Let’s take a closer look at how those troop proceeds can help fund your adventure!

Let’s say the troop meets and they set a goal to earn enough proceeds to attend a really cool space sleepover that is $25.00 each with 10 girls in the troop for a total of $250.00 needed.

In this scenario, the Girl Scouts want to set their goal at • 40 nut and chocolate items• 3 Magazine items

These 10 girls all hit their goal – for a total of $390 in Troop Proceeds! More then enough for the sleepover. What could your troop do with that kind of money?

We know that every year Girl Scouts all over the country use their earnings to do amazing things in their communities and beyond. From helping animal shelters and feeding the homeless to raising awareness about bullying. Girl Scouts CAN and WILL do anything they put their minds to!

Let’s take a closer look at the Girl Rewards.

The Rewards the girls can earn, are featured on the back of the nut order card. The top portion of the card shows the rewards that can be earned by selling Magazines, followed by the Nuts/Chocolate section below. On the right, are the additional patches can be earned by sending emails and collecting donations.

• All rewards are cumulative – so if they sell 100 items in the Nut/Candy section – they earn all the prizes leading up to it.

• Girls can choose the Reward or Dakota Dough at each level where it’s available. And if they pick Dakota Dough over the prize, they will still get the patch.

• Using this reward card can be helpful as girls set their goals for the upcoming sale. Have them circle the items they want to earn!

So let’s check out some of the fun, new things we have for girls.

On the order card, you noticed the Bravely Be You patch girls can earn by sending 15 emails. Well - NEW this year is how the girls will receive the Bravely Be You Patch! Once a girl sends 15 emails, we will send the patch in the mail directly to her!

The tree patch will come in the mail on a postcard with a drawing of the other 2 patches so she can see how they fit together once she earns them!The swimming sloth is earned by selling 3 or more mags and the hanging sloth is earned by selling 10 or more nut/choc items – those will be delivered with all the rewards at the end of the program.

But we’ve got a couple more new patches to talk about:

This is very exciting because – we’ve offered a personalized patch before (remember the personalized deer last year?) but this year girls can make it look like just like them!• Girl can personalize it with her name, nickname, or troop number• There is a selection between two patch backgrounds• Personalized patches ship directly to girls once they earn it!

Earned by:• Sending 15+ Emails• Selling 2+ Magazines• 35+ Nut/Chocolate items

AND….BRAND NEW! Now the Troop Volunteers can earn this patch too!This patch with be sent directly to them once the troop achieves $1,500 in total Troop sales. So don’t forget to get online and create your own Avatar!

This is something we are SUPER excited about! As we try to encourage girls to participate in the Fall Program to build skills to help them through the Cookie Program we now offer a patch for participating in BOTH programs.

As a Girl Scout member, girls work to create change and to become dynamic leaders using the 5 skills. When girls participate in BOTH the Fall and Cookie Program, they can earn this crossover patch to proudly display their actions in making a difference!

To earn this patch girls will:• Send 20+ emails and create their avatar - In the 2020 Fall Product Program:• In the upcoming 2021 Cookie Program: - Sell 250+ packages of cookies

** Girls that complete the Fall requirements will get an email reminder during the Cookie Program so they don’t forget about this patch!**

This year we have a whole new line-up of nuts, chocolates and magazines. We would like to introduce you to our new partners in the Fall Product Program; Trophy Nut Company and M2 Media.

So let’s see some of the yummy NEW treats!

On the Girl Order Card and in the Volunteer Manual, you can view all 15 delicious nut, chocolate, and candy products. The prices range from $6 - $10. And we have two fun tins; our Holiday Snowman Tin with peppermint Bark Rounds and our ever favorite Girl Scout Tin with the Milk Chocolate - Mint Trefoils.

Yes – You heard me right - Mint Trefoils! You will see some of your favorites with a new twist or name, because of the change in companies. Did you love those Peanut Butter Bears? Now they are Monkeys! Along with some fun new products that we’ve never had before, enter Honey BBQ Mix. Yum!

Girls will have the opportunity to learn about the new products and names when they receive the Girl Activity Guide in the mail, and complete the product guessing game activity!

Our next product the girl have the opportunity to sell are the Magazines.

Magazines are back with over 400 titles - customers can purchase or renew their favorites.There are print and digital bundles available, along with tons of great choices for kids.This product is only available online.

The last product we want to talk about is one of our favorites!

We all know our Girl Scouts LOVE to give back to their communities and this product does just that.Customers can give the gift of snacks to local military organizations from around our Council. Everything stays local!

• Girl Scouts who collect six donations in $6 increments earn the Care to Share Patch! • All donations collected should be entered into the M2 online system and turned in to your

Troop Fall Product Coordinator in order to earn the patch.• This option is great if a customer can’t use or eat the products, but still wants to support

your Girl Scout. As the saying goes – “if you can’t eat’em, treat’em!”• Not only do we get to show our military appreciation for all they do, Troops earn $.75

in proceeds per item and girls still earn credit towards rewards. Everyone benefits from this awesome program!

Last year Girl Scouts-Dakota Horizons collected 1,032 nut products for our Military.

So how do we spread the word about these fantastic products? Let’s talk about how to participate.

Girls offer treats and magazines to their family and friends in two ways:1. In-person2. Online

In-Person Orders• Girls use the order cards to visit with their family, friends and neighbors (following all CDC

guidelines) to share goals, practice the 5 skills and take customer orders. • All money should be collected at the time the order is taken and turned into your Troop Fall

Product Coordinator. • If the customers don’t see what they are looking for, there is a wider variety of items

available online to choose from! Hand them your Business Card!

So let’s take a look at how girls participate Online.

The girls will be invited to participate online by receiving a registration email on Sept 21. This email should come from the troop through the M2 system.The new M2 Nut and Magazine site helps girls to sell online in a safe, fun and interactive environment.

• Girls will set up their very own storefront and can send a link to their customers to shop!• In order to create their site, they need to be a registered Girl Scout and have a valid email

address. • They can send the link through email, text, and private, personal Facebook pages.

Why do we encourage girls to participate online? • There are a lot of interactive things for girls to do on their site.• Orders can ship directly to customers so they get them faster. • Or customers, like grandma, can choose to have their products hand-delivered by their

favorite Girl Scout!• Being online is a safe way to participate and you can offer contactless delivery• Customers can pay with their credit cards – you don’t have to deal with any money!• And there is a wider variety of items available for customers to choose from

A few reminders -This is a friends and family sale, no selling in Public facing sites. We want to keep the girls safe!

Also only registered members will receive the registration email. We upload all registered girls into the system and continue to do so weekly throughout the sale.

• Girls can even record their voice for their avatar!

Girl’s Campaign Headquarters:This is where you will find the navigation tools for all aspects of the program

• Girls can share their online storefront link with family and friends by sending emails or sharing on personal social media

• Did You Know? 27% of online sales come from social media• This is where they can earn their Instant Reward Patch we talked about. Remember

the Bravely Be You Tree Patch? Once 15 emails are sent, GSDH will mail her very first patch.

• New – there is an option to include last name so friends and family know who is sending the email

• Girls also have business cards preprinted with their storefront code• Take a picture of the business card and text it family and friends. OR • Print some off and hand to family and friends for later ordering!

Now girls created their own Avatar, set up their store front. Now it’s time for some fun!

New this year – is an Avatar’s Room!The more actions you complete (uploading a photo), the more virtual rewards you can earn for your avatar. Come back to hang out in your room and earn more rewards as many times as you want!DYK: Girls tend to revisit this room an average of 4 times during the program!

Girls can view virtual rewards and see all the avatars from your whole troop!

So be sure to upload a picture and send those emails to earn lots of virtual awards!

Ok – so the girls have everything ready to get their business rolling. Won’t their customers be impressed when they get a customized email with their picture, a fun avatar and can hear their voice?

Here’s what the email looks like to the customers

There are 2 stores for the customers to choose from – they can head over to the nuts / chocolates site or check out the magazines all from this email.

So whether they go to Nuts/Chocolate site or the Magazine site, they will get to see the Avatar and hear the recorded message.

Nuts / Chocolate Site:• The first things customers do is choose how they want to receive their snacks. Do they want

them hand delivered or shipped directly to them?• If they choose hand delivered – they will be taken to all the products featured on your Order

Card• If they choose shipped – they will be taken to the full Trophy Nut site and be able to choose

from many more items!

All orders are paid for online!

Once the girls start taking orders, they will sometimes get questions from their customers.When is my order shipping? Where is it? Did it ship? Was I charged for my order?

So now you have the overview of what the Fall Product Program consists of, how girls can be engage and participate, along with the benefits for all. You’re probably asking – what’s my next step?

First thing is to• Watch for a communication from your Service Unit Fall Program Manager for training dates

and picking up your sales materials. The SU Training will consist of how to actually manage the sale and will take a closer look at things like money management and using the new M2 system.

• After you attend the Service Unit training and have received your materials, host your parent night to let them know about the program, set goals and see how your troop wishes to participate.

• Leaders will receive a registration email starting Sept 8 and can log into the M2 system to design their very own avatar!

• And most important, and new this year, is to create your Girls Launch Email in the M2 system. This email will automatically send to the girls in your troop on Sept 21 so they can get started on opening day, because this s the email gives them access to the system. If a troop leader doesn’t create a girl launch email, the system will automatically send them one on the following day, September 22nd.
