Aaron Tippin

Aaron Tippin is a force of nature, a man whose passion for music fuels an array of other vigorous enthusiasms. Apart from writing

and recording songs and wowing crowds with his live appearances, Tippin is also a pilot, farmer, winemaker, outdoorsman, competi-tive bodybuilder and devoted family man. He even runs his own

record label. It’s no surprise then that so many in the music indus-try regard this tireless South Carolinian as the “Hillbilly Hercules.”Fresh from unveiling He Believed, his exclusive album for Cracker Barrel Old Country Stores, Tippin has now released a second collection of songs, one that salutes America’s truck drivers. It’s called In Overdrive and features the trucker classics “East Bound And Down,” “Drivin’ My Life Away,” “Prisoner Of The High-

way,” “Girl On The Billboard,” “Movin’ On,” “The White Night,” “Roll On,” “Truck Drivin’ Man,” “Long White Line,” “Drivin’ Fool” and “Danger Dave.”

In Overdrive was sparked by Tippin’s concern that country music had turned its back on its highway heroes. “Seems like somewhere along the line trucking music got shoved off the country music plate,” he observes. “I don’t understand exactly why. The trucks are still out there. And they’re busier than ever keeping America roll-ing. I know the folks who work and live in the trucking world still love this music—and so do most fans of real country music. This album launches my crusade to bring the music back.”Tippin has crusaded for the working man and woman since he ripped country music wide open in 1990 with his uncompromising “You’ve Got To Stand For Something.” On the strength of that remarkable song, comedian Bob Hope invited Tippin to appear with him when he toured the Mideast to entertain the troops of Desert Storm. Tippin has been a favorite of—and a standby for—America’s fighting forces ever since. In the years that followed, Tippin’s voice continued to ring loud and clear with such hits as “I Wouldn’t Have It Any Other Way,” “There Ain’t Nothin’ Wrong With The Radio’ (an affectionate nod to the kind of automo-tive clunker most of us have had to rely on at one time or another), “My Blue Angel,” “Working Man’s Ph. D.,” “The Call Of The Wild,” “I Got It Honest,” “That’s As Close As I’ll Get To Loving You,” “For You I Will,” “Kiss This” (a cheeky No. 1 song he co-wrote with his wife and partner-in-everything, Thea).

Tippin became immediately enraged by the sneak attacks of 9/11 and quickly remembered a song he’d recently penned, (his proudly defiant), “Where The Stars And Stripes And The Eagle Fly.” He instantly booked studio time and rushed to Nashville and tracked this emotional anthem that reminds countless people as to what it means to be an American. Tippin has since journeyed to Iraq and Afghanistan to sing for the troops. These missions, in turn, have earned him guest spots on such shows as Larry King Live and Hannity & Colmes to speak on the military’s behalf.Tippin’s honest lyrics and direct, impassioned vocals have built a large and devoted audience. Five of his albums are certi-fied “Gold”—Call Of The Wild, You’ve Got To Stand For Something, Lookin’ Back At Myself, Tool Box and People Like Us. A sixth CD—Read Between The Lines—stands at the “Platinum” level. In keeping with his take-charge attitude, Tippin established NIPPIT Records in 2005. In 2008, the label partnered with Cracker Barrel for the release of He Believed.Tippin’s retreat is a 500 -acre farm in middle Tennessee, where he labors, relaxes and revels in the outdoors with wife and musical collaborator Thea and their two sons, Tom and Ted. It’s also the home base for his hangar (complete with four working aircrafts), runway, recording studio and winery.During the months ahead, Tippin and his band will be roaring along America’s vast highway grid, meeting truckers and singing their praises to a new generation of country music fans. In Overdrive will be available in stores and online in October 2008.

Donnie IrisThe Story (from the web site)Donnie learned how to sing from his Mother and then from Tony Bennett and Marvin Gaye. In 1970, as a member of the Jaggerz, Donnie earned a gold record for writing and singing the No. 1 song “The Rapper.”In or around 1978, Donnie was asked to join “Wild Cherry” (“Play That Funky Music, White Boy”) in the group’s waning days. Donnie met Mark Avsec, his future collaborator and partner, in “Wild Cherry” and the two of them began discussing plans for a recording project. Oddly enough, Mark’s first love (at the age of 15) was a huge fan of “The Rapper” and Mark thought that was some-how profound. Then again, Mark sees profundity in a good many things.Mark and Donnie began writing some songs in Donnie’s basement. Eventu-ally, they wanted to lay down some tracks at Jeree’s Recording Studio. Donnie knew of a terrific bass player named Albritton McClain; he also heard about Marty Lee Hoenes, a hot young guitar player who was playing in a band called “The Pulse.” Mark invited drummer Kevin Valentine to the same session. Mark brought some songs and sketches of songs, a couple of keyboards, and was ea-ger to produce his first record. Pleasantries all around, within a couple of hours the boys were cutting the tracks for “Agnes,” “Ah! Leah!” and the other record-

ings that would comprise the “Back On The Streets” album. The project revolved around Donnie’s voice and Mark’s song and production ideas – as well as the ferocious playing of Marty, Al, and Kevin. Mark and Donnie decided the record would be Donnie’s solo album, though they wanted the band to have an identity as well, e.g., Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. But what to call the band? At the time, Mark lived in Cleveland, Ohio and Donnie lived in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania (that is still the case). All of the boys were constantly on the Ohio and Pennsylvania turnpikes (particularly Mark) going to and from Jeree’s Recording Studio in New Brighton, Pennsylvania. Donnie suggested that the group could be called “The Turnpike Cruisers,” based on the 1958 Mercury Turnpike Cruiser. The “Turnpike Cruisers” was promptly shortened to “Cruisers” and “Donnie Iris and the Cruisers” was born. The song “Ah! Leah!” was passed by every major label. However, in 1980 you could still break new music on the radio. WMMS in Cleveland added the record. WDVE in Pittsburgh added the record. WBCN in Boston added the record. The phones exploded. The single and album were issued by Midwest Records, out of Cleve-land, Ohio, and both began to chart on the Cashbox and Billboard charts. Eventually, Chrysalis and MCA/Universal made overtures to pick up the music – MCA/Universal prevailed. “Ah! Leah!” peaked at or around #29 in Billboard’s Singles Chart, achieved much critical acclaim, and was one of the most played songs in the Album Oriented Radio format in 1980. Donnie was christened by a Toronto reviewer after a blazing show at “The El Mocambo” in Toronto as the “new king of cool.” Hence, the follow-up album was called “King Cool.” The “King Cool” album was recorded in the “stacked vocals” style that Mark and Donnie pioneered on the first album. It yielded the songs “Love Is Like A Rock” and “That’s The Way Love Ought To Be.” It also yielded the song “My Girl,” which reached at or near #20 on Billboard’s Singles Chart. In 1997, after a fairly long hiatus, the original band re-congregated at Jeree’s Recording Studio to record the “Poletown” album, which many consider to be the finest Donnie Iris and the Cruisers album. This album depart-ed in a major way from Mark’s stacked production style, but the playing is typically ferocious (Albritton, Kevin, and Marty are absolutely brilliant), and the songs are lyrically and musically dark and brooding. In the late 1990s, with Tommy Rich behind the skins and Paul Goll installed on bass, the band recorded one of the many shows that they then regularly played at the “Nick’s Fat City” club in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The live album culled from this show is a snapshot of the band during the late 1990s. In 1999, “Together Alone” was released – a very atypical Donnie record. In August 2004, “Donnie Iris and the Cruisers” celebrated their 25th anniversary before 4,000 screaming fans at the Chevy Amphitheater in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. All three drummers – Kevin Valentine, Tommy Rich, and Brice Foster were on the stage.

Specific Ride information:

Breakdown Crews 434-865-5602Breakdown Crews are NOT available after

We arrive at Our Destinations. “Road Captains” will be placed at intervals within the procession. Road Captains will be designated by their vests. Doing this allows for guided communication between the front, middle and back of the ride. The ride will start out at 35 mph and stay at that pace until the entire group is going 35 MPH. Once we ALL achieve 35 MPH we will increase the speed accordingly. This is NOT a race, THIS IS A MEMORIAL RIDE. We are all going to the same place. We do this in remembrance of the events of September 11, 2001. We are paying tribute to fallen HEROES and to all those who lost their lives that tragic day, while raising money to support First Responders. Escorting officers and those from the local communities are here to assist us in moving safely to our next stop. Please do what they ask; the foundation will not accept ANY disrepect to any officer.

All participants MUST wear helmets throughout the entire ride, regardless of helmet laws in individual states. This is a MEMORIAL RIDE. Actions such as “burn outs”, performing stunts, etc. is considered disrespectful and dangerous and will not be tolerated. This is especially true as we pass the actual 9/11 sites – our presence serves as a reminder to the general public on the street. We want them to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice – not the dangerous dumb biker doing a burnout! If at anytime your actions are unsafe you will be pulled from the ride and banned from future events, without any refund.

The Pumper Crews will be assisting us as we fuel; doing this moves the group much faster. Once fueled, PLEASE follow their directions.

As the ride moves down the roadways, cars may become present. We are trying to keep the group tight; please aviod creating a space in which cars can enter the procession. If thishappens, please avoid any encounter with the vehicle(s) as they might be exiting the roadway. When the vehicle exits or moves out of the lane, tighten any gaps which might have occured. Our number one goal is to arrive SAFELY at our destinations.

If you break down: Check to see if it is clear to move out of the group. DO NOT JUST PULL OUT LOOK FIRST DO NOT CUT ACROSS TRAFFIC. If we are in the LEFT lane move over to the LEFT shoulder If we are in the RIGHT lane move over to the RIGHT shoulder

AS ALWAYS RIDE AT YOUR OWN RISKPage 6

VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION about getting to

Arlington VA.

Once we enter Virginia we must COMPRESS.

This has to be our tightest formation.

Once through Leesburg and on the Greenway we have to

compress to be less than 10 miles. We have to be this tight to make our

crossing into the airport lanes. If we are not successful they will break the ride to free

up the congestion at the airport.
