SCALABLE MULTI-GRAPHIC VIDEOWALL PROCESSOR SYSTEM

Introduction

The Extron WindoWall® Pro System is a powerful and versatile, yet user-friendly approach for multi-display videowall systems. It features a highly scalable architecture that delivers optimum performance and reliability. Full HDCP compliance at all HDMI inputs and outputs assures worry-free presentation of protected content. WindoWall Pro is also available with four optional HDMI inputs and includes an HDMI background input connection, which enables live video from an HDMI source to be used as a background to any presentation. WindoWall Console software is the user interface to the system, facilitating intuitive, straightforward control and configuration of videowall systems, and the creation of presentations with multiple, independent windows for displaying graphics, HDTV, and video. WindoWall Pro is an ideal choice for applications that require highly reliable, multi-window videowall systems.

Distributed Video ProcessingWindoWall Pro employs a distributed video processing architecture that dedicates a separate high resolution graphics processor to each projector, video cube, or flat-panel monitor in the videowall system. Each WindoWall Pro processor allows for the display of up to four windows, each of which can show video, HDTV, or high resolution computer-video content. It employs proven Extron video processing technologies to deliver a fully optimized, high quality video output. The WindoWall Pro processor is compatible with virtually any available display and outputs high resolution video at resolutions up to 1920x1200, including HDTV 1080p/60 and 2K.

Because a discrete, real-time processor is dedicated to each display unit in the videowall, WindoWall Pro is fully scalable, supporting a wide variety of display layouts from 1x2 to 3x2 and larger. An Extron CrossPoint® Ultra, CrossPoint 450 Plus, or HDMI matrix switcher is required when distributing input sources to the WindoWall Pro processors.

Key Minder®

To enhance and simplify integration of sources and displays, WindoWall Pro features Key Minder, an Extron-exclusive technology. For HDMI signals with protected content, Key Minder authenticates and maintains continuous HDCP encryption between input and output devices to ensure quick and reliable switching in professional AV environments. When receiving an HDCP-encrypted HDMI input source, WindoWall Pro displays a green window on any video output connected to a non-HDCP compliant display. This provides immediate visual confirmation that protected content cannot be viewed on the display.

WindoWall Console SoftwareWindoWall Console software brings all of the WindoWall Pro processors and the matrix switcher together via TCP/IP and provides the tools and features to set up, create, and manage videowall presentations with up to four windows per display or video cube unit. The software includes intuitive Wizards that take the user step-by-step through the process of setting up a videowall and then configuring all input sources and the matrix switcher to be used in the system.

Once setup is complete, customized window layouts can be created with the aid of a virtual canvas that lets you size and position windows anywhere as they would be shown on the videowall display. A static or live background display behind the windows adds a theme to the videowall presentation. Window layouts can be saved to 100 available memory presets for future recall.

Videowall Product Commissioning Service

Videowalls are among the most complex of the AV presentation systems in use today, and must run reliably and continuously under demanding conditions. Extron provides the Videowall Product Commissioning Service as an economical way of ensuring that an Extron WindoWall Pro System is ready for operation after installation and is fully optimized to the customer’s satisfaction.

Videowall Product Commissioning is a proactive, on-site service offered by Extron to help you ensure that the WindoWall Pro videowall processor system that you design or install meets your specifications for performance, and those of your customer, prior to the system going into full operation. Once the AV system integrator has completed installation and testing of the system, an Extron Engineer will spend one or two days on site to provide system optimization and training on system operation.

Extron Videowall Commissioning Includes:• Pre-installation design review services• Pre- and post-installation window layout optimization• One to two days on site with an Extron Engineer• On-site system optimization of dozens of image parameters• Validation of processor control• WindoWall Console software training for the system operator

DISTRIBUTED PROCESSING ARCHITECTURE

In the WindoWall Pro System, one multi-window graphics processor is employed for each display or videowall cube. The WindoWall Console software manages and synchronizes the operation of all WindoWall Pro processors over TCP/IP. With this distributed processing architecture, WindoWall Pro ensures continuous operational reliability in mission-critical applications. At the same time, with each WindoWall Pro processor precisely configured and calibrated, every display receives the highest quality images.

WindoWall Pro works together with an Extron matrix switcher such as CrossPoint Ultra, SMX, DMS, DXP, or XTP®. The matrix switcher is controlled and managed by the WindoWall Console software and serves as the central access point for input sources to the videowall system.

WindoWall Console

WindoWall Console Software

WindoWall Console is the software and user interface for setting up, configuring, and managing the WindoWall Pro System. WindoWall Console includes a series of step-by-step Wizards so that an integrator can get a videowall system up and running without complex setup procedures or programming. From there, the system operator can access the software and, with the aid of a virtual canvas, create videowall presentations with full control over the quantity, content, sizing, placement, and style of windows within the videowall display.

Setup Wizards

Each Wizard walks the installer through the process necessary to expedite videowall system setup. As an individual step or procedure of the Wizard is completed, WindoWall Console communicates with all WindoWall Pro processors and the Extron matrix switcher, automatically configuring them as necessary.

The Setup Wizard allows the installer to quickly specify the videowall display configuration, set mullion compensation, assign IP addresses to the WindoWall Pro processors and the matrix switcher, and specify incoming sources to the system.

The Auto-Image™ Wizard sets up all WindoWall Pro processors to properly receive, sample, and process signals from all incoming sources. Auto-Image, a powerful feature that greatly reduces the time necessary to set up an Extron video processor, analyzes an incoming video signal, and then automatically sets essential pixel sampling and phasing parameters. Simply select the input sources for Auto-Image setup, and the rest is automatic.

In most cases, Auto-Image will yield great image performance on a videowall system. Performance can be fully optimized, when necessary, by running the Pixel Phasing Wizard, which guides the installer through the steps and procedures necessary to fully calibrate pixel phase for each WindoWall Pro processor in the system.

WindoWall Console

Virtual Canvas

With installation and setup of the WindoWall Pro System complete, the integrator or system operator can begin designing presentations to be shown on the videowall. A large virtual canvas provides a visual on-screen layout of the videowall and its subdivisions. Windows may be added to the videowall by simply dragging and dropping input sources onto the canvas. Each source is shown as a window icon, and once dragged onto the canvas, may be sized and positioned anywhere. The large area bordering the videowall serves as a “staging” area for windows to be added to, removed from, or prepared for placement on the videowall.

Changes to the multi-window layout can be viewed real-time on the videowall

display. The software allows for a wide range of adjustments and enhancements in customizing the layout, including:

• Window sizing and positioning• Sizing, positioning, and zooming of

images within the window• Window caption labels• Window background color and border

As adjustments are made, WindoWall Console works with the WindoWall Pro processors so that they automatically apply the necessary signal processing to ensure consistent, high quality images everywhere on the videowall.

WindoWall Pro allows for up to 100 custom videowall configurations to be saved for future recall.

In sophisticated, large-scale environments, such as local, state, and federal agency chambers, visualization labs, and network operations and command and control centers, the sheer size and scope of a 3x2 videowall enables the simultaneous monitoring of numerous live camera or broadcast feeds, high resolution graphics, and other media. Sources with digital video outputs can be accommodated by deploying a WindoWall Pro DI along with an Extron XTP CrossPoint 3200 Matrix Switcher. Since these applications are often dynamic and constantly changing as new, unanticipated situations arise, WindoWall Pro allows the system operator to make real-time modifications to the videowall presentation as needed.
