What’s New at Hillhead 2012?In just over a month’s time, Tarmac’s Hillhead Quarry, near Buxton, Derbyshire, will once again host the world’s

biggest working quarry show, which takes place from 19-21 June. More than 400 UK and international suppliersof plant, equipment, materials and services will be in attendance with a huge range of exhibits on static display

and/or live demonstration. Many of the exhibitors will be using Hillhead as a platform for the launch of their latestproducts and offerings. The following pages provide a brief glimpse of just some of the new equipment, systemsand services that visitors to the show will be able to see on display for the first time.

Ammann Equipment Ltd will be exhibiting anupdated and improved line-up of excavatorattachments designed to deliver bothversatility and utilization for operators. Therewill also be an interactive demonstration ofAmmann’s next-generation AS1 plant controlsystem with key features such as DynamicRAP, Ecoview and Excel Addin, which have allbeen designed to maximize plant efficiencyand reduce operating costs.ArcGen Hilta return to Hillhead with a wide

selection of products geared for use in thequarrying industry, including the new HiltaC150 ‘Pro-Flo’ 6in centrifugal vacuum-assisted automatic priming pump, a low-pressure/high-volume machine, developed tooffer increased performance for customers.This is also the first time that ArcGen Hilta willbe appearing at Hillhead since acquiring

SMC Light & Power in 2010, and they willtherefore be exhibiting their market-leadingrange of lighting towers.

First time exhibitors Asphalt BurnerServices will be using Hillhead 2012 to

promote the newly manufactured Vulcanburner range. The new range comes withinnovative features such as excess air control,combustion chamber optimization and airpressure compensation, that raise thestandards for asphalt production.

With new exhaust emission legislationcoming into effect, E.P. Barruswill be showingthe latest Tier 3 and Tier 4 John Deereemission-certified engines, including the13.5-litre PSX (448kW), 9-litre PSX IT4 (317kW)and 6.8-litre PVX IT4 (224kW) units.

Visitors to the Bell stand will be able get aglimpse of the future with the unveiling of themanufacturer’s much-anticipated E-Seriesarticulated dumptruck (due to go intoproduction in 2013), which will feature anew-shape hood, more imposing styling andextensive technological improvements.

Bomag be will be launching new tandemrollers in the 4-5-tonne weight class, namelythe BW 135 AD-5, BW 138 AD-5 and the BW138 AC-5 combination model. All threemachines follow the ‘Dash-5’ design ethoswith a sloping composite bonnet for excellentvisibility, superior operator ergonomics,and improved operator space and legroomfor safety and productivity. The company willalso be exhibiting a BF 800P paver, BM500/15 milling machine and BW154AD-4Asphalt Manager. In addition, a Bomag BF800 paver will be shown for the first time inthe UK . With paving widths from 2.50m to10m, the machine is powered by a 139kW six-cylinder Deutz engine featuring low noise andexhaust emissions, making it suitable formedium- to large-scale road constructionprojects.Boss Cabins will be exhibiting their brand

new Big Space anti-vandal welfare cabin,which, they say, is the UK’s most flexible roadtowable welfare cabin. The cabin is VCA-approved and is configured to be 0.6mlonger than the company’s standard ComfortSpace unit.Brigade Electronics’ demonstration truck

will be on display at Hillhead this year with

all the latest vehicle safety products,including the company’s new wirelesscamera-monitor system. The wirelesssystem eliminates the need to run cablesalong the vehicle, reducing fitting time andpreventing cables from becoming damaged,which is especially relevant for articulatedmachinery. The company will also be showingits Xtreme Backsense pulsed radar sensorsystem, which has been re-engineered witha new moulded cable connector to increasewater resistance and make it even morerobust with improved precision down to only60cm from the sensor.

A new range of semi-automatic horizontalbalers from CK International will be makingits debut at Hillhead. The CK850 seriesbaler features a large hopper for easierfeeding of large volumes of waste fromloading shovels or grabs. It also has a highcompaction force so maximum containerweights can be achieved.

As usual, ConSpare will be showcasing awide selection of new concrete productionequipment and spare parts, including Matroxultra low-friction, abrasion-resistantpolyethylene wear liners; ExtraChromeSnake block machine table plates; a Monitor

Cordless power tool specialists DEWALTwill be introducing their newly expanded XRLithium Ion range, which now comes withthree-year warranty, 1.5ah or 3.0ah Li-ionbatteries and a universal charger (10.8V,14.4V and 18 XR Li-ion batteries) forenhanced work efficiency. Doosan Infracore Construction Equipment

will be exhibiting and demonstrating a hostof new products at the show, including theDL550-3 and DL450-3 wheel loaders, andtheir largest ADT model to date, the DA40.The company will also be introducing the newBobcat 2.6-tonne zero-tail-swing E26compact excavator, along with the popularS130 skid-steer loader. New to Hillhead will beGemex – a hydraulicallyoperated system, distributed inthe UK and Ireland by Novusgot, designed tosimplify the installation of belt-drive powertransmissions and remove the difficultiesassociated with conventional systems. Itallows efficient maintenance when changingbelts and makes checking the belt tensionquicker and easier, improving overallequipment operation. A standard horizontalGemex unit will be on display to demonstratethe basic principles of operation.

New and proven models from HPCKAESER’s renowned portable compressorrange will be among the highlights on theirstand. The new M250 unit, for example,features the innovative and advanced SIGMAControl mobile (SCM) engine and compressormanagement control system, and combinesa free air delivery of 25.0m3/min (883cfm) at10 bar(g) with high levels of dependability andefficiency.

Hillhead 2012 will see Herbst Machinerylaunch their next-generation tracked screener– the Herbst Compac S52 – which boasts two-way split capabilities and state-of-the-artfolding from standard transport mode.

Hycontrol, specialists in solids and liquidsmeasurement, will also be using Hillhead asa launch pad for their new SPS 2000 siloprotection pod. The SPS 2000 is said to be theworld’s first fully integrated silo overfillprotection system, which is simply fitted viaa single flange at the top of the silo, while allthe critical components can be tested atground level before every fill.

As well as displaying a selection ofbreakers, fixed/rotating pulverizers andcompactors for machines weighing from 0.7to 57 tonnes, Indeco (UK)will also be showinga new range of steel shears and sortinggrabs for the UK market. JCB will be showcasing their latest range

of products for the quarrying and aggregatesindustries, including UK debuts for modelsfrom their heavyline and compact ranges.Among the new exhibits will be the JCB 457WLS wheel loader, which replaces the 456, theJS360, JS260 and JS220 tracked excavatorsand 8026 CTS mini-excavator. It uses a dedicatedboom and dipper arm, offering greater diggingand lifting performance. JCB will also beshowing one of their latest new-generationskid-steer loader models that use a radial liftversion of the JCB Powerboom single-sidedlift arm, providing maximum digging capabilityand reach.

New products on the Jet Materials standwill include: a Matest asphalt gyratorycompactor with touch-screen technology;an advanced rebar locating system with scancart and pin-point accuracy and built-intemperature compensation from JamesInstruments; a temperature-matched curingsystem for concrete applications; a GPSlightweight drop tester from ZornInstruments; and an extra-large wheel tracker

and slab compactor (combined unit) from IPCGlobal. KVM International will be launching a

new generation of drying drums for theasphalt industry, featuring their patented ‘4point temperature measuring system’ wherethe temperature development of the dryingprocess through the drum can be monitored.The company’s latest drying drums allow upto 50% RAP to be added, giving a high-quality dried mixture of virgin aggregates andRAP at a constant temperature during itsdischarge from the drying drum.

Two new machines will be making their UKdebuts on the Liebherr stand. With anoperating weight of approximately 44 tonnes,the R 950 SME excavator is positionedbetween the standard version of the R 946 andthe next larger model, the R 956 – both ofwhich are also newly developed modelscomplying with Stage IIIB/Tier 4i exhaustemission standards. The R 950 SME hasbeen developed specifically to increaseproductivity in tough quarrying applications;the ‘SME’ acronym stands for ‘Super MassExcavation’. Liebherr’s new Mobilmix 2.5mixing plant is a container-mounted systemprimarily intended for mobile use on largeconstruction sites and civil engineeringprojects. It has a maximum output of 110m3/hof compacted concrete and features anintegral DW 2.5 twin-shaft mixer from thecompany’s successful range of mixingequipment.

This year’s show will see bulk materialshandling specialists Martin EngineeringLtd displaying new products from the Cougarfamily of vibratory motors. The Cougarbrand was incorporated into Martin lastyear and their 12V truck vibratory motors areexpected to be a popular addition, helpingtruck drivers and haulage companiesincrease productivity with difficult bulkmaterial loads.

Celebrating their 40th anniversary thisyear, Marubeni-Komatsu Ltd will be showingthe new Komatsu HD785-7 rigid dumptruckas well as a range of brand new Stage IIIB-compliant models including the D65-17dozer, HM400-3 articulated dumptruck andPC490LCD-10 excavator. A Stage IIIB engineand DPF (diesel particulate filter) will alsobe displayed on the company’s stand.

Northern Ireland-based MaximusCrushing & Screening will be officiallylaunching two new machines at this year’sshow – the Maximus 409 and the Maximus522T. The Maximus 409 is a small, twin-deck,three-way-split scalping machine developed

for users requiring versatility and ease oftransport, while the Maximus 522T is alarge triple-deck screener designed formedium- to large-scale operators requiringhigh-capacity and high-specificationaggregate screening capabilities.Metso Minerals (UK) Ltd will also be

displaying several new products including theLT106 mobile jaw crusher, which has beendesigned around the well-proven C106 jaw,and the LT120 mobile jaw crusher, whichincorporates the latest member of the C-jawproduct range, the C120. Of particular interest on the MineralProducts Association stand this year will bethe Safer by Competence range of initiativeswhich are aimed at helping members achievea fully competent workforce focused ondelivering ‘zero harm’. Also, the MPA will beusing the show to launch its new initiative,Safer by Partnership, which is specificallyaimed at reducing contractor injuries and illhealth.
