The “Almost Nationwide Permit”* ClassThis permit is valid in 35 states and includes every other state where it is legal for an Oregon resident to carry, except for 4 states. Includes vital information that you need
to know about that we just do not have time to explain in the Oregon class and is highly recommended you attend even if you do not travel out of state. Ten states (including
California) generally prohibit Oregon residents from carry within their borders.We refer to this class as the “How To Stay Out of Jail Class”.
All attendees will receive a 51 page booklet on training and regulations.
Both classes are non-NRA affiliated. Memberships in the National Rifle Association (NRA) will be offered at a discount at class. Membership is not required to attend. Optional live-fire training available at a
later date, including personal defense training classes to attendees.

I decided to add this because I had been working with Home Federal Bank and they were preparing to close, I needed more work and so this was the logical step.” Who are the main players at Kadiddlehopper’s? “It is me for the cleaning business and my wife will help with secretarial items.” Why do you work, live and play in La Pine? “My wife, Jodi, and I have been here since my daughter-in-law, Lisa Steff ey, and step-son, Chance Steff ey, moved to La Pine. (Lisa and Chance were responsible for our new Community Clinic being founded two years ago, June. Before that they owned the La Pine Community Clinic). We followed them here, and now we are here to stay!”What is the potential for growth for your cleaning business? “I would like to keep it fairly small but, eventually I would like to have 1-2 employees. We concentrate on local small businesses. Paulina Peak and City Hall are two of our current customers.”What is your business’s great challenge? “Letting people know that we are here to help is the most diffi cult aspect of starting any business.”What is the biggest highlight of your career? “I was a meat cutter all of my life and had a business in Springfi eld for 25 years. I was approached by some of the hunters who came in. � en we did a video for all hunters at Wilderness Sound Production. � e owner, Larry D. Jones, is a nationally known Bow Hunter. We developed a jerky seasoning that was well liked by our customers. After retiring, we wrote the book and started to sell the seasoning. � e seasoning product is Clem’s Oregon Trail Jerky Seasoning and the book is called "� e Perfect Batch" (regarding jerky and sausage). For more than ten years, we traveled to sportsman shows. Now we do mostly local shows like the recent Christmas Craft Fair right here in La Pine, selling and promoting our line. We now off er a commercial drying screen for drying fruits, vegetables and jerky!”What do you do to relax? “We have a fun business, and I have met scores of wonderful people and we enjoy traveling and meeting new folks.”Tell us something about yourself that few people know about: “Because of our extensive travels to diff erent shows, I have met artisans and writers. I ship our products all over the USA. Even our local Bi-Mart has my Clem’s Oregon Trail Jerky seasoning in the sporting goods section.”In terms of volunteering in the community, what is your personal contribution to the community? “We have joined the Chamber and we are busy working with my church, Living Waters Baptist. We give to the mission in Mexico and now help support an orphanage in Colombia. We also collect cans for the youth group.”What are your plans for the future? “Nothing,” he joked. “I leave future plans to my wife, Jodi!”What advice would you give to community leaders? “I want to say that I am so pleased with La Pine as a place to live. Last night I was coming into town and I saw the Triangle Park (Centennial Park) and saw that it was decorated for the holidays. It is such a nice entrance. I wish we could do the north end the same way. By the way, L&S Gardens did a great job on that little park and lighted sign!”

OBITUARYHerbert Daniel Linker, 73, of Otter Rock, Oregon, died of pancreatic cancer on December 1, 2011, at Samaritan Paci� c Communities Hospital in Newport, Oregon.
He was born to Rudy and Lucy Linker in Wapato, Washington, on October 16, 1938.
Herb was a Boy Scout and achieved the highest rank of Eagle Scout and also received the Silver Beaver award for his many years in Scouting.
In 1961, he graduated from Portland State College with a Bachelor of Science degree and taught in primary schools for 14 years. Herb later received a Masters degree in Mathematics. He joined the United States Army Reserve in 1956 and became full-time in 1975, � nally retiring as a Command Sergeant Major in 1998. He lived in the Oregon City area until 1978 when he moved to Otter Rock.
Herb was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He also loved to � sh, golf, hike and camp.
Herb is survived by his brother, Lavine “Link” Linker of West Linn, Oregon; sister, Lanell Bennett of La Pine, Oregon; nephews, Darren and Matthew Linker, Greg Bennett; and niece, Heather MacLean.
A memorial service with full military honors will be held at noon on Friday, December 30, 2011, at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.

Twenty Rural Oregon Post Offices Saved From Closure After fighting for months against a plan to close scores of Oregon’s rural post offices, Oregon’sSenatorJeffMerkleyhasannouncedthat20arebeingremovedfromthelistandwillremainopenforbusiness. The United States Postal Service wrote in a letter that it had reached the decision after a studydeterminedthat“inclementtopography,lackoflocalconnectingroads,andabsenceofopportunityforalternateaccessdonotallowforreasonablecustomeraccessatthistime”ifthepostofficeswereclosed. Senator Merkley applauded the decision, saying, “These post offices are the heart of theircommunities, and it would be absolutely wrong to close them. The Tackle BoxHave you ever gone to the ODFW point of purchase system
to get that license or tag for a family member or friend as a gift or simply a matter of convenience, only to be met with a disappointment from the clerk? Previously the clerk was not able to sell you another person’s tag or license, but this is one of the changes that has been implemented this upcoming year!
This may seem like a small change to some, but I have attempted to purchase a tag for a family member who was unable to get to a point of sale outlet due to health or work schedule. I hear you saying, “You know that you have drawn the tag or have known you are going to use the license a long time ahead of the purchase deadline, so what is the problem?” But if you are unsure of your work schedule until last minute or maybe have had a surgery and were not sure of your recovery time line, your purchase has been delayed and now the deadline looms.
I was excited to see this change. Even though the argument that these things are able to be purchased online does not mean all of us are interested in attempting to go through the steps to do it online, and if you make a mistake, .... well, you have to go to the ODFW site nearest you (and they are not always near) and the hours are very restricted to weekdays during normal business hours. Again, a challenge.
Being able to purchase this for another family member or friend means you can actually get a gift they want and you know they will use! What a great thing for the ODFW to do for us this year!
Even though you may have already finished your seasonal shopping for all your gift recipients, this is something you can do for an anniversary, birthday or even ‘just because’ gift. You are guaranteed they don’t already have one and will be really excited to receive.
