WINTER FLEXI-MIX - A MIX OF WINTER VETCH &

WINTER TRITICALE

A “flexible” Autumn Sown Forage Mix

For many of our growers in the North, a spring-sown forage mix is ideal, however for some growers in the central-southern regions, or for those on heavy land in more arable areas, it may be that an Autumn-sown forage mix could be a useful addition to the range. As a result we have introduced winter flexi-mix, but to give the grower extra flexibility, we have chosen varieties which can be sown in the spring if the weather does not allow for autumn sowing. For an added twist, we have also introduced spring flexi-mix, which uses specific spring-sown varieties of vetch and triticale.

The Flexi-mix allows growers to plant a tremendous forage crop in the Autumn, which will perform well on heavy land, and will be early to harvest in the following Summer. Winter Flexi-mix can be grown on low input systems, organic systems, or on a higher input basis. Apply from 20 – 80kg/Ha Nitrogen, and use growth regulators and fungicides, depending on land and desired results.

WINTER FLEXI-MIX

An Autumn Sown Forage Mix Winter Flexi-mix allows growers to plant a tremendous forage crop in the Autumn, but also have the flexibility of being able to change the plan, and hold the seed over and drill in the following spring, should the weather turn against Autumn sowing. This will mean a guarantee that the grower will be able to drill the crop at some point, and we believe this mix will be a tremendous mix for the South-East, drier parts of the country, and particularly suitable for very heavy land where other pulses can struggle.

Yield & Analysis

 High Yielding 11 - 14 tonnes/ acre

 DM 30 - 35%

 D Value 70+

 ME 11.0 - 12.0

 CP 13 - 16%

 STARCH 20+%

Agronomy

 Sowing in October/November

Can be sown in the spring.

Very competitive mix - produces a good thick canopy.

Low input & low pest or disease threat.

Wholecrop harvest in early July (Autumn sown) or August (Spring sown), giving use of the land for the following winter in grass, catch-crops, or winter cereals.

Ideal for both Organic and Conventional growers.

 Can be under-sown.

Vetch are an effective nitrogen-fixing legume so there is a good nitrogen residue for the following crop.
