Are You a Member of the Oak Legacy Circle?Oakwood is a better place thanks to the generosity of

our donors. One of the most important ways donors can

support Oakwood is with a bequest, also known as a

legacy gift. These vital gifts help grow the Foundation

and impact the lives of Oakwood residents.

In 2020 we are asking you to consider joining our Oak

Legacy Circle by notifying us you have included the

Oakwood Foundation as a part of your estate plans.

Regardless of the size of your legacy gift, you’ll help

to ensure Oakwood remains a great place for older

adults to live and thrive well into the future.

As part of our focus on the Oak Legacy Circle in

2020, we asked a few of the people represented on

Oakwood Foundation donor walls as members of the

Oak Legacy Circle to share their Oakwood story and

why they made the choice to support the people of

Oakwood with a legacy gift. We’ll be offering you the

opportunity to meet these folks throughout the year…

just a few of the names and faces “behind the leaf.”

We moved to Oakwood before we needed to leave

our house…a much better decision than waiting

Your Gifts Make a Difference at Oakwood!Thank you for your support of the Oakwood Foundation. Your gifts improve the lives of our residents and

staff at Oakwood each and every day.

Thanks to your generous support, the Oakwood Board has approved grants of over $440,000 from the

Oakwood Mission Support Fund in 2020. The campus enhancements, program support, and investment in

employees you will make possible at Oakwood this year include:

Certified Nursing Assistant Training $125,000

University Woods Campus Recreational Center $100,000

Leadership Training and Career Growth Opportunities $78,600

Sharing Active, Independent Lives (SAIL) Funding $20,000

Catholic Charities Respite Care Team Ministry Funding $20,000

Oakwood Chamber Players 2020-2021 Season Funding $14,000

Staff Yoga Classes $12,500

In addition, your campus designated gifts are being put to use throughout Oakwood’s two campuses in

the areas you’ve asked the Foundation to support. Your support will allow for $94,812 of enhancements to the

Prairie Ridge campus in 2020, and $195,962 at University Woods. Among the projects and programs you’ve made

possible in 2020 are:

Prairie Ridge

Health and Wellness Equipment $31,722

Campus Memorial Garden $5,000

Music Therapy Equipment and Supplies $2,500

Chapel Devotional Materials $2,000

These projects are in addition to the support you make possible to Oakwood through the Continuing Care

Endowment Fund and the Employee Appreciation Fund. Thank you for the impact you make at Oakwood!

YOUR LEGACY COMMITMENT = $1,000

In 2020, generous donors have agreed to give $1,000

to the Oakwood Foundation each time the Foundation

receives notice of a new legacy gift.

You may have named Oakwood in your will or estate

plans a long time ago, but never told the Foundation. If

so, notifying us of your plans will trigger a $1,000 gift.

If you are considering including the people of

Oakwood in your estate plans, please contact the

Foundation. Keith, Dave, and Heidi can discuss options

donors explore when making a legacy commitment.

The size of your planned gift does not matter.

The $1,000 donor match is being offered for a limited

time, and applies to the first 20 legacy commitments.

Please help us take advantage of this generous offer!

When University Woods Environmental Services

Coordinator Patty Cox received her employee

appreciation gift, she decided she wanted to give back

and have fun.

“On Saturdays, several residents join me on campus to

dance. We meet two times a month and dance to all

kinds of music. We laugh, have fun, and share stories.

The employee appreciation gift allowed me to bring a

special lunch for them. I love working at Oakwood. It’s

changed my life.”

Thanks to donors to the Employee Appreciation Fund for

their generous support of Oakwood employees!

“If I can change someone’s life with a smile, I’m happy…”

The Oak Tree Circle recognizes donors and Oakwood staff

making automatic monthly gifts, either via credit card, ACH, or

employee payroll deduction. At the end of 2016, 48 donors were

giving monthly. That number grew to 67 by the end of 2017, and

to 76 a year later. As 2020 begins, there are now 131 members of

the Oak Tree Circle!

Automatic monthly giving is convenient for donors and deeply

appreciated by Oakwood. If you want to join the Oak Tree

Circle, please contact the Foundation at 230-4285 or email

COVER STORY CONTINUED

until we had no choice. We like the availability of

continuing care and access to our nearby doctors. We

also preferred Oakwood to any of the other retirement

communities in Madison.

Oakwood has a great life enrichment program. Some

of our favorites are the numerous concerts, lectures by

residents and invited speakers, classic movies (as well

as some of the current hits), and the nature preserve.

Oakwood’s employees are calm, pleasant, and ready

to help. Any problems in our apartment are usually

attended to promptly. We appreciate having indoor

parking. One can almost ignore winter here.

We think it is important for Oakwood to be here for

those who need its services. We have a very small

family so we decided to use some of our assets to help

support Oakwood.

Mary Molstad

When Prairie Ridge

opened I knew some

people who were among

the first residents. They

seemed very happy here.

Eventually, I took a tour

and liked what I saw. I

was on the waiting list

for several years before

selling my house and

moving to Oakwood.

I enjoy visiting with residents who have interesting

stories. I am impressed by their array of experiences

and accomplishments.

I chose to support Oakwood because of the important things

it does, like caring for people who run out of money, and

because of the friendly, caring, and helpful staff.

In the future, baby boomers will be looking for places

to live. I feel Oakwood will use my estate gift wisely. If

you’re thinking about doing that too, I encourage you

to consider all the good things that Oakwood has to

offer, and how your dollars can do the most good.

To join Jean, John, and Mary in the Oak Legacy Circle,

please contact Dave Mossner at (608) 230-4441 or via

email at [email protected]

You have several options in creating a legacy gift:

• Name the Oakwood Foundation in your last will and testament, trust document, or estate plan

• Name the Oakwood Foundation as a beneficiary of an Individual Retirement Account, life insurance policy, annuity, or other financial instrument

• Residents of Oakwood may designate a portion of their 90% entrance fee refund as a future gift

• Establish a Charitable Gift Annuity through the Oakwood Foundation. You receive a guaranteed lifetime income, while the remainder of your gift benefits Oakwood

When you include a charity in your estate plan,

it is important to use the correct legal name and

helpful to include the organization’s federal tax

identification number.

Oakwood Foundation, Inc.

Tax ID #: 39 – 1398037

Suggested language: I/we hereby give, devise, and

bequeath to the Oakwood Foundation Inc., a nonprofit,

non-stock Wisconsin corporation with its principal

offices in Madison, Wisconsin (specify certain amount

or percentage), of the rest, residue, and remainder of my

estate be used for the benefit of the Oakwood Foundation.
