Outline
• Higher Education in the UK is available at over 130
universities and more than 200 colleges
• You can study in a variety of different ways – from
the traditional 3 or 4 year degree course to a 1 or 2
year foundation degree, to a part time course, or
even flexibly with the Open University
• You could also study abroad – there are universities
in the top 100 in the world in USA, Canada, Japan,
Sweden, Hong Kong, Australia, Germany, France,
China and the Netherlands

Overview
Where to study
• Colleges don’t always offer full degrees – instead you
study foundation degrees or HND’s – although these can
often be topped up to a full bachelors degree by
completing a final year at university
• The student experience will be different – most colleges
have more students doing FE than HE – there will not be
the same extra curricular opportunities at a college
• College HE will almost certainly be less expensive than
studying at a university

Also consider . . .
• Think about the course first and the university second -
for some courses there will mean you only have a few
universities to choose from
• Visit all the universities you’re serious about – check
when the official open days are scheduled , go along and
ask all the questions you can think of
• Discuss your choices with teachers, parents, siblings and
friends – then make your own decisions
