To say there has been a lot happening would be a complete understatement. We have had sporting teams represent our school in basketball, netball and rugby league, students have travelled to Lake Cargelligo to play chess, our show team have been at the Royal Easter Show showing their prized Angora goats and we have had a number of students developing their leadership skills through a NRL coaching experience. WWHS continues to provide a broad range of volunteering and extra- curricular activities for our students and we continually excel for a small school of just over three hundred students. The Department of Education have recognised some of the great experiences provided to our students from our school and have decided to use our town and schools to advertise the advantages of teaching in a rural location like West Wyalong. The film crew arrived last Saturday and have been interviewing some student leaders and some of our staff. The film crew are loving their time and have enjoyed meeting a variety of people within our school community. I look forward to seeing the final product in several months’ time after they complete the editing. As this is our last newsletter for the term, I hope everyone had a nice Easter break and they enjoy the upcoming two weeks of school holidays. During the last week of the school holidays our traditional involvement in the ANZAC day ceremony will take place. I encourage all students to participate in the march on Wednesday the 25 th April. Please assemble at the front of Thom, Dick and Harry’s before 10.30am with the march commencing at 10.45am.Check the local paper for the confirmation of details and we will publish this on Facebook. Friday was the RAS State Final for the Angora goat and Mohair Young Judges Competition. Competitors have to assess and place 4 Mohair fleeces and 4 Angora goats. After which competitors are required to give an oral presentation as to their reasons for their choices.

Molly was Reserve State Champion for the third time, with Sarah placing 4th and Brianna Worner 5th.

Molly once again has qualified to compete in the National Angora Goat and Mohair Young Judges Final in Adelaide in September this year.

We would like to thank Mr Andrew Kelleher who drove the bus, Mr Michael Mrowka who helped with gear organisation and driving and Ms Irene Norton who was our Chef. All gave up their valuable time to assist us with this excursion. Also thanks to Miss Statham for all her organisation and effort in getting us to this great event!

We are all looking forward to our trek to Bendigo in July for the Australian Sheep and Wool Show where we will catch up with the Victorian Studs and Schools.

GIRLS OPENS NETBALL On Thursday 29th March the opens girls’ netball team travelled to Orange to compete in the first round of the CHS competition. After a very early start to the morning and a pit stop for food, we finally made it to Orange for our first game. The girls come up against Henry Lawson in their first game where they quickly woke up and established an early lead. Henry Lawson worked well in attack however were unable to score on a few occasions due to great defence from our girls. The girls managed to maintain a healthy lead with the final score at 20-3.

The second game saw them come up against a very strong Cowra outfit. The Cowra girls came out firing however, our girls managed to keep the score even for the first quarter. Unfortunately, Cowra were much taller in the centre court making it very difficult for our girls to get the ball down the court. They managed to turn over a few of our centres and quickly got a small lead. In the end after a strong fight from our girls, Cowra maintained the early lead to come out victorious 17-8.

Our third game for the day was to be against Orange 3. These girls were a very young team without a great deal of experience. However, what they lacked in experience they definitely made up for in speed. They had our girls quite pink in the cheeks by the end of the second quarter but with experience on our side, we managed to take the win, 18-3.

This final win put us at second in Pool C. we then had to play a crossover game against Forbes High. Our girls came out firing, ready to prove themselves after the loss against Cowra. This game was magic to watch. The girls moved to ball brilliantly down the court and intercepted the ball on numerous

occasions. The rebounding on both attack and defence was astounding and the centre court worked tirelessly. They girls managed to win this game convincingly with the final score being 54-29.

At the completion of the rounds, they held Western Region trials with five of our team trialling for a position. This took place outside where the girls were put into their three nominated positions. The process was quite gruelling with them girls only getting a brief break between games and the temperature above 30 degrees. They all trialled well and Paige Hanrahan was selected to go on to the next round of trials the following week.

A big thank you to Mal Davies for driving the bus, Miss Astley and Mrs Milsom for coaching and Mrs Duncan for helping with selections.
