Recently, Mai-Wel was invited to partner with a local firm where we placed seven jobseekers from our Transition to Work (youth) and Disability Employment programs into their business.
Apart from the various social and economic benefits that employment provides to the people and their communities, the employer will also be contributing to covering the shortfall of NDIS funding for four of our participants from Jupiter; our lifestyle and leisure service which provides a variety of community and centre based options to support people with high support and complex needs to develop their skills, work towards their goals, increase their independence and participate as valued, active members of the community.
Since the introduction of the NDIS many of our services to people with a disability are operating at a loss. Quite simply, this is because NDIS funding does not adequately cover the cost of service provision and other overheads such as buildings, maintenance and utilities to name just a few. In fact in some cases we are losing $4.00 per hour of service per participant.
Every 12 months we will provide an impact statement to detail the relevant social impact our partnership is having. This statement enables the employer to demonstrate; their commitment to their community, progress towards their social procurement plan, contribution to sustainable cycles of economies and their status as a local champion for social enterprises.

ABOUT THE MAI-WEL GROUP
Mai-Wel creates and delivers vibrant, innovative services and businesses which provide opportunities for people with a disability to achieve their dreams and goals for life.
Mai-Wel began in 1960 when a group of families shared their vision of education and opportunities for life for their children with a disability. To whom it may concern, Based on our recent 2-‐year experience working with The Mai -‐ Wel Group we write this letter to express our strong support for the services of Mai – Wel, which truly exceeded expectation and were a stand out amongst other employment service networks that we have been working with. The Greenhill’s Connectivity Centre employment project was built to maximize employment opportunities relating to a $440M shopping center redevelopment. This purpose built facility, a joint venture between Multiplex and Stockland, provided support to Maitland and surrounding communities. This shared value initiative was a result of feedback from the community and experience in similar projects to ensure successful outcomes for employers, jobseekers and community groups. Mai – Wel demonstrated exemplary commitment to the Greenhill’s Connectivity Centre employment project with not only a demonstrable duty of care for their clients but also their innovative approach in seeking solutions to ensure greater outcomes for Multiplex, employers and all stakeholders generally. This project resulted in over 160 placements, with disabilities and youth clients via Mai – Wel, having multiple employment opportunities provided, placed and supported. A number of Community Projects were undertaken over the period including an Art Competition for candidates and the creation of a Diversity Calendar. The success of these initiatives was in a large way due to the active participation of the Mai –Wel Team and their clients. Multiplex have been very impressed with Mai – Wels’ professional, yet caring, approach to employment services and we fully support any opportunity for the organisation to increase organisational opportunities via ongoing tender. Multiplex and the Connectivity Centre Team thank The Mai – Wel Group for their participation in the Greenhill’s Connectivity Centre employment project and would highly recommend them to Government, employers and jobseekers moving forward. We wish them every success and are genuinely pleased to provide this reference and are happy to provide further information if required. Kindest Regards
