West Central Ag Services (WCAS) is a local, producer-owned full service

cooperative based in Ulen, MN with locations throughout Northwest Minnesota

(see map on back cover). As a full service cooperative, WCAS assists its

producer-owners with agronomy, grain, merchandising, insurance, and

financing needs. WCAS has four grain facilities strategically placed throughout

its trade area; two shuttle loader operations, and two satellite receiving stations.

Agronomy operations are based out of four hub locations, and five retail centers.

The purpose of this product guide is to help educate the producer-owners of WCAS about the

offerings available to them from WCAS. It is WCAS goal to help producers achieve maximum yield

across all their acres starting with assisting them in choosing the right varieties/hybrids for their

operation. WCAS will develop a customizable plan for each producer that takes into account soil

types, cropping systems, fertility plans, and other variables. To do this we will utilize many tools

including R7 Tool®, FieldReveal™, Climate™, along with other programs that are available.

THE PURPOSE OF THIS SEED GUIDE

FINANCING OPTIONS

WCAS offers multiple financing options for producers to utilize in purchasing the inputs needed for

their operations. These options range from full operating lines of credit to smaller convenience (gap)

loans, as well as distributor based loan programs.

LOCAL CO-OP OWNED & MANAGED

As a locally owned and managed cooperative, WCAS main goal is to help its producers-owners be as

successful as possible. WCAS can help its producers from beginning to end, providing the financing

needed for the operation, to supplying any and all agronomy inputs, helping with the marketing of the

BEST MANAGEMENT PRACTICES � CORN PRODUCTION

1) Select an appropriate hybrid with the correct traits for your soil type, crop rotation,tillage systems, etc.

2) Develop a solid fertility plan (base fertilizer blend, starter fertilizer, side dressplan).- Example: 120-60-50-15S as a base blend, followered by a starter blend of 3 gal. 10-34-0, 2

Corn requires the majority of its nitrogen between V9 and V18, which is why a side dress application of nitrogen and sulfur can be very beneficial.

WCAS offers many different Ag Technology programs, from writing prescriptions for fertilizerapplication and planting, to topography mapping, to yield data analysis, to providing in-season

imagery. To do this WCAS uses multiple tools a few of which are: R7® Tool by WinField,FieldView™ by Climate Corporation, ADMS by GK Technologies, and SMS® by AgLeader.

AG TECHNOLOGY OVERVIEW

R7® Tool by WinField is a program that allows us todevelop management zones based off of satellite imageryand soil types. It also gives us insights into productplacement by utilizing the power of the AnswerPlot®system. This data drives the characterization chart whichhelp with placing the right product on the right acre. R7®Tool also provides us with in-season imagery, and theField Monitoring Tool (FMT). FMT is an easy to useplatform that highlights fields that are trending up or downin vegetative mass index. Utilizing the daily R7 imageryand FMT can help growers prioritize which fields theyneed to be most concerned or interested in.

FieldView™ by Climate Corporation is a program thatmonitors the weather on a field by field basis, provides in-season imagery, can be used for prescription writing, andalso is useful as a tool in nitrogen managementdecisions. Using weather stations around the countryFieldView tracks precipitation and temperatures on a fieldlevel. It will use this information along with data enteredby the grower like type, placement, and amount offertilizer applied to help guide decision making onsidedressing/topdressing corn. The imagery is beneficialin scouting, as pins can be placed and shared betweengrowers and agronomists to mark the spot of somethinginteresting.

Ceres Imaging is a tool that captures NDVI, Thermal,Chlorophyll, and Color infrared layers and usesproprietary algorithms to identify nutrient deficiencies,irrigation issues, water stress areas, insect and diseaseinfestations. Sprinkler heads that apply too much or toolittle water, white mold in edible beans, dry rot inpotatoes, Goss’ wilt in corn are just some of the issuesthat this technology has been used to identify.

We also utilize ADMS and SMS® for analysis of yield data, topography data, and prescriptionwriting. These four programs combined give us the ability to meet most growers wants and

Ceres Imaging is a new program that WCAS started using in 2019. Originally developed for highvalue crops in orchards and under irrigation, Ceres Imaging provides us with high resolutionimagery that is acquired by planes. Utilizing planes allows us to capture this imagery on atimelier basis vs waiting for a satellite to pass by. This also enables us to react to clouds andweather conditions which may block out satellites.

The proprietary camera array thatis used provides multiple layers ofdata including; color infrared,chlorophyll, thermal, and NDVI. Using these layers and exclusivealgorithms Ceres is able to identifywater stressed (over or underwatered) areas under pivots, andalso create a disturbance index indryland situations.

The high resolution imagery also enables us to identify pest populations at a small infestation. These tools have been used to identify hot spots of dry rot in potato, aphids in potato, white moldin edible beans, stand count issues in corn, and many other problems.
