With the richest dairy produce in the world, award-winning seafood and the sublime Jersey Royal new potato among its harvest, the food served here is to die for. You can taste the freshness at every eatery – from the most bijou of beach cafes to the ritziest of restaurants.

There’s never a dull moment – our uniqueness is celebrated throughout the year with festivals and events that champion our colourful culture and heritage, while the jaw-dropping scenery inspires all who come here to step outside and discover a natural environment accented with centuries of history.

Extending Parr’s examination of national and regional characteristics, this exhibition presents a specially commissioned series of photographs of Jersey’s Liberation Day celebrations in 2013 alongside photographs made in Guernsey on 9th May 2012. Staffer – Photographs by Percival Dunham 1912 - 1914 Gunner Percival Robert Dunham of the Royal Garrison Artillery was just one of many brave Jersey men who served in World War I. What marked Percival out from his comrades was his pioneering work as one of Jersey’s fi rst photojournalists. As Morning News ‘staffer’ between 1912 and 1914 he produced over one thousand photographs that recorded the everyday lives of Islanders with vision and technique that were well before their time. This exhibition marks the passing of one hundred years since World War I by presenting a view, through the lens of one of Jersey’s undiscovered photographers, of the people whose lives would be forever changed by war.Time: 10:00 – 22:00Price: Free entryPlace: Berni Gallery, Jersey Arts

He sits in his ‘den’ preparing for his yearly ritual of recording his refl ections about his life and his decisions on a tape-recorder.Described by Beckett as ‘fi lled up to his teeth with bitterness’, Krapp hovers between life and death, the past and present, comedy and tragedy. Dracula Stretching from London, through provincial England, to the mountainous wastes of Transylvania, Bram Stoker’s timeless gothic thriller embodies the struggle to break taboos, resist temptation and stop the unknown outside becoming the enemy within. It has included a comprehensive programme of plant identifi cation and labelling, together with the creation of gardens which illustrate different design themes and the effects of seasonality, climate and environment. Many tender and exotic plants that thrive in Jersey’s mild climate can be seen growing at Samarès.

La Lande de Ouest Part of the dry coastal heathland lying above the cliffs along the greater part of the south-west coast. A designated Site of Special Interest (SSI) and rich in fl ora and fauna, this area is an important part of the island’s landscape, and biodiversity. A great area for walking and bird watching.

Le Noir PréOften known simply as “The Orchid Field”, this unique site actually consists of two distinct but adjoining wet meadows. Le Noir Pré and the smaller Le Clos du Seigneur. The site is one of the last remaining strongholds of the Jersey Orchid or loose-fl owered Orchid (Orchis Laxifl ora). Orchid fl owering season May and June.

St Catherine’s WoodsAlso known as Rozel Woods, this woodland is set in a deep-cut, steep-sided valley. A stream running through the valley fl oor has helped develop a wide range of habitats within the woodland.

Les LandesThis coastal heathland is the most spectacular aspect of Jersey’s wild environments. Les Landes is Jersey’s largest single expanse of maritime heathland covering 160 hectares and bound by 3 km of high granite cliffs.

Ramsar Sites These are areas listed on the Ramstar List of Westland’s of International Importance which concerns the conservation and wise use of wetlands and their resources. Jersey has four! These magnifi cent sites are; the south-east coast of Jersey, Le Minquiers, Les Ècréhous, and Les Dirouilles, and Les Pierres de lecq (The Paternosters). These sites are truly unique and worth a visit; however, three of these sites are offshore reefs and require a trip by boat. Check out the “Activities” section of the operators who can take you on a short boat trip to see these sites. The south coast area can be walked around and guided walks are available (contact Jersey Walk Adventures – see “Activities”). Important! If you wish to walk around the area independently please seek advice fi rst as the tide rises rapidly and you can become stranded if unprepared. Knowledge of the tides is essentially. Jersey Tourism can provide advice if necessary but recommends that you employ a guide. See “Walking” section of this guide.

Val de la Mare Arboretum Hidden away in the north west corner of the Island next to Val de la Mare reservoir, is one of Britain’s most unique collection of trees in an arboretum called ‘The Forgotten Forest’. Planted in the late 1970s, seedlings grown from seeds gathered all over the world have progressed into an eclectic collection of mature trees. Divided into zones within the arboretum, North American maples and oaks stand near Australasian eucalyptus trees, interesting fl ora compliment a majestic wingnut, walnut and hickory zone. Don’t miss a giant Californian redwood specimen or the Japanese zone alongside the conifers and pines. There’s even an ‘Elm Trial Zone’ containing species of the tree which are thought to be resistant to Dutch elm disease.

Where do the locals go?When you are visiting somewhere new, we all know the best places

are where the local folk love to go. Here are two of Jersey’s favourites, one in St.Helier and one on the East Coast.

The Inn • Restaurant & BarTHE INN is proud to be one of the first restaurants in Jersey to be awarded a Taste Jersey accreditation receiving Gold Highly Commended, recognising outstanding food and service and also holds a coveted Gold Award from Visit Britain. You’ll find it on Queen’s Road, just a short walk from the centre of town in all its purple glory.

The Restaurant is calm and inviting, with unusual art adding a fun vibe. You’ll find a real mix of customers and the staff are incredibly efficient and friendly. THE INN has some of the best Chefs in Jersey, who will prepare for you fresh locally caught fish, tender steaks and house specialities - loads to choose from.

On a Sunday there is no need to rush for lunch... Slunch! THE INN serves food anytime from 1-8pm and you can Slunch a little or a lot.

THE INN’s Bar has a great range of wines, cocktails and real ales, as well as serving food and the Live music on Friday and Saturday nights is a real treat.

Seymour Inn • Traditional Pub & RestaurantTake a trip out to Grouville and visit the Seymour Inn, a traditional Jersey pub with a warm welcome and great pub grub. The menu has lots of choice including, unsurprisingly being surrounded by sea, plenty of delicious fish dishes. The oysters come from right across the road and you can even see the oyster beds. The al fresco areas are perfect to enjoy the beach views with a chilled glass of wine or real ale. On Sundays the Seymour Inn also serves lunch all day until 8pm.

Two Jersey gems, both with excellent food and friendly service, THE INN and the Seymour Inn won’t disappoint. And to welcome visitors to Jersey, receive 10% off your meal when you use this voucher.

Beaches to choose from

BEACH LIFEGUARDS IN JERSEY A team of professional lifeguards patrol key beaches from mid May to the end of September. Look out for the red and yellow fl ags which indicate the patrolled areas for swimming. Swim within the fl ags, but note that when a red fl ag is fl ying the conditions are dangerous and unsuitable for swimming. Jersey has some of the largest tidal fl ows in the world so take care when bathing or exploring the seashore. The beach lifeguard team is only too happy to advise swimmers regarding beach safety, please ask.St Brelade’s Bay has been voted one of the top 10 beaches in the UK by Tripadvisor’s Travellers Choice 2013
