The announcements included short 2 or 3 line messages about Steps for Students. St. Jerome also included articles in the weekly e-newsletter and posted on all of their social media pages, tagging Steps for Students. They also had special bulldog socks made for students who raised $50 or more.

HOW DID YOU PROMOTE THE EVENT? DID YOU CREATE A VIDEO?

WHAT WAS YOUR TIMELINE LEADING UP TO THE EVENT?

St. Jerome had a committee of parent volunteers as well as school staff members who coordinated the fundraising efforts. There is a new Chair person every year, but it is usually a member of the committee from the previous year. The committee then divides into sub-committees to better coordinate our efforts and run more efficiently.

The ideal timeline and reality are two different things. Ideally preparations begin as soon as the race is over. The committee nominates the next year's Chair person at the debrief meeting. The school starts promoting and recruiting at parent orientations at the beginning of the school year and committee planning meetings start in September. Solicitation of donors starts at that time as well. This is where reality sets in; volunteers do not always follow through with the ideal time line which often leaves things for the last minute. Could the results be even better if they actually followed the timeline? YES!

St. Jerome created a video, had incentives for the students and registrants, held a pep rally, and encouraged the parish and priests to get involved as well. To work with participants who preferred to pay cash, the school had banks of computers set up at events such as Grandparents Day, Catholic Schools Week, etc. It was announced weekly which class had the highest percentage of registered participants as well as the person who was leading the fundraising at each grade level. The announcements included short 2 or 3 line messages about Steps for Students. St. Jerome also included articles in the weekly e-newsletter and posted on all of their social media pages, tagging Steps for Students. They also had special bulldog socks made for students who raised $50 or more.
