With no match report received from the First XI again you will have to rely on my view from the touchline and West Wick-ham‘s complimentary report of the game. I have not received a report from the First XI since the 2—1 win at Actonians back in January. Come on fellas, your fans want to hear from you!
HILL ROADSHOW GOES ON Winchmore Hill maintained their faultless away record in the Southern Amateur League with a clinical 3 - 0 victory against West Wickham at Cork-screw Hill. They dominated the first 45 minutes but were only rewarded with a solitary goal when Chris Davison's shot was poorly dealt with by the host's keeper. I say poorly dealt with,
but he didn't deal with it at all, just fumbled it over the line.
The goal came from Hill pres-sure on the host's back line, preventing a decent clearance. The ball was put through to Davison on the left. Davison took the ball forward and shot left footed towards goal. It wasn't the best of strikes - had it been it would probably have rebounded from the keeper for a corner! Despite the pressure, the Hill could not add to the total and went in for the half-time team talk well satisfied.
It was not long into the second period when the lead was dou-bled following some splendid interchanges down the right flank. The ball reached Andy
Barrell who turned his man superbly and shot beneath the despairing dive of the Wickham keeper.
The two goal advantage lifted the Hill. It's not often that we have a two goal lead over Wickham and knowing that a third goal would put them out of the game we went forward to seek it.
The Hill were playing some fluent football. Debutant Simon Mason-Malleck (Dash to his fellow team-mates, because of the hyphen) had an excellent start to first team football add-ing icing to the cake with a well-taken goal. Cutting in from the left, he fired across the keeper into the far corner for a 3 - 0 Winchmore Hill lead.

Twenty-one league goals in four matches away from home. If this form had been dupli-cated at The Paulin we would be up there challenging Nottsborough.
With the youngsters coming through from the Reserves the future looks promising, but we must pick up more points from our home matches.
Next Saturday we entertain East Barnet Old Grammarians who are making good progress back in the top flight. They score plenty of goals (26) but also concede a few (22). Let's have a good crowd down next week to en-courage the boys and cheer them on to victo-ry.
West Wickham's match report (click here). Well, I don't get one from you lot, even when you win! Complementary to Danny Brennan…
Back at The Paulin the Reserves were enter-taining Carshalton and goals from Glen Has-lam, Joe Hackworthy and an own goal saw the Hill to a 3—0 victory. The Supa Threes were at Old Esthameians (eventually) where they ran out comfortable
winners by 5—2, with goals from Ben Turner (2), Nathan Allen (2) and Mark Haslam.
Goals from Josh and Paddy Madigan were enough to give the Fours three points in a 2—1 home win against Civil Service. A Terry Foskett hat-trick and a goal from Damian Bush saw the Fives to a 4—1 win at EBOG.
The Sixth XI‘s double header at Old Owens saw the Hill suffer two defeats, 4—0 and 1—0 so we won‘t go into any detail of that game.
The 7s had a friendly against Goffs Old Boys and so far I have had no result for that game.
The Eights kept their title hopes well on target with a 1—0 win against fellow contenders Old Parkonians 7s, our goal coming from Mark Darby.
The Ninth XI picked up four valuable points in their double header against Vampires, drawing 0—0 and winning 1—0 through a Darryl Martin goal.
On Sunday the Vets A XI played Sandridge, no details known and the B XI beat Stationers by 3—0, Andy Dundon, Eric Sinclair and Mike Okra getting the goals.

Southern Amateur League News Round up—Saturday 5 March
Division One West Wickham keep top spot despite losing 3—0 to Winchmore Hill at Corkscrew Hill. Old Actonians 1—5
reverse to EBOG puts them deeper into the relega-tion area and Broomfield need points to climb away from trouble after a 5—1 defeat at Old Wilsonians. Old Owens 1—0 win at Polytechnic puts them two
points behind Nottsborough who have a game in
hand.
Division Two Norsemen‘s 3—1 win against Alleyn Old Boys takes
them a step nearer a top flight return. They now have a 6 point advantage over third placed Old Par-konians who won 3—0 at Fairlop against Old Finch-
leians. Alexandra Park‘s 3—0 defeat at The Race-course leaves them struggling for survival at the bottom end of the table and the mid-table clash
between Old Esthameians and Vampires ended in a 4—2 victory for the Eastenders.
Division Three League leader Old Westminster Citizens 7—1 win
against bottom side Southgate Olympic gives the
Citz a seven point lead at the top of the table. Se-cond placed Merton were held to a 2—2 draw against Lyonians. The Old Lady are one point behind
in third place after a 1—0 win against Kew Associa-tion at Roehampton. Old Stationers beat Latymerians 2—1 and Ibis beat Lloyds TS Bank 3—1.

Football Shorts... Fab Football 2 Under 11s 1
One of the things that impressed me last Sat-urday was how much of an improvement we have made from this game compared to the last time we played Fab Football earlier on in the season.
Some teams when in a losing position would rush their game in the chase to find an equal-izer but in our case it was good to see that we still had the belief and composure to keep 'playing' despite being behind to a strong op-position. This proved to pay off in the end as we snatched an equalizer with some good play.
We will continue to practice this patient ap-proach all the way. We will also use the next two games as a preparation to help us practice and get ready for the AFA cup final and Ken Grant Cup semi final. JH
The Under 9s enjoyed a good win against Hurst Drive, demolishing the opposition 11—2.
Joshua and William Stibbs both scored, as did Omer Ferouk in the Under 12s 4—2 win against Rap Aid. No information on who got the fourth.
Cian Fox and Thomas Maher each scored for the Under 13s in the 2—2 draw against Lea Valley United.
The Under 14s suffered a 6—1 setback at Mandford Way in the Eastern Junior Alliance. The Under 15s were at home to local rivals Norsemen. Despite playing well and creating chances, the visitors stood firm and won by the only goal of the game.
The Under 16s had a comfortable 4—0 win against Hatfield Town at The Paulin.
The Under 17s beat Barking 4—0.

Winchmore Hill 3 Carshalton 0 Southern Amateur League Intermediate Section Division One Saturday 5 March
With young Danny Roche away in Rio a con-certed effort to get the match reports complet-ed is required from the twos. I take on the baton this week (mainly because I scored for the first time in over a year!)
Finally a chance to play on a decent pitch at the Paulin and all efforts were focused on con-tinuing our stay in Division One.
The pre-match banter focused mainly on the disappointing performance in last week‘s dou-ble header (apologies for no match report but imagine watching paint dry, it was about as interesting as that!) although debates contin-ued on the why's and where's of our faults it is positive that at least people actually care.
The team was changed as it always is as New-ton had to deal with pull outs and first team promotions! Congratulations to Dash who really deserves to be playing first team football his goals will certainly be missed.
So the side lined up Chevaun in goal, Beech Hackworthy Sylvester-Ajudua and Cook at the back, Kokkinos Dench Brobie and debut boy Takeshi in midfield, Broad and Haslam up front. The returning Godsalve (sickness and free rug-by tickets) joined a semi-fit Newton on the bench, combined age somewhere in the 80's for sure.
A more relaxed attitude from the twos was evident from the start and we moved the ball around well. Simple passing, trusting each oth-er and giving options to our team mates are themes that we have discussed all season and on Saturday we actually achieved this.
Chances came for Broad, Haslam and Dench as the twos dominated the opening period. Finally the breakthrough came when Haslam beat the centre half to the through ball and using his pace and strength got into a position to loft the ball over the keeper 1-0.
The twos continued to pass and move and Car-shalton never really got into the game. The couple of breaks they did have were easily dealt with by the entire back four supported well by Dench and Brobie.
Goal number two came from a great corner from Takeshi forcing the defender to volley into his own net 2-0.
The half time message was more of the same and to not allow them any chance to get back into the game. To be honest the second half performance was not as good and although Carshalton improved their possession stats they never really had a clear chance on goal.
Another dead ball situation gave the opportuni-ty for Takeshi to strike the ball with venom into the box where the unmarked Hackworthy couldn‘t miss from 6 yards, 3-0 game over.
Attention shifts to the big game on Saturday, away to Civil Service in the semifinal of the AFA cup. Over the last few years the teams have been closely matched and the games are al-ways a tight affair. This season on a windy day we lost 1-0 to a soft goal. If we play anything like we know we can we have a very good chance of reaching the final and avenging last season‘s disappointment.
Did you know? Strange but possibly true...
The horse drawn dray, carting prisoners to the gallows in the 1800s was accompanied by an
armed guard, who would stop the dray outside a pub and ask the prisoner if he would like
“one last drink.” If he said yes it was referred to as “one for the road” . If he declined,
that prisoner was “on the wagon”.
They used to use urine to tan animal skins, so families used to all pee in a pot and then
once a day it was taken and sold to the local tannery. If you had to do this to survive you
were “piss poor”. But worse that that were the really poor folk who couldn‘t even afford to
buy a pot. They “Didn’t have a pot to piss in.”
On the box.. On TV at the Club for you to watch whilst enjoying a pint or two…

Season 2010-2011 Page Seven x
The Supa‘s have been on the wrong end of some shocking cock-ups this year when it comes to travel arrangements for away games. Firstly there was the case of the Irish Sat Nav at West Wickham in the SAL cup, in which the kit arrived after kick off time because it was busy taking part in the Lord Mayor‘s parade ...we lost 4-0
Secondly we were sent to the urban delights of Gunnersbury Park rather than the lawns of Actonians home pitch, before being told 5 minutes prior to kick off and then having the team march across the North Circular, fully kitted, to arrive against one of the league‘s better team without a decent warm up....we lost 4-0
Thirdly was Saturday away to Old Es-tahmeians....the Supa‘s arrived en masse an hour before kick off....at the wrong place. The gaffer asked for directions last week, and hav-ing been given a wrong address over e-mail...Nathan , trying to help the cause, invent-ed in his head, and GOOGLE, the Memorial Ground Walthamstow...there isn‘t one! See link
Eleven of us turned up on time at Wadham Lodge......A quick analysis of the various Sat Nav‘s determined the real ground was actually 5 miles away in Canning Town....so off we journeyed to the East End for some Pie Mash, Jellied eels and a singsong round the old Joan-na! As the excellent preparation continued Symesie trashed his wife‘s car into the back of a stationary BMW whilst resetting his sat nav.
Arriving 5 minutes before kickoff this was one game we mustn‘t lose 4-0.....the best changing rooms in the league gave us hope of playing on a similar standard pitch...our hopes were dashed very quickly however when we realised this was a rugby ground with football goals. We started the game well enough, not allowing the younger opponents time to settle. This all changed when after 20 mins their winger picked up the ball on the edge of the area and hit a dream shot crashing in off of the cross bar leaving debutant Collins junior with no chance whatsoever, the gaffa was dead proud to be playing in the same side as his son who was picked on merit and did more than
held his own, although it is a bit scary for all of us when a kid who used to come and watch us when he was too young to do the warm up, starts, plays well and yet is older than some of the opposition, pegs, boots, hangers – you do the math. The goal kicked the Hill into action and before half time, some fairly decent football lead to goals for Turner and Nathan to take us into the break two one up! With Dirty Den and Grant Mitchell watching from the side-lines, Old Esthameians pressured Hill for the first five minutes of the second half, but then Nathan was put through on the wing and having seen his initial shot saved, he fired the rebound into an empty net. Improved play from the Hill then followed seeing Turner fire in the fourth. To their credit Old E‘s, never gave up and the Hill were thankful to Sam for making some fine saves and good handling. However, slack de-fending from a corner allowed Old Es to sneak a second and ensured a lively final 20 minutes. At this stage, with Michael Caine offering coaching from the side-lines a la Escape to Victory, the Gaffa brought on Joe at full back and we saw the welcome return of Hassie and it was the little terrier who finally finished off Es ending a move involving Nathan and Ben, that finally put the game to bed finishing well at the far post. We made tough work of this one......and with away games to Nottsborugh, Alleyns and EBOGS still to come, someone needs to buy an A to Z! MOM has to go to Sam in goal for some excellent saves. The attaching three linked exceptionally at times, and the midfield trio battled well! The defence did what we needed to do with the knowledge that tougher times await. The title is still a possibil-ity with Wickham losing Saturday. Nottsbo-rugh , EBOGS and Owns all still have a part to play as they have dropped the fewest points, but they all have another half of the season still to play including games against each other. This division won‘t be settled until late April methinks! So the pre-match analysis was ‗let‘s get the f#ck out of here‘ , and we did, leaving Captain Collins singing Roll Out the Barrell with Mad Frankie Fraser, as we left the Olympic District behind us.
Old Esthameians 2 Winchmore Hill 5 Southern Amateur League Junior Section Division One Saturday 5 March
Did you know? Strange but possibly true 2… Bread was divided according to status. Workers got the burnt bottom of the loaf, the family got
the middle and guests got the top, or “The Upper Crust”.

Page Eight
The message before the game on Saturday was ―don‘t lose this one!‖...and we did-n‘t......but it felt like we did after a game of spurned opportunities which saw West Wick-ham head back to England‘s first county with a point....
Top of the league Wickham versus second placed Hill was always going to be tight and on the top pitch at the Paulin, the two sides both provided a half decent game of football on a rather slippery and muddy pitch…
Lining up, for once the Hill seemed to have a slight aerial advantage on Wickham, but the obvious downside to this was that the Wickham side was packed with ball players to test the Hill‘s pacey central defenders! The Hill had the better of the early exchanges, with Ben going close twice before half time , at the other end, Wickham tested Rotsa with a fine volley that the Turk keeper tip over the bar....
Hill then took the lead....a corner was headed clear to An Rui who (according the Wickham lads) caught the ball, span it on his middle finger before placing it down and firing home from 20 yards....1-0 to the Hill, in actual fact it was a great strike which left the excellent keeper stranded.....the rest of the first half was fairly even, with the main talking point being the Wickham centre forward taking out our Wonder Turk in goal (an event that eventually saw Harry in A&E later that night nursing two broken ribs)
The second half start started with Wickham piling on early pressure, their quick right wing-er bringing out the best in Friendy. However after 5 minutes Hill gave away a needless free-kick on the edge of the box. The wall seemed to be set the wrong side, the shot found the gap and after a horrible deflection left Rotsa with no chance....1-1....
Both sides then pressed forward in search of the winner....Wickham having more of the game but the Hill having all of the clear cut chances each of which were saved by the ex-cellent youngster in the Wickham goal.
That‘s about all that can be said from a rather ―enjoyable to play in but not great to watch match‖...welcome returns for Hassie and Lodge and goodbye to Alan who‘s off to star in Home and Away with his brother Declan!
MOM is a tight one between the excellent Reed, tireless Turner and fruitloop Turk. The Ayatollah had his best game of the year saving all Wickham threw at him and commanding the area very well....hopefully he won‘t be out too long. The younger players are learning new words from him each week and his moaning makes it all the more bearable for us to go home to our wives!

Did you know? Strange but possibly true 3… It is said that 1 out of 25 coffins used to have scratch marks on the inside caused by burying
people before they were pronounced dead. So they would tie string on the wrist of the corpse
and hook it to a bell. Someone would sit out in the graveyard all night (“The Graveyard
Shift” ) to listen for the bell: this someone could be, “Saved by the bell” or was considered
to be a “Dead ringer”.

Nothing this week—but will continue….
Southgate Olympic 2 Winchmore Hill 0
Winchmore Hill 5 Southgate Olympic 3 Southern Amateur League Minor Section Division Four (North) Saturday 26 February (Double Header)
Match One It was the strange phenomenon of the double header for the 8s fixture at Southgate Olympic on a very heavy pitch that would test both teams physically and mentally.
The first game started with Southgate playing the much better football and dominating the play in all areas of the pitch, this was the sign of things to come for the rest of the game really, with the Hill penned in their own half only managing a few counter attacks and a decent volley from outside the box from Tony McKinnon stinging the keepers hands only to parry the ball to safety. The half time whistle blew and the Hill trudged off the quagmire 1-0 down.
Heads were down and all the excuses came out during the break, but the main factor was attitude and passion clearly lacking.
The second half was pretty much a carbon copy as the first half as Southgate doubled there lead and took control of the half.
To be fair the Hill played the better football in the last ten minutes battling to restore some pride, but time ran out us and we were forced to except we would come away with nothing from the first game.
Match Two A complete change of attitude would be re-quired if we were going to get anything out of the next game, two pairs of fresh legs were introduced to liven things up.
If it was possible things went from bad to worse and before we knew it we were 3-0 down with the second coming from a dubious
penalty, then Dean Borley had a perfectly good goal ruled out for off side.
The off side ruling would turn out to be a piv-otal part of the game for the Hill as disap-pointment turned into eagerness and passion.
In the space of five minutes it was 2-3 with Dean Borley beating the offside trap to slot the first home, It was Dean again with an exquis-ite lob from the edge of the box to reduce the deficit and going into the break on a positive note.
Everyone was really up for the second half and all memories of the first game were now dis-tant, we took control from start pressing for that equalizer.
The leveler came when Mick orme was put through on the right wing, seeing the keeper off his line Mick gambled and swung in a shot from way out which looped over the keeper to find the top corner, 3-3.
The Hill were well in control now with wave after wave of attacking play, our fourth goal, that would see us going into the lead for the first time in the day was well worked as Peter Cooper ran down the right wing to put a per-fectly weighted pass into the path of Phil Hughes who finished well and gave the keeper no chance with the ball smashing into the side netting.
Our fifth goal was made out of nothing from our star man Paul Baker, Paul weaved into the box and turned three defenders inside out to smash in his 20th of the season and cement the Hill‘s victory.
Did you know? Strange but possibly true 4… Houses had thatched roof, thick straw piled high, with no wood underneath. It was the only
place for animals to get warm, so all the cats and other small animals (mice, bugs) lived in the
roof. When it rained it became slippery and sometimes the animals would slip and fall off the
roof. Hence the saying, “It’s raining cats and dogs.”

Old Wilsonians 5 Broomfield 1 BROOMS CROSSED OUT Broomfield gave a wretched defensive perfor-mance leaking five goals away at Old Wilsonians fine Kent venue, which disconcertingly leaves the team perilously close to the relegation zone.
Old Wilsonians high tempo game initially upset Brooms who conceded two early goals from well delivered crosses, thus giving the away side a mountain to climb.
Brooms best period was just before half time, when they created a number of good chances but sadly their ineffective attack failed to capitalise on.
Things might have been different when just before half time; Jamie Wildman was obviously pushed inside the penalty area, only to see the referee frustratingly award a free kick fractionally outside the area.
Brooms hopes of a come-back were quickly extin-guished imediately after the restart when Brooms failed to defend a mundane cross to concede a poor goal.
Simon Pope raised brief hopes with a goal direct from a long range free-kick, but Wilsionian imme-diately hit back when yet another cross was poorly defended by Brooms.
Apart from the hard working midfield duo of Tom Givens and Simon Pope the rest of the youthful Brooms side looked somewhat dispirited and it was no surprise to see the home side add a fifth to complete a miserable afternoon for the Blues. The Blue Onlooker
Ibis 3 Lloyds TS Bank 1 Asked for a good performance on Saturday. Got it.
Really good win against Lloyds fellas and one we can be proud of as, amazingly, it is our first victory of 2011! We picked up where we left off against Old Westminster Citizens and although there was a bit of rustiness having not played for two weeks (just me then?), there were lots of good displays right across the pitch.
We only have three games left now but being the demanding bugger I am, I want to win all three which is not an outlandish desire. Based on Satur-day's performance we should be more than capa-ble of picking up nine points and improving on last season's total of 30. The most pleasing thing for me on the weekend was that we responded to what was needed in the second half and ironed out the creases of our first-half display.
That is not to say we played badly in the first peri-od. Without the missing Andy Edge we withstood an early spell of pressure by Lloyds to get the
down on the deck and it wasn't long before we had them on the back foot. Shrugging off his man-ly flu to be here, there and everywhere, Kal then popped up in the opposition penalty box to deliver the opening goal after he was put through by Dan. That seemed to settle us a bit and Dan also went close with a free-kick which curled past the post.
Our passing wasn't the best it has been this sea-son and we were complicating things with some poor decisions and my inability to trap a bag of cement, but the important thing is we were bat-tling all over the pitch. And after a good interlude we began to fix our problems, keeping the ball simple and spreading it wide.
This also allowed our ramapaging full-back Ben to burst down the line and after getting a few sniffs of goal, our very own Pythagoras (look it up Ben) lobbed the keeper from the acutest of angles. Or it might have been a cross. Either way it seemed to settle us further and we were helped when Ibis Action Man Tom Buttress came on to help add some solidity in the middle of the park and by Phil's constant energy up front always keeping them stretched.
Soon after, having given up on trying to pass to someone in same coloured shirt as him, Rocky produced a pirouette that would not have looked out of place in Swan Lake to seal the points. And the only sour note was when Sam decided he loved their striker a bit too much and gave him a hug in the penalty box without asking first. It showed how much we dominated the second half that Tom picking the ball out of the net from the resulting penalty was one of the few things he had to do.
All in all, it was a very good performance and one we can be very pleased with. The only problem we have is that according to the SAL website we do not have a game on Saturday. So I would ask you all to make an effort to keep your fitness up by getting down training and making yourselves avail-able for our other teams Saturday.
Lastly, Lloyds have asked if we would like to play them at their place on Easter Saturday. Can you let me know if it works for you or not?

Merton 2 Old Lyonians 2 The points were shared in a hard fought draw – on a football pitch, that was best summed up by Merton striker Jason who could not understand the lack of a hippo wallerring in the centre circle.
Needless to say conditions were difficult, Merton started the brighter and created some good early chances (Wilgo & Woody combining well). Ash

[Well, I don’t seem

our sides]
Adams opened the scoring for the home team with a moment of brilliance - as he acrobatical-ly overhead kicked the ball - in off the post from a good Alan Clowes cross.
Merton then pressed the all too familiar self-destruct button. For those that don‘t know this entails – carelessness in possession, dwelling on the ball and refusal to pass early to some-one in space! Old Lyonians capitalised, broke away and scored after an incisive move. Old Lyonians then took the lead when they sprung an offside trap and took advantage of some generous (what we call stand off) defending that ensured their striker - who by now had slipped & fallen over himself at least twice, had time to get to his feet to shoot past Oaksey on a one on one.
Merton upped their game and were better in the second half, quicker on the ball and more incisive. Within five minutes of the re-start good pressing had ensured a surprise turnover of possession and Jason was duly brought down in the area. Penalty – and Woody made no mistake 2-2. And that is how it stayed. Old Lyonians were gifted a penalty with twenty minutes to go but Oaksey saved brilliantly – and earned Merton a deserved point. Femi had Merton‘s best chance in the closing minutes but missed a guilt edged header after an excel-lent corner from Cotters (Essex). The penalty save aside (thanks Oaksey) Merton will be dis-appointed not to have turned their pressure into what would have been a handy win. Credit to Old Lyonians who have a much improved side and played well to secure a point! AFA Surrey & Kent Senior Cup Semi Final Nottsborough 6 Weirside Rangers 2 Violet master class! At the third time of asking this Surrey/Kent semi final took place on the not so flat lawns of Tolworth on Saturday. Weirside, who have been doing well in Division 2, came to the Uni-versity ground with a lot of belief but ultimate-ly they were well beaten thanks to a nap hand from Nathan Violet.
There was a lot of action in this game for a semi-final and it was played at quite a frantic pace. There were 8 goals, 2 superb saves, a sending off, two shots against the woodwork, and a couple of goal-line clearances. Who said semi finals are tense boring affairs?
With Andy Parrott unavailable Arren Sutcliffe announced a first start for Chris Kerr since his injury in September. Also back was Michael Classen after a hamstring injury, although he was kept back for the last 20 minutes. Chris Apaloo returned up front with Alex Ewin, but it was Nathan Violet from the left wing who was involved in all six goals.
Weirside were pretty late in coming out of the changing rooms and they could easily have been 2 down within the first 5 minutes as Matt Kerr and Alex Ewin both stabbed hurried shots against the Weirside keeper when a sharper reaction might have put Nottsborough ahead. Anyway an early lead was not long in coming as Alex Ewin, not for the last time, was fouled 25 yards out. Nathan Violet took the free kick and his low daisy cutter got through the wall and past the unsighted keeper on 9 minutes. Nottsborough were well on top at this stage and were looking dangerous down the right through Dan McEwan and the overlapping Ben Hickes. On 18 minutes Nottsborough increased their lead as Nathan Violet exchanged passes and rather scuffed a low first time finish inside the post.
Weirside now got their game going and started to look a real threat at the other end. Parker had to clear off the line, whilst both Hickes and Matt Kerr did well to block close range volleys for corners. Ashley was called on to make his first save as he pushed aside another shot from the left hand side, and then came well to punch clear a dangerous corner. This was quite a crucial phase of the game. Nottsborough put together a super passing move involving Chris Kerr and the Nottsborough midfielder finished the move with a hurried shot against the left hand upright that would probably have settled things. At the other end Nottsborough gave away a needless free kick and from the result-ing corner an inswinger from the Weirside right corner flag saw one of the Weirside players get in front of the normally dominant Parker and flick a header past Ashley. Violet cleared off the line but linesman John Doe ruled that it had crossed the line to make it 2-1 on 30 minutes. Nottsborough bounced back and Weirside were quite lucky not to have a man sent off as Apaloo raced free inside the Weir-side half and was caught by the last man who was lucky to get away with just a yellow card. This time Violet‘s free kick was blocked by the wall but the hat-trick was just moments away as the Weirside defence opened up and Na-than Violet breaking into the inside left channel got through on the keeper and dinked a little chip over the diving keeper and inside the far post on 36 minutes. 3-1 at half time.
The second half started with a fantastic save from the Weirside keeper. Alex Ewin really caught hold of a right foot volley that was fly-ing inside the far post about 4 feet up when somehow the keeper got way over to his right to deflect the ball behind for a corner with a strong hand. Nottsborough snatched their fourth goal following an amazing mazy dribble by Chris Apaloo on 57 minutes. Apaloo almost determined to walk the ball into the net was

saved the problem as Nathan Violet stepped in and despatched the ball inside the left hand post to put Nottsborough 4-1 up. At the other end Dan Ashley pulled off a really good save as well as Sutcliffe gave the ball away and a Weir-side player raced to the edge of the box forcing Ashley to swoop to his right and just tip the ball past the post. Chris Kerr than smacked a shot inside the 6 yard box against the bar when it was easier to score.
At this point Nottsborough were making chang-es. Ross Newell came on for Dan McEwan, James Sims replaced Ben Hickes, and Michael Classen came on for Apaloo with Violet finally pushed up top. Weirside lost their centre half with a red card after a needless foul on Classen and he was quite lucky to be on the pitch so long after his foul in the first half. Nottsborough really started to put their passing game togeth-er at this point and put the game out of Weir-side‘s reach when a good move ended with a deep Violet cross and Matt Kerr burying a
header on the far post on 75 minutes. Weirside pulled a good goal back themselves as Sutcliffe got caught under a long ball and a Weirside forward got away well and finished neatly to make it 5-2. This was just a pre-amble to the goal of the game as Chris Kerr got Notts-borough passing the ball around deep inside their half. Sims started the move off with a switch at the back and probably every Notts-borough player got a touch on the ball as Nottsborough moved the ball from side to side. The move finished with Nathan Violet stepping forward to grab his fifth with a calm finish on 86 minutes, putting him on 14 goals for the season.
So once again Nottsborough make the Surrey/Kent final and they await their opponents from either Old Salesians or Alleyn Old Boys. Having been beaten in the last 2 finals perhaps this year is Nottsborough‘s.
Only one man of the match Nathan Violet.

Season 2010-2011 Page Seventeen x
Our winter break proved to have been more detrimental than beneficial; perhaps we should have coupled the break with some warm weather training as well!
Although the scoreline was slightly flattering to Winchmore Hill it was certainly not one of our better performances, we failed to create many clear cut chances until the final 10 minutes when we were already 3 goals adrift.
Hills first goal midway through the first half was a perfectly placed free kick which went in via the foot of the post, but with us trailing only by the one goal at the break we hoped for better things in the second half.
However our passing didn't really improve after the interval with numerous straight forward
passes going astray, perhaps the pitch was too flat, perhaps the ball was too round.....perhaps we're just too old and have lost control of our limbs!
Anyway a second Hill goal with 20 minutes left (coming 30 seconds after Mick Kassie had been substituted… purely coincidental surely) and another from a header 10 minutes later killed the game off for us.
There was still time for Fuller to miss the target by a yard from a yard, although he would ar-gue that the way the team had been playing he did well to get it that close. Good games from Mr Dependable Jim Townsend at the back and Kevin Spence up front who worked tire-lessly for the cause.

Table Tennis latest update (28 February)...
The Second Team continue their winning ways. They travelled away and beat Totten-ham 3 of Trish Beasley,Lee Bartrop and Robin Smythe 8-1 with the two Michaels Lynch and O'Leary winning 3 each and Simon Jameson losing the one to Robin.
They then went to Bush Hill Park and had an-other 8-1 win against perpetual motion Ron Sears the big hitting John Trim and the dimin-utive but tenacious Larraine Harris. Michael Lynch and Simon won 3 each and Bri-an Price won the other two losing to John. On Wednesday 23rd February they had a home match against Ellenborough 11. This was always going to be a difficult match which was made even more so owing to fact that after 3 months the curtains were still not up. Ellenborough had some fast young hitters which with the poor background [almost total-ly white]made it not easy to sight the white ball. Ryan Williams who is only 12 won all 3 for the opposition and Andre Thompson beat Michael O'Leary. Simon Jameson and Michael Lynch won two each to give us a 5-4 win. The team is well positioned in second place with games in hand.
The Third team went to Ellenborough on Fri-day 25th February to play their 12th team. They are bottom of the league so we were expecting a win. However Bernie McIn-tyre could not play so Richard Clooke was called in to make his debut for the Hill. We stormed into a 4-0 lead with Harold Webb winning sets 1 and 4, Alex Holly winning set 2 and Richard winning set 3 against their captain Goerge Brown 11-8 in the fifth. Richard then lost to the wily Peter Theobalds and Alex found George a bit of a handfull. Richard beat Joan Bayman and Harold beat George 11-9 in the fifth.
Peter beat Alex but the team recorded a 6-3 win That is 6 wins in the trot.
In the North Middlesex League's Closed Tour-nament held at Ellenborough during week commencing 14th February Harold reached the Final of the Division 3/4 Singles only to lose to 12 year old Ryan Williams 12-10,11-6, 9-11,14-16 and 11-4.
Youth had a good tournament with a 16 year, Bradley Tuttle from Ellenborough winning the Open Singles against 12 year old Vincent Stacey also form Ellenborough.

Did you know? Strange but possibly true 5… The next time you wash your hands and complain because the water isn‘t hot enough, think
about how things used to be. In the 1500s most people got married in June because they took
their yearly bath in May, and they still smelled pretty good by June! However, since they were
starting to smell, brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odour. Hence the custom
today of carrying a bouquet when getting married.
