Official Rules:1. NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. To enter, teachers/parents or legal

guardians and their student(s) must fill out appropriate portions of the official entry form completely. Teachers/parents or legal guardians may e-mail their student(s) entry to [email protected] or mail it to: Scholastic News Edition 3, Kid Spotlight Contest, P.O. Box 712, New York, NY 10012. All entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. EST on February 3, 2017. Scholastic Inc. (“Sponsor”) assumes no responsibility for lost, misdirected, damaged, stolen, postage-due, illegible, late entries or mail, or any computer, transmission or other technical difficulties. All entries (and rights in the winning entries) become the property of Sponsor and will not be returned.

2. Contest is open to students in grade 3 in a public, accredited private or home school in compliance with the laws and regulations of its state, and which school is in the 50 U.S. or D.C., as of February 3, 2017, except the immediate families of employees of Sponsor, its respective affiliates, subsidiaries, and their respective advertising, promotion, and fulfillment agencies (collectively, “Related Entities”). The contest entry may only be submitted by a teacher/parent or legal guardian. Contest is void where prohibited or restricted by law. Only one entry per student (e.g. a student cannot enter as an individual and as part of a group or class).

3. Entries will be judged on the answer to the question “How did the individual, group, or class make a difference?” and based on the equally weighted criteria of originality, effort, impact, and how well the response followed the instructions. Judging will be completed on or about March 7, 2017, by Sponsor, whose decisions on all matters relating to this contest are final. Sponsor reserves the right not to award all prizes if an insufficient number of qualified entries is received.

4. Projects submitted for consideration in the contest must have taken place at least in part in 2016-2017.

5. Entrants’ parent/legal guardians may be required to sign and return an affidavit of eligibility and liability/publicity release. If required, this release must be received with the entry form for the entry to be valid.

6. The winning class/large group (five or more students) will receive a $100 Visa gift card and a classroom mini library of Scholastic books selected by the Sponsor (approximate retail value of $200). The winning individual student or small group will receive a $50 Visa gift card and a collection of eight Scholastic books about inspirational people (approximate retail value of $100), chosen by the Sponsor. Total approximate retail value of prizes is: $450.

7. No prize substitution except by Sponsor in case of unavailability, in which case a prize of equal or greater value will be awarded. By accepting the prize, the winners agree that Sponsor, Related Entities, all prize providers, and their respective officers, directors, agents, and employees will have no liability or responsibility for any injuries, losses, or damages of any kind resulting from participation in the contest and/or the acceptance, possession, or use of any prize, and they will be held harmless against any claims of liability arising directly or indirectly from participation in the content and/or the prize
