KIRSTY MCGREGOR, CHAIRMAN:SO WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Founder of The Corporate Finance Network, presenter and consultant advisor to firms, will lead sessions on her vision for the future of the network, including demonstration of draft website concept and update on the marketing of the brand.

ROBERT WILLIAMS, CORPORATE FINANCIER: WATCHING OUT FOR THE PITFALLS…AND GETTING THE DEAL DONE!

Here is a quote about Robert Williams BA (Hons) ACA CF MBA EWI, from the senior corporate finance partner of a leading firm of corporate lawyers in the North West, recommended by the Legal 500.

“Whilst Robert is obviously a technical corporate finance specialist and chartered accountant, he brings to a deal an appropriate toughness, creativity and certain flair which often makes the deal happen, where a more conventional approach would fail.”

So what is it that makes deals fall over? And what are the tips Robert can share with us to ensure we get more transactions to completion?

JO EDWARDS, MARKETING SPECIALIST: HOW TO RUN AMAZINGLY SUCCESSFUL EVENTS

As a specialist marketing company to the accountancy profession, JE Consulting are in tune with the needs of this sector, and therefore can provide the necessary expertise to promote specialist accountancy services to SME business owners and their professional contacts. So how does Jo recommend you stand out from the crowd?

TIM DAFFURN, BUSINESS OWNER: LESSONS TO BE LEARNT FROM RACING, BLIND DATE & AN MBI

Tim Daffurn has been an audit partner in a regional firm of chartered accountants, and has also worked at a senior level at two ‘Group A’ firms.

However Tim is no ordinary chartered accountant. He is a former racing driver, has competed for Great Britain in carriage riding, and has appeared as a contestant on Blind Date! So it was no surprise at all to Kirsty, when he asked her to advise on his MBI of a pallet-making business in 2002. After a seemingly never-ending and tumultuous deal process, the acquisition finally completed in early 2005!

Since completion, there have been some challenges and some successes. So, needless to say, Tim can now provide a huge amount of advice to any prospective MBI candidates. He exclusively recounts his story and explains the lessons he has learnt along the way.

JEREMY BENNETT, CORPORATE LAWYER: LAWYERS AREN’T THAT BAD, YOU KNOW!

Jez isn’t your typical lawyer. But he freely admitted that the ‘legal slot’ on most seminars is the boring part, so he promised to make his bit interesting! Besides acting for clients in corporate finance transactions, Jez also acts for many asset based lenders, helping them exit from insolvent or fraudulent cases. So perhaps some stories from Jez will be pretty interesting after all!

ANDY GRANTHAM, ASSET BASED LENDER: ANNOUNCING THE LAUNCH OF BARCLAYS COMMERCIAL FINANCE

Barclays Commercial Finance sit within the Asset and Sales Finance division of Barclays Bank Plc.

They specialise in generating business from the external, introducer-led market, by providing innovative asset-based lending solutions that use a business’s assets to structure cost effective funding packages.

Their mix of products includes Invoice Discounting, Stock Finance, Plant & Machinery Finance, Short-term Property Finance and Cashflow Strips, allowing your clients access to a rich source of funding for both transactional, working capital and growth requirements.

These facilities can be used as a dynamic funding tool for MBOs/MBIs/BIMBOs and/or acquisitions, which can negate the need to give away “expensive” equity and allow the management to retain control of the business.

They bring experienced industry professionals to structure transactions and as part of the respected Barclays Bank brand, provide access to a huge range of other Barclays group products as required.

Andy, Regional Director, talks about the continual development of the Asset Based Lending market, and tells us what is going to make them different to the myriad of other debtor finance companies out there.
