Special thanks to Smith & Wesson for continuing to sponsor the Regional Series and revolver shooting for 22 years!

The Cylinder’s Turn: Winter 2013 P2

The event combined the four ICORE Postal stages and a fifth 31-round long course stage with pepper poppers, plates, bobber, and classic IPSC targets. An all steel bi-gun medium course was the side event, where shooters engaged six targets with a pump shotgun, then switched to their gun of choice for twelve more.

The crew earned a post-match rest over a superb dinner while Col. Vettoraz Prosecco wine flowed in large quantities! Although a last-minute date change ended up in a lower turnout, challenging the match budget, Fabio and Daniele, match organizers, claim that the smiling faces of the

participants was the most appreciated return.

ICORE REGIONAL SERIES CONTEST WINNERS 2012

~ John Maxwell, ICORE Chairman ~

Just how were those winners selected? ICORE members were extracted from the participants in the eight Regional matches of 2012. Only members whose memberships were current at the time they competed in at least one stage of a Regional, or who competed and renewed/joined within three weeks of the match were entered into the random number pool. The total count was 391 members, including multiple entries for those members who shot in multiple Regionals or who competed with more than one revolver in a single Regional.

The list of eligible members was randomly shuffled. A random number service (http://www.random.org) was used to provide four numbers within the range of 1 to 391. Resulting numbers were matched to the shuffled list to identify the selected recipients of the Smith & Wesson certificates. Thanks to all of the competitors who competed in the Regional Series across the USA and Australia! Finally, the winners…..

LOCATION. The IRC will be held again at the Hogue Range, 3270 Gilardi Road, San Luis Obispo, CA 93405. EARLY BIRD. The early bird match fee is $200, but it will go up to $250 on April 1. Everyone who registers before May 15 will get a free t-shirt. However, I cannot get them printed after May 15, so be sure to get your application in before then so you can get your free 2013 IRC T-shirt. SQUADS. When you submit your application, please include a list of shooters with whom you would like to be squadded. No squad may have more than 10 shooters, so get your requests in asap. Everyone will be assigned a squad with a shooting schedule. You must shoot your assigned stages when you are scheduled to shoot them with the squad you are assigned to—no exceptions! If you have chosen to start on Friday AM, you will shoot 6 stages on Friday morning and 6 stages on Saturday afternoon. If you have chosen to start on Friday PM, you will shoot 6 stag-es on Friday afternoon and 6 stages on Saturday morning. Those shooting 2 guns will be assigned a squad and will shoot all 12 stages on Friday with their first gun (awards and prize gun), and they will also be assigned another squad to shoot all 12 stages on Saturday with their second gun. We will not permit any form of squad jumping. SECOND GUNS. All Second Gun entries qualify for Special Recognition Categories only and will not walk the prize table or receive class awards. Match Disqualification with First Gun ends your shooting for the match. If you have a Match Disqualification with your Second Gun, your first gun score will stand. You will be assigned to and shoot all stages with a special squad that shoots all the stages with first gun on Friday and all the stages with the second gun on Saturday. CHRONOGRAPH. We will be checking everyone’s match ammo with a chronograph per ICORE rules. The chrono-graph will be on a bay with a stage and will be part of the shooting schedule. TROPHIES. 1st-3rd will be awarded for GM-D in all three divisions, Open, Limited, and Classic. We will also be awarding 1st place trophies for the following special recognition categories: International, 6-shot revolver, Senior, Super Senior, Lady, and Junior. Second guns are eligible for two special recognition categories: snubby and 6-shot, but are not eligible for other awards or prizes. PRIZE TABLE. Prizes will be awarded in order of finish. If you are fortunate enough to choose a firearm from the table, you must be an ICORE member to claim it. Pat Hogue will be handling all the FFL duties at the match. CLASSIFIER MATCH. You are welcome to shoot a classifier match on Thursday. You may shoot it for practice, to receive a classification, or to improve your classification. FAR AND NEAR STANDARDS. This will be shot with the traditional par times. Once again, Hogue has generously agreed to give $1000 to anyone who can “zero” the stage! SHOOT-OFF MATCH: On Sunday, we will have the traditionally exciting head-to-head steel shoot-off match with cash prizes for all three divisions! INTERNATIONAL COMPETITORS. You may request an invitation letter by sending in your application with match fees. Include a request for an invitation letter with your application. RANGE OFFICERS. Full time Range Officers will shoot all 12 stages on Thursday, and will work the same stage on Friday and Saturday. They shoot for free and will receive two special polo shirts and an appreciation gift after the match. We also need 15-20 part-time Range Officers who will shoot the match for half-price and receive a special polo shirt and an appreciation gift after the match. They will shoot with a squad like all other shooters, but they will work as ROs the other half of the two days.

California Wheel Burners — http://www.cawheelburners.com/

On a warm summer day (in November) The Wheel Burners held a post-Thanksgiving ICORE match. We re-shot the Postal match and added a Turkey Shoot stage designed by the infamous Ron Williamson. Ron used 3 clamshells, a Texas Star, 2 plate racks, and enough reactive steel to sink the legendary battleship. This stage used up nearly as much ammo as the rest of the stages combined, and was evil, difficult, and fun.

Match winner Mike Sorensen helped to coach Linda Sanders, who is just learning our sport, to very respectable scores. Ron Joslin grabbed an impressive stage win from Mike, and other than a few gun and ammo problems, everyone had a good time.

Thanks to Paul for volunteering to host and score the 2012 Postal Match!

FROM AUSTRALIA INTERNATIONAL POSTAL MATCH 2001-2012 The 2012 ICORE I.P.M. resulted in a record 450 scores being submitted. The match has grown from 170 in 2001, its year of inception, to the 450 scores we have now.

Vic Pickett ran the first I.P.M. with the idea to give revolver shooters from anywhere in any country the opportunity to compete against each other. There are many revolvers shooters out there who only compete at Club level and do not participate in matches away from their home club, so the I.P.M. gives them the opportunity to compete with revolver shooters of all abilities from any country.

Ron Williamson took over running this match until 2005, with the format being 4 stages, a maximum of 15m (to cater for indoor ranges), and a balance in the stage procedures that required a fair spread of skill sets representative of challenges that one may come across as an ICORE shooter. I believe the match ran from October 1 to December during Ron’s tenure as Match Director.

I took over running the I.P.M. in 2006 until now. The changes during this time have included “Classic” division, a longer shooting period, and the encouragement of shooters to compete in more than one Division or to submit multiple scores in one Division.

The additional match time of August 1 to December 31 allows for shooters from both the Northern & Southern hemispheres to compete during the warmer months. You may or may not realize, but it’s no fun shooting in the rain and running around with mud underfoot, so the longer period in which to shoot the match does give one options. A longer shooting period also gives shooters the opportunity to shoot the match in one Division more than once or to shoot in multiple divisions.

2012 POSTAL MATCH RESULTS The 2012 match IPM saw 450 scores submitted and a lot of shooters who used the opportunity to shoot one Division on more than one occasion.

Naturally this match would not go ahead without the Club coordinators. This dedicated bunch made the effort to run the match at their various Clubs for you to enjoy, so special thanks to them. These are Club members who continue to devote countless hours setting up match stages, be it Postal or regular Club match. Without their

Paul Kennedy, Director of the 2012 International Postal Match

help and enthusiasm, this match would not eventuate. Clubs in Australia, Italy, and the USA reported record scores in each Division:

Classic — 156 scores Limited — 199 scores

Open — 95 scores

Josh Lentz put in a marathon effort, winning Open and Classic, and Nate Carmichael was the Limited winner!

LIMITED OPEN CLASSIC 1 Nate Carmichael Josh Lentz Josh Lentz 2 Josh Lentz Clay Donnan Paul Kennedy 3 Ian Rech Dale Harris John Lentz

TOP LADIES Annette Aysen, Limited

Charmaine Donnan, Open Joanna Lenczewska, Classic

To those who competed in 2012, I hope you had some fun and found the stages a reasonable challenge. To those who did not compete…. then why not take up the challenge in 2013, you never know, you might have some fun!

Full results for this 2012 match are on the ICORE web site.

Best wishes for 2013! Introduce someone new to ICORE this year!

Spiritual home to ICORE Australia, Bendigo, in the state of Victoria, was home to the 2012 Australian Regional, and Bendigo Pistol Club was the host range. Competitors were able to register on Thursday afternoon, pick up their match package, and have a quick

peek at the 6 stages that were to be shot on Friday.

Friday morning started with the remaining shooters registering and the RO’s having their briefing on the 6 stages. We had 66 shooters spread over 6 squads with 6 stages. Weather was perfect, with sunny warm conditions. “Which Way to Go” on range 1 was the stage of the day. Shooters had to pull a lever that activated a mover, a turning target, a swinger, a Texas star, and two bobbers… all at the same time! Very cool stage.

Shooting was completed early afternoon to allow setting up of the stages for Saturday and allow shooters to attend the General Meeting, which had great results with Shakey taking the Secretary position for another year. Clay took the Treasurer’s job, and a new Chairman, Stuart Forster, was elected. A special thanks was recorded for Ian Bond for his outstanding efforts and achievements over the past years as ICORE Chairman.

Saturday held 7 stages and went off without any fuss. Sunday’s memorable “stage of the day” was the plate rack collection at varying distances. Shoots were limited and shook up a few competitors, as they were not allowed to back up missed plates without penalty. Chrono was also shot with some competitors coming very close to the 120,000 mark. Only one competitor fell foul and incurred the 360 second penalty. Ouch! The day’s shooting finished at a reasonable time to allow the range fairies to set up the final stages for Sunday. Shooters had time to freshen up and return to the Pistol Club for a catered dinner. The red and white wine provided by one of our sponsors was greatly appreciated. Sunday was a short day with only 3 stages that still featured enough challenges with points available to improve shooters’ placements.

Financial ICORE members were eligible for prize drawings of two Dillon 650 presses with case feeders (retailing at $1,200). Lucky winners were Jason Anderson and Anita Mackiewicz.

Special thanks must go to range, catering, scoring, and all of the other workers who go unnamed. Without their huge effort, we would not be able to run this event.

It was sorry to note that we did not have even one international shooter attend our Regionals. (I can only remember 4 international shooters ever attending over the past 12 years.) Bendigo, a rural city with 120,000 residents, is only an hour and a half drive northwest of Melbourne via dual lane highway, has plentiful accommodations, and has lots to see and do on and off the range. Come on down. We guarantee you will have a great time!

Thanks to Steeve Piscopo for this announcement!

ICORE GOES TO MALTA “Just a quick note to say that AACTS Malta held its first ICORE event in November, and for the first shooting event we had a great response!

AACTS, the Association of Arms Collectors and Target Shooters, was founded on April 4, 2002. At the time, the state of gun collecting and target shooting in Malta was undergoing major changes with newly drafted regulations in the pipeline and new opportunities abroad. Our aim is to promote various types of shooting sports around our island. With over 700 members (50 ladies), satisfaction of our members is our

goal.” Steeve Piscopo

ICORE Rule Book — http://icore.org/rulebook.html

WHAT WAS THAT RULE? PALM SPRINGS GUN CLUB Despite competition with Super Bowl Sunday parties, 26 shooters made it to the Palm Springs, CA club’s first “official” ICORE event, a “Love That Steel” match, with all steel, poppers, and plate racks. Pictured (L-R) with Craig Saito, who sent the announcement and photo, are Tony Moser (ICORE club contact), Craig Salisbury, Eddie Tasaka, & Alan Jenkins.

In the spirit of fair play, ICORE established criteria for ammo used during matches. Section 5.2 of the ICORE Rulebook tells shooters that ammunition must produce a minimum power factor of 120000. Okay, so you think to yourself that it

doesn’t really matter because it’s not an important match? Actually all competitors may be tested for minimum

power factor at any ICORE match. Certain new factory ammo is exempt from the test. Otherwise, flunking the chronograph test results in 360 seconds being added to a competitor's score. Ouch! Hmmm… bullet stuck in paper target?
