MISSION MILESTONES

Sleepy, Sneezy, Dopey, Grumpy

by David W. Spillman

I recently read an interesting post where people were asked to name the seven dwarfs of Snow White. What they found is that most people could only name one or two! What I found out was that I could not do much better! My list consisted of Sleepy, Sneezy, Dopey, and Grumpy! Most others could only list Dopey and Grumpy! What the individual sharing this information thought was both interest-ing and sad...no one remembered Happy! I know I didn't!

Why? Why is it that most respondents---including me! ---could only remember the more "negative" of the seven dwarfs, but not the "positive" Happy??? I believe it is kind of how we have allowed our culture to train our minds. Many of us are so thought-processed geared to remember the negative emotions that are exhibited toward us than the positive emotions that are reflected into our lives every day! Like a silent ninja, just a glance of disapproval from someone that we do not even know and have never met before changes the course of our day from being a good day to where everything turns sour!

The key is to flesh out the full, abundant life Jesus has purposed to us, as His followers, instead of allowing Satan to accomplish his purpose of robbing us of life. In order to stay positive, we must focus positive! I love Paul's words to our brothers and sisters in Philippi and us..."And now, dear brother, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise" (Philippians 4:8 NLT). FIX your THOUGHTS...THINK about...phrases that describe our focus! A good way to begin to retrain our thinking and our focus is to start a gratitude list. Get a piece of paper and write down everything you are thankful for. Big things, little things, and things in the middle. Add to the list daily, weekly, or whenever God reveals another item of thanksgiving in your life. Put this list somewhere you can see it daily---bathroom mirror, desk drawer at work, in your Bible---and glance through it to begin to shift your mindset and train yourself to live in gratitude!

Let's see...Sneezy, Sleepy, Dopey, Bashful, Grumpy, Doc, Happy...

5 Essential Summer Safety Tips

Avoid sunburns like the plague. According to the Skin Cancer

Foundation, getting one blistering sunburn when you are a kid doubles

your chances of developing melanoma. …

Swim Smart. ...

Stay Away From Stings and Bites. ...

Overheating/dehydration/and heat rashes. ...

DO NOT LEAVE YOUR CHILD OR PET UNATTENDED IN THE

CAR FOR A MINUTE!

The bugs, mosquitos, and gnats are really bad this year due to all the rain. Our pest control expert said to use vanilla on your skin, or you can try Avon’s Skin-so-Soft! There are some spray products that contain

vanilla.

These pesky pests will bite you and cause raises welts, as well as other

possible results.

Stay safe and have a wonderful summer!

If each person (110 people) gave $2.36 more each week, we would have an additional $ 13,499 in 1 year; that is $ 8,699 more than 1 week’s budget and $35 more than our current shortfall. $2.36 per week for 52 weeks totals $ 122.72. Let us be generous as our Lord is generous!
