DROWNING OF MARZANNA
• MARZANNA IS THE SYMBOL OF SPRING. PEOPLE MAKE THE EFFIGY OF MARZANNA AND DROWN IT IN THE RIVER IN ORDER TO GET RID OF WINTER. IT TAKES PLACE ON 21st MARCH – THE FIRST DAY OF SPRING.
„FAT THURSDAY”
• It is the last Thursday before Lent. On that day people enjoy themselves eating a lot of doughnuts.
PALM SUNDAYPALM SUNDAY
• Palm Sunday is the Sunday before Easter and celebrates the arrival of Jesus in Jerusalem. People bring palms to church and the priest blesses them.
EASTER
We bring some food like:eggs,salt,pepper,sausage,
bread and water to church and the priest blesses it. Easter is celebrated in March or
April to commemorate the crucifiction of Jesus and His resurrection 3 days later.
„ŚMIGUS DYNGUS” – WET MONDAY
It is the Monday after Easter Sunday. That day children pour water on each other.
APRIL FOOL’S DAY
• April Fool’s Day is on 1st April. Poeple play tricks and practical jokes on their friends.
MOTHER’S DAY
• In Poland Mother’s Day is celebrated on 26th May. Children give their mothers flowers, small presents and big hugs.
FATHER’S DAY
• It is a new festival, introduced to provide fathers with a similar occasion to Mother’s Day. It is celebrated on 23rd of June.
