“What’s Making Everyone So Sick?” TASK You are a member of a scientific team from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that is visiting Beckwith Middle School. An epidemic breaks out in the community. Many people are sick and have been quarantined. Local doctors are puzzled about the the origin and type of disease that is affecting the community of Rehoboth. While quarantined in the Beckwith Library, you will research infectious diseases and present information to the community in an attempt to solve the mystery of what is making everyone so sick. PROCESS You will research an infectious disease from the list provided or consult with Ms. Mack. Your task will be: 1. To research your disease and be informative. 2. To orally present your research. 3. To leave information with the members of the Rehoboth community to be reviewed later. 4. To write a report and choose either a slide presentation, brochure or poster to demonstrate your research and knowledge of your chosen disease. The information will presented as follows: A. “What’s Making Everyone So Sick?”  

TASK  

You are a member of a scientific team from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that is visiting Beckwith Middle School. An epidemic  breaks out in the community. Many people are sick and have been quarantined. Local doctors are puzzled about the the origin and type of disease that is affecting the community of Rehoboth.  While quarantined in the Beckwith Library, you will research infectious diseases and present information to the community in an attempt to solve the mystery of what is making everyone so sick.  

PROCESS  

You will research an infectious disease from the list provided or consult with Ms. Mack.  Your task will be:  

1. To research your disease and be informative. 2. To orally present your research. 3. To leave information with the members of the Rehoboth community to be reviewed later. 4. To write a report and choose either a slide presentation, brochure or poster to 

demonstrate your research and knowledge of your chosen disease. 

 The information will presented as follows:  

A. A Written Report B. You must pick one of the following as an additional method of communicating

Each option must include the following information about your disease.  

● A basic description of the disease ● A brief history of the disease ● Age group/gender/cultural group/country most affected by this disease ● The symptoms of the disease ● How the body is affected by the disease ● Cures or treatments for the disease ● What causes the disease (how can a person get it) ● How a person’s daily life is affected by the disease ● Number of Americans affected by the disease ● Works Cited 

 You will be required to:  

❖ Fill out a RESEARCH ORGANIZER to record information you have collected ❖ Find and print out a current news article on your disease.  (Work Cited) ❖ Find a YouTube video and copy URL into report and other communication.
