WHY “SELFISH MARKETING” IS

HIGHLY INEFFECTIVE!

YOU DON’T NEED A REASON TO HELP PEOPLE.

I’ll give you one anyway!

Social media marketing and networking is an excellent way to:

•Gain new clients

•Maximize your networking efforts

MOST PEOPLE HAVE IT ALL WRONG!!!

I have not only been tracking my own marketing efforts, but have been observing how other

people and businesses interact with me and with each other, and I’ve discovered:

I receive LinkedIn connection requests every day from people, and as soon as I click the accept button, they are pushing their product, service, or whatever else

they’re selling down my throat. I see the same thing in networking groups.

Obviously, you have to promote your business, but I also believe you have to gain relationships and trust before people will give you their business. If you look on any of my social media pages (and I

hope you do, and follow me on all of them), I promote my business, but what you won’t see on any of my pages is a digital sales pitch.

Your first contact should be a brief introduction.

Send your new connection a brief message thanking them for connecting with you and giving a SHORT introduction of your business, then ask

them how you can help promote THEIR business. This will shock your new

prospect and will instantly make you stand out in that

prospect’s mind.

Hello,

Thank you for connecting. How can we help one another?

Your posts on your social media pages, groups, and communities should be something that is of value to your readers without directly

trying to sell your product or service.

Give your prospects free value.

Try offering:

•marketing tips

•free promotional items

•inspirational quotes or messages

People really enjoy the small things. At this point, you have already introduced yourself so people are

already familiar with your business, and this technique will definitely increase your credibility.

Thank a customer for their business (or for referring you business) by

doing the same for them.

•A testimonial from another small business owner goes a long way.

•Tell your follower’s about his/her business and encourage them to follow their pages

and blogs.

•Patronize their business. He did it for you!

Don’t just write about your business!

People already know what you do. After a few sales pitches, you’re going to lose your audience because the monotony will bore them to death.

If you talk about things you have in common with them, or things that interest them, you will see a lot more engagement from your readers, and ultimately, they will become customers!

Post and blog about topics that interest your prospects.

The best way for you to grow your business is to help others grow theirs! If we, as business owners, spent as much time helping other businesses success as we did

our own, we would ALL be more successful, make more money, create more jobs, and help our society as a whole. Make it a point to promote ONE fellow small business every week. The best way to help

ourselves is to help each other!
