Public Holidays this Month
1st October –Queens Birthday
Hello and Welcome!
Dear Parents, Families, Friends and Children of LEAD,
Welcome to our October Newsletter.
Early Childhood Educators Day
Thank you for making Early Childhood Educators day such a special day for all of our wonderful educators. We were
overwhelmed by the wonderful responses from families about our centre and amazing educators. Being an early childhood
educator can often be a challenging role, but having the tremendous amount of positive feedback felt very rewarding for
all the hard work that our educators put in.
Christmas Holidays
While it still seems ridiculously early to be thinking about Christmas, I am hoping to start preparing for the festive season
over the next month. If you
already know you will be away for the Christmas period, please let the centre know via email at your earliest convenience. This
will allow me to roster on
appropriate number of staff and, in turn, allow our educators to make their own plans for the festive season. Thanking you in
advance.

For the month of October we are focusing on…
Quality Area 1 Element 1.2.2 Responsive teaching and scaffolding
Educators respond to children’s ideas and play
and extend children’s learning through open-ended
questions, interactions and feedback.
Have your say!
This can be achieved by:
• educators intentionally scaffolding children’s understanding and learning
• educators making use of spontaneous ‘teachable moments’ to extend children’s learning
• educators responding to children’s learning dispositions by commenting on them and providing encouragement and additional ideas
• educators responding to children’s ideas and using their interests as a basis for further learning and exploration
• educators creating opportunities for peer scaffolding
• educators noticing children applying their learning in new ways or between different contexts and talking about this with them in ways that
build their understanding
• educators modelling mathematical and scientific language and concepts
• educators using language associated with the creative arts
• educators joining in children’s play when invited, taking on a range of roles and co-constructing
• materials, such as signs that extend the play
Documents to support this includes:
• documented reflective practice
• documentation and monitoring of children’s learning, development, wellbeing and engagement
• project or inquiry work where children are given the opportunity to take the lead in an investigation or collaborate with peers, teachers,
family members and other members of the community
Here’s What’s Happening in the
What a wonderful month! We have welcomed Ivy to our room, helped to celebrate Isla’s and
Stevie-Lee’s first birthdays. Watched while Isla and Stevie learnt to walk, cheered on Spencer
and Kassima as they learnt to crawl. We have learnt all about spring time, creating flowers,
nature collages, lots of gardening, explored our senses with mud and water play and most of all
had a lot of fun.
We have explored our own cultures and diversity within our room researching what different
countries and different backgrounds we all come from. We created a fun map of the world
complete with our photos, flags and string to help us visually identify where we all come from.
We looked at our different features and completions, creating photo books of ourselves for us
to look at.
As many of you are now aware Miss Gracie will be leaving our special room very soon, we are
all going to miss her smiling face each day, Miss Sina will be taking over her roll in the room and
we are all very excited. We have spent lots of extra time with Miss Sina over the past few
weeks to make this transition as easy as possible. As always please feel free to come talk to
either myself, Miss Gracie or Miss Sina about and worries or concerns you may have.
Thanks Miss Anne
Toddler
Time
Hello Families
Wow – nearly the end of year already and look how much our Toddler children have grown and
developed. We have witnessed children move physically from crawling to walking, from lying to
sitting to crawling. Language and communication are also developing both verbal and non-
verbal as all children have a very strong sense of belonging to our room and are confident to
express themselves. Winter is now here!! Although it can be quite cool outside it is still
important that we get some fresh air and escape the indoor germs, even for a brief time. Thank
you all for bringing such wonderful warm clothing allowing us to get out and explore what
Winter has to offer. It is a real privilege to educate and care for your children and although I
don’t always physically see our Koala parents due to my shorter working hours, I hope you are
enjoying the Communication Books as much.

Hello again
Over the last month we have been looking at all thing’s construction from hammers to the big dump
trucks. We have been doing lots of art using construction as the medium, we had fun banging on cotton
balls filled with paint and even making tyre prints on paper using the small tractors from our room. We
have enjoyed dressing up with our hard hats on and building with the blocks to make huge towers
together.
Over the next few weeks we are going to be exploring our sense of touch by getting busy with slime,
goop, play dough, and much much more. We all enjoy using our fingers to paint so let’s get messy
together and see what we can learn through the different textures we explore.
Don’t forget with the warmer weather approaching to pack cooler clothes, nappies and a sheet set for
rest.
Until next month …Miss Jodi and Miss Zheanne
Pre Kindy
This month has been very exciting in Pre-kindy as we have been exploring using more
technology to aid in our learning, the children are actively designing and creating their own
robots in adobe illustrator to create a puppet in the end. The children all have been exploring
their typing skills and continue to work towards spelling their names the computer and
identifying letters. Now continuing to October, we will be exploring about our futures and what
we think we will be learning next year in kindergarten. What a great month of learning we had
using technology to aid us in our discoveries!
Thank you
Miss Sarah
Lots of learning over the past month in the kindergarten room which has been fantastic. The
children have loved involving in some letter awareness with a variety of activities that allowed
them to practise recognising letters, identifying their sounds and even have a go at writing
them. They also loved being able to string together letters to create words and meaning from
these letters.
After this we had a student from Tafe in our room, Tushi. With Tushi the children delved into
learning about water conservation. To begin with they did not hold much prior knowledge on
this topic but showed great interest in learning why we should save water and how we could
achieve this. They involved in many activities inside and outside to help make our kindergarten
environment more water conservative. This lead is to learning about the water cycle which has
also been a hit. The children are becoming very good at understanding how the water cycle
works and have engaged in many experiments to help try to see the cycle.
As we move into term 4 of 2018 we will start exploring the future and where we are going to
be in 2019. This will predominately be looking at school to help the children get ready for
school and exploring what it might be like.
Until next time,
Tiarna 😊
Another fantastic month with the schoolies. As promised, it was a slime filled September. The
children experimented with different textures and best of all edible slime. Our 'all about me'
tree is still in progress and hope to have it up displaying the children's artwork soon. There has
been a great interest in art this month, so heading into October the schoolies will be letting
their creative minds run free. Scrapbooking with the vacation care schoolies has been a hit, and
the colouring in competition was closely contested. The winner was 1st place Adison and 2nd
place, Jai. Enjoy your prizes! I look forward to another exciting month! Miss Sina
