We surveyed 400+ service providers in the U.S. and in Europe to examine the current state of play in the cloud market. How are they addressing the growing demand for cloud?

DATA CENTRE OF CHOICE
The U.S. and Europe differ on the type of data centre they use. European providers prefer CNDCs while the U.S are more likely use a self-owned or on premise DC
The least popular in both the U.S. and Europe were Telco data centres
In the EU, the Netherlands scored highest for use of CNDCs with 75%. Spain on the other hand scored just 8% for preferring CNDCs

CUSTOMER DEMAND TODAY
Demand for SaaS applications in the U.S. higher than in Europe, U.S. more advanced
Demand for cloud in the U.S. market was equal to the European average

U.S. providers expect a higher rate of growth in demand for cloud services by 2015
73% of U.S. respondents expect 40-100% of revenues to come from cloud by 2015

U.S. cloud and hosting providers overwhelmingly positive about cloud’s effect on revenues
Of all those surveyed, cloud and hosting providers in the U.S. were most positive about the impact of cloud on their future revenue

KEY COMPETITORS
European and U.S. service providers don’t consider international players as their key competitors
In Europe this could be explained by the fact that Pan- European and U.S. providers are perceived as offering different products which target different requirements
In the U.S. this is because few EU providers operate in the U.S. and U.S. providers operate on a different, larger scale

Looking underneath these figures, we found that a large majority (61%) execute 3 or more strategies
These strategies tend to be emergent, ad-hoc, and mostly driven by customer requirements
