A state branding strategy would continue the Wieckert message of being a leading economic development advocate in the Wisconsin legislature.

Research was conducted by bringing in national, regional and local recognized branding firms for insight.

A branding conference series was created in partnership with WisPolitics.

Hundreds of people in Green Bay, Milwaukee and Madison attended these conferences providing opinions.

The first event in Curly’s Pub at historic Lambeau Field drew a capacity crowd in attendance.

Moderated by Tom Still, President of the Wisconsin Technology Council.

An Issue at a Crossroads After failing to become law in

both the 2003 and 2005 Wisconsin legislative sessions, a new strategy had to be employed to get final passage for its third legislative session introduction.

The previous media strategy was getting results, but it needed to be more concentrated and higher profiled.

A media plan was created to emphasize print and radio coverage since this was a story that needed time to be explained in further detail.

Outcome After the bill had been introduced three

times as legislation (2003 AB 240; 2005 AB 389; 2007 AB 265) by Rep. Steve Wieckert, the Wisconsin Department of Tourism administered adopted the idea in 2008.

Its research had demonstrated that branding the state was a valid and worthwhile marketing strategy, backing up previous studies.
