Wembley’s 60 th Birthday Celebration/ Senior Art Show Tomorrow we will celebrate Wembley Primary School’s sixty years of providing outstanding learning opportunities for students. The celebrations will be held in conjunction with the Senior Art Show, which will open on Friday 26 October. The Wembley Community Group have organized an afternoon of fun with rides, activities, games, stalls and food for the school community to join in. Friday will be a Free Dress for Students (no coin donation necessary) and students are asked to make an effort to come dressed for the 60s theme. Friday Assembly- Friday Morning This week Friday assembly will be held at 9am and the main focus will be the acknowledgement and celebration of Wembley’s 60 th Birthday. Students will arrive at school and proceed directly to their classrooms to drop of their bags and get their hats before proceeding to their class assembly area on the 9am bell. The Student Learning and Achievement Awards for this week will be presented and also the ICAS English High Distinction, Distinction, Merit and Credit awards will be presented to recipients. Students who received a participation award will have their certificates presented in their classrooms during the day. From the Principals Student Clothing Please ensure that your child’s clothing is clearly labelled with their name and class. This will ensure that, if they accidentally leave a jacket or hat in the playground, it will be returned to them and not end up in the lost property cupboard. Parents are also asked to regularly check the clothing that is brought home, to ensure it does in fact belong to your child and has not been mistakenly taken.

West Gate Tunnel Project We have been informed by the West Gate Tunnel Project personnel that the planned temporary closure of the Muir Street/Fogarty Avenue pedestrian overpass has been postponed until further notice. We will inform you of any temporary closure once we have an update. At this assembly we will have a Birthday Cake to celebrate the 60th Birthday and we will sing and cheer Wembley on for another sixty years. Thank you to the Plarre family and Fergusson Plarre for donating the cake, which will be shared amongst the students and staff, after the assembly. Please note that this morning assembly will replace the Friday afternoon assembly for this week only. 2019 Class Development Process Thank you to the parents who have emailed with student placement requests for their child’s 2019 class. All of the information received is strictly confidential and will inform the allocation of students to their new 2019 class. Teachers will begin working on this process in the coming weeks. Parents are reminded that the closing date to email requests to Annmaree Jones is Wednesday 31 October. It will not be possible to accept any requests after this date as the allocation process will have commenced. As is always the case, requests for specific teachers cannot be accepted. Rotary Club - Recognition of Teachers On Monday 22 October, Sally Tonge (Intervention Leader and Teacher), was acknowledged at a Rotary Event, celebrating teachers. She received her recognition award from the Mayor of Hobsons Bay (Cr Angela Altair) for her work in supporting students from Years 1-6 through our Response to Intervention program, and for her commitment to Literacy learning, in participating in the Bastow Literacy Course. Congratulations Sally and thank you on behalf of the students of Wembley Primary School.

Planning for 2019 School Year As we begin the planning process for next year and organizing classes we would appreciate parents notifying school if your child will not be returning to Wembley Primary School in 2019, as soon as possible. The Leadership Team are currently working through class structure, recruitment processes and location of classes. If there is any specific information relating to your child that you feel may impact on class placement for 2019 please email or telephone Annmaree Jones by the end of October. Canteen Closed-Monday 5 November 2018 Parents are advised that the canteen will be closed on Monday 5 November (the day before the Melbourne Cup Day holiday). All children will need to bring their lunch, snacks and drinks form home on that day. Pupil Free Days 2019 Each year schools are allocated a number of pupil free days (when student instruction does not occur) for professional development, school planning and administration, curriculum development, and student assessment and reporting. School Council has approved the following days as Pupil Free Days for 2019:

Bookclub Time! It's bookclub time again. We will be having 2 catalogues this term because we know you love to buy books for Christmas gifts. The issue that is coming out this week is due back on Friday 26th October. If you are paying by cash and not via the online LOOP system, please clearly label the envelop with: Childs Name Grade The books being ordered and quantity Total money included. Chess Club is Back! Chess Club is back at Wembley for all of those budding chess players. For this term only Chess Club will run at lunchtime (12.30-1.35) in the conference room. For Term 4 we are hoping that Chess Club will resume on Tuesday afternoons (3.30-4.30) as in the past. Our new tutor’s name is Scott. Enrolment forms are available from the office or can be found in the newsletter.

Kingsville Carols-Thursday 6 December 2018 Wembley is participating in the Kingsville Carols this year, which is being held on Thursday, 6 December in the evening. More details to come soon in regards to the time and location of the event. The Christmas Choir has now had two rehearsals this week, and we're sounding great! We will be singing two songs: Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree and All Around the World. Choir members are able to access the songs on the WPS Music Blog with this link: http://misstan.global2.vic.edu.au/category/christmas-choir-2018/ Gina Tan Music Teacher ICAS English Test Last term 106 Wembley students from Years 3-6 participated in the English International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS)-English. We are pleased to announce that out of those 106 students, 2 received a High Distinction, 12 received a Distinction, 34 received a credit and 14 students received a Merit. These students will receive their certificates at our morning assembly this Friday 26th October. Below is a table displaying the students who will receive these certificates. All other students will be presented with a Participation Certificate in their classrooms on Friday. We congratulate all students who participated in this exciting, yet challenging event and who continue to work hard, both at home and at school to achieve success at the highest level. Well Done!
