Wimberley Presbyterian Church Newsletter January 2012 ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ So as 2012 unfolds, it is a time to look back and to look ahead. For me and my family that is easy to do because today (December 28) is the one year anniversary of our arrival in Wimberley. We came full of hope and optimism that 2011 was going to be a good year for us and it has exceeded all of our expectations! Transitions of any kind- good or bad- have their share of stress, but you, our wonderful church family, have made this a fantastic experience for all of us. Thank you. As I look ahead to 2012, I am again filled with hope. There are life changes ahead: our daughter Renee will be married on January 7, we continue to settle in to our life here in Wimberley, and new relationships will be strengthened and others devel- oped. It is an exciting time for us. As a church, I am excited about the leadership of our session. We have an excep- tional group of women and men who possess the heart and capacity to guide our life together as a church body. I look forward to making advances in children’s ministry, adult discipleship, music, fellowship and forging our identity together in mission. What a great time to be your pastor! May your 2012 be a year of the Lord’s favor and blessing as we walk with him together into a future that has one great certainty: “Emmanuel, God with us” will be with us every step of the way! Happy New Year! Yours in Christ, Pastor Clint

So as 2012 unfolds, it is a time to look back and to look ahead. For me and my family that is easy to do because today (December 28) is the one year anniversary of our arrival in Wimberley. We came full of hope and optimism that 2011 was going to be a good year for us and it has exceeded all of our expectations! Transitions of any kind-good or bad- have their share of stress, but you, our wonderful church family, have made this a fantastic experience for all of us. Thank you.

As I look ahead to 2012, I am again filled with hope. There are life changes

ahead: our daughter Renee will be married on January 7, we continue to settle in to our life here in Wimberley, and new relationships will be strengthened and others devel-oped. It is an exciting time for us.

As a church, I am excited about the leadership of our session. We have an excep-

tional group of women and men who possess the heart and capacity to guide our life together as a church body. I look forward to making advances in children’s ministry, adult discipleship, music, fellowship and forging our identity together in mission. What a great time to be your pastor!

May your 2012 be a year of the Lord’s favor and blessing as we walk with him

together into a future that has one great certainty: “Emmanuel, God with us” will be with us every step of the way! Happy New Year!

Yours in Christ, Pastor Clint

YOUR SESSION AT WORK December, 2011

The December meeting was held on December 20. Four were absent for the holidays, and two eld-ers-elect attended. Clint opened with prayer. The session approved the November Stated Session minutes. There were no changes to the membership roles. Committee reports included Administration, which reported on Christmas bonuses granted for staff. Tom Gabrielson will receive an additional 4% in 2012, and Maria Mullins will receive $50 weekly to cover organ lessons. Buildings and Grounds replaced a heater strip in the Kitchen A/C unit. Discipleship was not happy with the November decision to serve Communion only to the Children's Church participants (in the Admin. building). The Session finally agreed that children will sit with their parents in worship on Communion Sundays. Fellowship is recommending that the Wednesday evening potlucks will be on 5th Wednesdays, or once a quarter, since committees are not using that night for meetings and gen-eral attendance has been below expectations. They requested someone take over the responsibility for themes, as that is above and beyond Fellowship's duties. The next Wednesday potluck will be the Chili Cook-off on January 11. Stewardship presented and commented on the current receipts versus budget. We are behind on income by the end of November but expect to be even by year's end. There have been 53 pledges totaling $210,498, or well ahead of last year. Final 2012 commit-tee budget requests must be in before mid-January in time for the budget to be prepared for the Re-port to the Congregation. Worship reported 159 were served Communion on December 4. Rev. Regen announced the following chairmen for Session Committees for 2012: Administration: Laura Peyton, assisted by Dallas Laumbach. Sub-committee: Tech, Matt McNeil* Buildings & Grounds: James Higgins Congregational Care: Dawn Kidd*, assisted by Sandra Gregg Discipleship: Linda Richter* Fellowship: Kari Byers*, assisted by Kim Hyde Outreach: Ron Bagby* Stewardship: Dallas Laumbach* *Continuing from 2011 Worship: Jimmy Connell Clerk of Session: David Junkin Nominating Chairman: Linda Richter New 2012 dates set: Jan. 15, present chairmen to have 2011 committee recap to clerk of session. Jan. 15, install new elders at Worship Jan. 17, Stated Session Meeting 7:00 PM (new elders only) Jan. 29, Annual Congregational meeting to approve budget and receive the Annual Report, after Worship Moderator's Report: Clint suggested Googling 'Daily Lectionary Readings' to find recom-mended personal daily readings and prayers as aids to following the Church lectionary program. He closed with prayer as dismissal.

Keith Haney, Clerk of Session

A Huge Thank You to Melanie Cagle and Pam Drake for putting together a wonderful Children’s Church Christmas Pageant on Dec. the 11th! It was enjoyed by all in-cluding the kids. They celebrated their great success with a pizza and buffalo wing party in Children’s Church and sang Happy Birthday to Jesus with cup-cakes. The Jr. High Youth will be participating in Mid-Winters at Mo Ranch Jan. 13th-15th. Our own Andy Watson has been selected to be on the planning team and the youth are very excited and looking forward to their weekend at MO Ranch to say the least. We would also like to acknowledge the hard work of Andy Watson in the Spirit of Texas Marching Band and Brenna Sturdivant for cheering during the past football season and their dedication to their school and activities. We also had quite a few of our youth that just finished up the production of Tom Jones at the Lone Star Theatre. They were Brenna Sturdivant, Hope and Nate Wil-ton, Andy and Bobby Watson. MBBS and many other congregation members were lucky enough to attend one Wednesday evening. It was a great time and the kids did an excellent job. We are just full of talented kids at WPC!! Hope everyone had a great Christmas Holiday and enjoyed their families!!
