Why do people hate recruiters so much?
There are three regular complaints that job seekers make about recruiters…
Problem #1 – They don’t return calls. It might not seem like a big deal to them, but to you it can be upsetting. Job hunting is stressful enough and recruiters who don’t keep in touch can make this even worse.
Problem #2 – They have a lack of understanding about the company and role.There are horror stories of candidates making it through to the offer stage and finding out the recruiter mislead them with incorrect information about a role.
Problem #3 – Maybe they’re just not that into you.If a recruiter isn’t returning your calls or emails – maybe it’s time to move on. Don’t take it personally but it’s not worth wasting your time on, so start applying through others.
Is there anything you can do about it?If you’re lucky enough to find a good recruiter - stay in touch. Connect with them on Linkedin and touch base every now and then to maintain that relationship so that if you’re looking for a job or they have one come up, you’ll be at the forefront of their minds.
Remember: the recruiter’s focus is on the client, that is who they’re representing and importantly, that is who is paying their fees. Take note of that and when you’re dealing with recruiters make sure your focus is on you.
