Literacy• Guided Reading – daily, in classes• The framework - taught in units covering all text types
including ICT texts and all writing types.• Each unit follows the same pattern: reading →
discussion → writing • Ruth Miskin – continues in Year 4 , smaller groups,
extra support. • Spelling – available on the website - test on Tuesday.• Big Writing – VCOP – building on last year – alternate
Fridays – double session - Year group themes/whole school themes/ assessed pieces

Maths is getting BIG with B.E.A.M. (BE A Mathematician)
• Mental Maths – whole class daily sessions
• Numbers and their properties - place value, counting, ordering, estimating, rounding, fractions, decimals
• Calculations - addition, subtraction, multiplication, division
• Measures - length, mass, capacity, area, time
• Shape and space - 2D/3D shapes, symmetry, angles, co-ordinates, compass points
• Handling data - Carroll diagrams, Venn diagrams, pictograms, bar charts
We aim to put all maths into context.

Homework
• Please encourage your children to take responsibility for managing their homework.
• All work should be discussed with and signed by a parent or carer.
• Maths homework is given on a Monday and marked together the following Monday.
• Spellings are given on a Tuesday. Books go home each day. Spelling test on the following Tuesday.
• Talk Homework is given on alternate Fridays.
• Reading books go home daily.
