Committee Goals

• Fill Council Committees with full Chapter representation.

• Committees begin using ReadyTalk Conference Calls regularly to catalyze business.

• Lack of activity leads to complacency which leads to failed committee. Do something, even if it is wrong.

Council Meetings

• Streamline the process• Everyone gets a say, but if the conversation isn’t leading to

business action, it is sideways energy (busyness without productivity).

• Get all business on agenda ahead of time, come prepared. Be direct - as if you were speaking to a legislative committee.

• Should be fun, not stressful. Maintain a healthy atmosphere. You can disagree without being negative or sarcastic. Learn diplomacy (read “Getting To Yes” by Roger Fisher)

• Present new ideas, but development should occur within committee.

• Schedule fun or informative speakers at the end of each meeting.

1) Invigorate Leadership

• Engaging in advocacy/activities with a commonality. Separating people from issues and discovering common ground.

• Documenting goals and roles so that there is clarity in who, what, where, why and how to do the job. (see Committee Guide on wvtu.org leader page)

• Recognizing progress and efforts.• How can we add more incentives? More value? With added

financial growth - added incentives/financial assistance to attend leadership attendance at SE Rally.

• FUN-Raisers: F3T, Trout Festival. Work to eliminate stress from Council meetings.

• The duality of the above bullet: Allowing leaders to perform their necessary work without micromanagement or unnecessary oversight.

• Discovering what motivates our people to lead and farming those concepts. Recognizing your role and your unique abilities and communicating what you can offer to everyone.

• Determine interest in an unofficial Council meeting for leadership growth/idea farming/vision casting.

• Market the WVTU Accomplishments.• Stream Explorers: Only 7 members in

’12?!!! Unacceptable. Develop a Stream Explorers “Display”, banners, brochures. BHAG: 7 in 2012 to 150 in 2013 to 600 in 2014...

• Chapter engagement of new cities/watershed organizations?

• Chapter endorsed ‘fly tying gatherings’ or ‘open houses’ in new areas - but without staking permanent flags into the new territories.

• Engaging chapter members from far away areas with the question - would you be interested in a new chapter?

• Financial assistance for new chapters.• Martinsburg: Discuss with Winchester, VA Chapter. Send letters to WV

panhandle members? • Elkins should be a priority area. • Save Upper Guyandotte Chapter• Building up the Chapters we have: Grow membership in Northern

Panhandle Chapter. Engage KYOVA Chapter. Identify new leaders in all chapters. Purge toxicity.
