Meet the Teacher

• This is my 10th year of teaching at Winn Holt. I have taught Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten during the past 19 years.

• I graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Education. I have also received a Degree in Early Childhood Education when I was teaching in Florida.

• I grew up in Central Illinois and currently live in Lawrenceville with my husband John, and my sons, Jeffrey and David. We also have a cat named Alex.

-manipulating materials that give meaning to terms such as smaller, larger, more, less, equal to as well as positional words

-Learning that oral telling of stories can be written.

-Drawing pictures to illustrate their stories.

-Learning to write their name correctly, using capital letter for the first letter and lower case letters for the rest of the name.

-Using phonetic “inventive” spelling, sight words and environmental print in stories.

-Sentences start with a capital letter, followed by lower case letters and end with punctuation with spaces between words.

-Identifying letter by name (uppercase, lower case and sound) in random order.

Word Study

•We will have a new poem each week. With the poem we will be working on phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, comprehension, fluency, and other skills each week.

•Each week a list of words will be sent home for you and your child to practice. The poem will be included as well.

•Please review the reading words for the week daily. We will have a reading test each Friday.

• By the end of the school year we will cover 100 words!
