“…when we fast from this indifference, we can begin to feast on love. In fact, Lent is the perfect time to learn how to love again. Jesus—the
great protagonist of this holy season—
certainly showed us the way. In him, God descends all the way
down to bring everyone up. In his life and his ministry, no one is excluded.”
- Pope Francis
Kyrie/Lord, Have Mercy
Repeat after Cantor
Kyrie, eleison. Lord, have mercy on us.
Christe, eleison. Christ, have mercy on us.
Kyrie, eleison. Lord, have mercy on us.
Rekindle… Lent
“Indifference to our neighbor and to God also represents a real temptation for us
Christians. Each year during Lent we need to hear once more the voice of the
prophets who cry out and trouble our conscience.”- Pope Francis
Where do we struggle?
Where are we tempted?
How is our conscience troubled?
Genesis 9: 8 - 15:When I bring clouds over the earth, and
the bow appears in the clouds, I will recall the covenant I have made between me and
you and all living beings…
St. Peter 3: 18 - 22:Christ suffered for sins once, the righteous
for the sake of the unrighteous, that he might lead you to God.
… the water that saved Noah, prefigured baptism, which saves you now.
Mark 1: 12 - 15The Spirit drove Jesus out into the desert,
and he remained in the desert for forty days, tempted by Satan.
Mark 1:15
What does this mean?
Every one of us has a struggle –* What demons are we dealing with?* What desert have we been driven into?
Lent is a time for us to…
+ Embrace… Not Escape - Live in the desert, realize God’s love for us through the
struggle/temptation- ‘the angels ministered to Jesus’ –
- Validate one another, affirm and challenge – - be angels to each other
+Every person can deepen their relationship this Lent
What is our focus?
You are invited to participate in a Holistic Lent!
1. Choose an area to focus on for the entirety of Lent, or for the week.- Body/Mind/Spirit
2. Keep track of your ‘desert’ – way in which you deepened your relationship with Jesus.
3. Bring your ‘tally’ or offering each week and place them in the appropriate rock. Together we can
bring our communal Lenten experience to the joy of resurrection.
ST. CHRISTOPHER PARISH We are in transition…
What will God call us to?What will God ask of us in the coming
weeks?
WHAT NOW? Jesus dealt with transition too…
Are we willing to trust that God will not abandon us?
Are we willing to respond in the midst of change the same as when things are comfortable?
Are we willing to Rekindle the fire of Lent and journey through our individual and communal desert, trusting in God and one another?
WE WILL BE TEMPTED… To complacency To mediocrity To settle
Jesus NEVER settled or stayed in one place… he journeyed calling us to REPENT AND BELIEVE IN THE GOSPEL!
How can our parish experience enhance our Lent?
Participate in a Holistic Lent Notice the difference in our Liturgy during Lent
Sung Kyrie (Penitential Rite)Sung response to the Prayers of the FaithfulAgnus Dei (Lamb of God) is sungSilence for closing hymn for all/some of lent
(feel the silence… don’t cave to the temptation to put your jacket on or get ready to leave until after the ministry processes out)
These actions cause us to know… something is different!
God is descending all the way down this Lent to bring us up.
