There is nothing better than a real

scented garden rose, in my opinion...

T he Edge of the Florist create something a little different. Recognising that we can all buy

flowers in virtually every supermarket and garage, Beverly Vos, the entrepreneur behind The Edge of the Florist chooses to focus on a more natural ‘real flowers’ approach..

Beverly says: “Remember in times past flowers had perfume? There is nothing better than a real scented garden rose, in my opinion, so we focus on perfumed roses and flowers, scented foliage and herbs. Most of our arrangements have a combination of scented and unscented flowers (try as one might one will never achieve a fragrant Campanula), scented foliage such as lavender and eucalyptus and herbs such as sage, sorrel, mint, rosemary and thyme.

“I’ve always believed that formal flowers have their place but after living for a number of years in the heart of the Surrey countryside, my preferred style is to arrange flowers in a natural way. Flowers and foliage, (without the interference of wires), that move, stand, curve and sway naturally… as they appear in nature and as we lovingly remember them in our gardens and hedgerows.”

Beverly’s expert team are on hand to help you choose your perfect wedding flowers. Her experienced florists will guide you through the practical matters – the formality of the event, the venue, the season and expected weather, your gown and your budget – which will play a major role in your choice of flower varieties, colours and quantities. As Beverly puts it: “Weddings are

like a symphony – all parts need to be balanced and play in harmony to produce the most wonderful magical day which you will remember forever.”

At your consultation, your florist will make choices that will blend seamlessly with the style of your wedding. The level of formality of your wedding, whether white tie, on a beach or anything in between, should set the standard for the entire affair, including your flowers. For example, if you’re having a black tie affair in a ballroom, the Edge recommends considering classical flowers such as roses, lilies, orchids, amaryllis and traditional foliage’s, perhaps in a white/silver/green palette or one of ivory and pale gold tones. Semi-formal and country or beach weddings have a freer, more casual feeling to them and the colour palette and form of flowers, from your bouquet through to dressing the Wedding Breakfast space, offers a wide variety of alternatives.

In addition to the beautiful flowers, The Edge of the Florist Studio at Smithbrook Kilns on the A281 between Horsham and Guildford, showcases a wonderful collection of gifts for birthdays, weddings, engagements and any other special (or entirely non-special) occasion. Gifts include Vera Wang champagne flutes, Venetian jewellery only available at the Edge, or the finest cashmere pashminas adorned with crystals.
