ArtScience on Screen explores the intersection between art and science using moving image, video and film. This rolling programme includes solo showcases, curated programmes, feature-length films, multi-screen presentations and creative documentaries, featuring filmmakers and artists from Singapore and beyond.

A Sense of Time From 1 Jan

Organised in response to Minimalism: Space. Light. Object., this programme of contemporary Asian cinema explores a distinctive narrative form, visual style and imagery devoted to slowness, duration and contemplation. Featuring the films of Hou Hsiao-Hsien, Hirokazu Kore-eda, Jia Zhangke, Tsai Ming-Liang and more.

ARTSCIENCE LATEEvery third Thursday evening each month, ArtScience Museum keeps its doors open until 10pm offering free performances, late exhibition viewings and special 1-for-1 entry to exhibitions from 7pm to 10pm.


FEN

Thursday | 17 Jan

FEN is an improvised music project group comprising Otomo Yoshihide (Japan), Ryu Hankil (Korea), Yan Jun (China) and Yuen Chee Wai (Singapore) – four of the most significant figures in the experimental music scene in Asia today.

Headlining the performance season of Minimalism at ArtScience Late in January, FEN will be sculpting an immersive sound piece that probes sound, space and silence.

Admission is free on a first-come, first-served basis. Limited capacity.

Andy Yang + SA

Thursday | 21 Feb

Andy Chia and Natalie Alexandra of music collective SA teams up with visual artist and musician Andy Yang in a performance project that explores notions of conception and ceremony through sound and visual art. The performance imagines an in utero experience and takes the audience inside a cocoon of sonic visual recollections, drawing inspiration from life unfolding.

Admission is free on a first-come, first-served basis. Limited capacity.

QUANTUM SHORTS FILM FESTIVAL

Quantum physics, which describes the behaviour of matter at small scales, has long provided inspiration for artists, writers, film-makers and philosophers.

Charge yourself up with quantum ideas and look forward to where quantum physics takes us with Quantum Shorts Film Festival. The film festival returns with screenings of short films that are inspired by or related to the themes and ideas of quantum physics.

Run by the Centre for Quantum Technologies at the National University of Singapore with a constellation of prestigious partners, Quantum Shorts has alternated between annual calls for science fiction and science films since 2012.
