What have you learned from your audience feedback?

The feedback that we were given throughout the course of making our music video became very useful in helping shape the way the video turned out. We had lots of different types of feedback that helped with different parts of the course. This rely of : The bands name, the logo, fonts, song choice and the video itself. We got many different opinions from different demographics to get a broader take on our work.

One of the first bits of feedback that we went on the hunt for, was the name of the band, since we all had different opinions on what to call the band. To do this we created a table using Microsoft Word and jotted down all the different name suggestions that we had. After doing this we then went around the sixth form common room and started asking people which one they liked best and asked them to tick it on the right side of the table. This helped us decide on our name Cold Liberty since it gained the most votes from the public, as they thought it worked well the most with the alternative rock genre.

Again we did the same sort of feedback with trying to get the song, we put a list of songs down and asked people to tick off the song that they liked the most and thought would fit well with our genre. If the participant didn't know the song that we had on the list, we did give them the option to listen to it to get a fairer opinion. In the end this worked out well and we gained the most votes for The Pretender. Another time we did the same sort of feedback was with our logo fonts. We put all the fonts we liked on a piece of paper and went around asking people which one they liked the most and asked them to tick the one they were a fan with. However we didn't end up going with the majority vote as us as a band didn't think it went well with the genre conventions of the band.

The first time we got feedback for our music video was when we had a screening in front of our class. Everyone was given feedback sheets which they had to fill out, there are three sections on each sheet: the parts you liked, the parts that need improving and the parts you dislike. The majority of our first feedback wasn't too bad, however we were told that we need a lot more shots and that some of the others shots were too long and needed to be cut more in with the beat or else you don't really feel the panic of the situation as well.

We also was told that there isn't as much band performance in it either, this was because we didn't have that many different types of angles for our band performance that we could use. After taking the criticism, we then went out and started to shoot a lot more narrative and performance that we could piece together in our music video to make most fast paced.

After doing more screenings and getting told more things to add to our music video, we eventually ended up filming our performance many times just to get the right angles to use. The feedback was very useful as it helped us realise to add close-ups which made the video seem more fast paces and create a more thrilling effect for the viewer when they are watching it. No one complained about how the video had lots narrative even though it challenges conventions of a normal rock music video, which would just have mainly performance.

After our first screening we changed the video to black/white also since we were told to add some effects to the video. This created a lot of positive feedback as we were told it really fits in well and looks good with the song we were doing and the genre that our band is. We also ended up having 10 drafts since we were constantly changing our music video so make it as perfect as possible. In some drafts you might not notice that much of a difference, this is because there were minor changes, like fixing the lip syncing or adding an extra close-up. We did this mainly because we wanted our video to look fluent and not have any issues when watching it.

Overall I think the feedback from audiences, really helped with shaping how our music video ended, since we got many different types that helped changed minor issues that we might have no noticed ourselves. Also it helped to do screenings, since it was on a bigger screen we got to notice any issues that again we might have not noticed ourselves just looking on the editing screen.
