This means that the school has been mostly empty since 12:00 p.m. so it’s easy to know who’s been inside. In total, I have four suspects.” “Interesting,” said Dunnit. “I’ll speak to them all and ask them what they were doing between 12:00 p.m. and 12:30 p.m.” The first person to be interviewed was Mr Khan. “I was with a year three pupil called Trevor between 12:00 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. as he fell during the relay race and needed a plaster.” The second person to be interviewed was Mrs Marsh. “I was inside because I was eating my lunch,” she said. “Lots of people saw me. Good luck finding the medals.” The third person to be interviewed was Mr Begum. “I was inside teaching year three at the time,” he explained. “At 12:00 p.m., I teach the whole class in the computer room.” Finally, Dunnit spoke to the school’s receptionist, Miss Goodwin. “I’ve been busy working at the front desk all morning. Detective Dunnit had been called to Six Oaks Primary School. The headteacher had discovered that the Sports Day medals had gone missing and wanted Dunnit’s help to find them.

When Dunnit arrived, she saw a large banner outside the school.

Dunnit went into the office where Ms Porter, the headteacher, was waiting. “Thank you for coming, Dunnit!” she said.

“No problem,” replied Dunnit. “Tell me what happened and I’m sure that we can solve this mystery.”

“Thank you,” she smiled. “The medals were in the top drawer of my desk but now they’re gone. I left my office between 12:00 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. so they must have been taken then. The whole school has been outside taking part in Sports Day. This means that the school has been mostly empty since 12:00 p.m. so it’s easy to know who’s been inside. In total, I have four suspects.”

“Interesting,” said Dunnit. “I’ll speak to them all and ask them what they were doing between 12:00 p.m. and 12:30 p.m.”

The first person to be interviewed was Mr Khan. “I was with a year three pupil called Trevor between 12:00 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. as he fell during the relay race and needed a plaster.”

The second person to be interviewed was Mrs Marsh. “I was inside because I was eating my lunch,” she said. “Lots of people saw me. Good luck finding the medals.”

The third person to be interviewed was Mr Begum. “I was inside teaching year three at the time,” he explained. “At 12:00 p.m., I teach the whole class in the computer room.”

Finally, Dunnit spoke to the school’s receptionist, Miss Goodwin. “I’ve been busy working at the front desk all morning. Even if I had wanted to take the medals, I wouldn’t have had the time to.”

After the interviews had finished, Dunnit called in Ms Porter and said, “One of these people was lying to me. I know who took the medals.”

It was a hot afternoon and Detective Dunnit had been called to Six Oaks Primary School. Earlier that day, the headteacher, Ms Porter, had discovered that the Sports Day medals had gone missing.

When Dunnit arrived, she could hear loud cheers coming from the field; the whole school was outside celebrating Sports Day. Dunnit remembered her old Sports Days and smiled. Getting to spend the whole afternoon out in the sun was always a lot of fun.

After signing in at reception, Dunnit was shown into the office where Ms Porter was waiting. “Thank goodness you’re here, Dunnit!” she exclaimed.

“No need to worry, Ms Porter,” calmed Dunnit. “Tell me what happened and I’m sure that we’ll get to the bottom of this.”

“Thank you,” she smiled. “The medals were in the top drawer of my desk,” she said, pointing at an empty drawer. “I’ve only been out of my office today between 12:00 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. so they must have been taken then. The whole school has been outside since 12:00 p.m. so it’s been easy to work out who was in the building at that time. In total, I have four suspects.”

“Interesting,” said Dunnit. “Can you bring those four people in? I’d like to talk to each of them.”

The first person to be interviewed was Mr Khan. “I don’t know why I’m being interviewed,” he complained. “It was obviously Mrs Marsh. She’s jealous because my class win Sports Day every year. I was in the medical room with Trevor between 12:00 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. as he fell during the relay race and needed a plaster.”

The second person to be interviewed was Mrs Marsh. “I was inside because I was taking my lunch break,” she said. “Lots of people saw me; just ask them. I hope that Mr Khan didn’t think that it was me. I would never do a thing like this.”

The third person to be interviewed was Mr Begum. “I was inside teaching year three at the time,” he explained. “Between 12:00 p.m. and 13:00 p.m., I take the whole class for lessons in the computer room. Feel free to check my timetable; it’s written on there.”

Finally, Dunnit called in the school’s receptionist, Miss Goodwin. “Have you not seen how busy I am?” she asked. “I’ve been sat at the front desk all day either filling out paperwork or answering the phone. Even if I had wanted to take the medals, I wouldn’t have had the time to.”

After the interviews had finished, Dunnit called in Ms Porter and said, “One of these stories just doesn’t make sense. I know who took the medals.”

It was a hot afternoon in mid-June and Detective Dunnit had been called to Six Oaks Primary School. Earlier that day, the headteacher, Ms Porter, had discovered that the KS2 Sports Day medals had gone missing.

As Dunnit walked towards the school, she could hear loud cheers and shouts coming from the field. A group of red-faced children ran past her. They quickly made it to the water fountain and each took a long slurp before heading back to join the fun. Dunnit remembered her old Sports Days and smiled; there was nothing better than getting to spend the whole afternoon out in the sun.

After being greeted by the school’s receptionist, Dunnit was shown into the headteacher’s office where Ms Porter was waiting. “Thank goodness you’re here, Dunnit!” she exclaimed.

“No need to worry, Ms Porter,” Dunnit soothed. “Tell me what you know and I’m sure that we’ll get to the bottom of this.”

“Thank you,” she smiled. “The medals were in the top drawer of my desk,” she said, indicating toward to an unlocked, empty drawer. “I’ve only been out of my office for half an hour today between 12:00 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. so they must have been taken then. The whole school has been outside all afternoon so it’s been quite easy to keep an eye on who’s been in the building. In total, I have four suspects.”

“Interesting,” said Dunnit. “Can you bring those four people in, please? I’d like to talk to them one at a time.”

The first person to be interviewed was Mr Khan. “I don’t know why you’re even interviewing me,” he started. “It was obviously Mrs Marsh. She’s jealous about my class winning every year and wanted to play a prank on me. Between 12:00 p.m. and 12:30 p.m., I was in the medical room with Trevor. He fell during the relay race and needed cleaning up.”

The second person to be interviewed was Mrs Marsh. “I was taking my lunch break in the staff room – that’s why I was inside. There are plenty of people who saw me; just ask them. I know that it looks like I took the medals but I was only teasing Mr Khan. I hope that you find them.”

The third person to be interviewed was Mr Begum. “I was inside teaching year three at the time,” he explained. “Every Friday, between 12:00 p.m. and 13:00 p.m., I take the whole class for coding lessons in the computer room. Feel free to check my timetable; it’s all on there.”
