Principal’s Report

Important: Update of School Records Required by Monday 10 March

We are currently updating all our student enrolment information to place onto the new, centralised system. We appreciate that it will take you some time to complete the forms for each child, but we have also been placed on a short turn-around timeframe.

You will today receive an enrolment form for your child. In this instance the enrolment form is for the collection of information only.

It is most important that we have correct contact details for each student, including emergency contact, and are notified if there have been any changes to medical conditions.

Pages 5 and 6 (Family Details) are also extremely important- often these are the pages that are left incomplete.

Why are they so important? The way that schools receive their funding has been changed. Funding is now based on the Family Occupation and Education Index (FOEI). We are funded according to your actual education history and current occupation; page 2 will support you in understanding what to write.

For example, if you are currently unemployed or studying it is important to write that rather than what your occupation will be in the future. We will receive more funding (in 2015 and beyond) based on this current true information.

Paperwork often makes you want to ‘tear your hair out’. If you need to ask questions or need some help please do not hesitate asking for our confidential support. Kerry, Shannin, Katie, Ben or I are the best people to ask in this case.

FNC Zone Swimming Carnival Congratulations to all the students who competed at the FNC Zone Carnival on Tuesday. 4 students have been selected to participate in Lismore on Wednesday 12th March at the NC Zone Carnival.

Thank you to the parents who helped out during the day especially with timekeeping. Julie Woolfe

PSSA Coordinator

SRC Induction Our elected Student Council Representatives will be presented with their badges during assembly tomorrow, Friday 7th March. All parents are welcome to attend. I would like to congratulate our newly elected SRC members and look forward to the fine contributions they will make to our school. Nadine Toniello SRC Coordinator

Clean Up Australia Day is on again at Wollongbar Public School. Tomorrow, Friday 7th March, is the day when the students of Wollongbar will once again get their gloves on and their bags out and clean up the playground areas of our school. This activity helps to remind us of how important it is to dispose of our waste properly when we have finished with it. Each student will need one glove, a plastic bag, appropriate footwear and a positive attitude.

Five great games to play with the entire family (just to get you started!):

1. Rugby or Soccer –classic games already, everyone knows the basics, but football can be a ton of fun as a family. If there are those playing that shy away from contact, make it a game of two hand tag. Dust off the old ball and forget watching it on the TV, so much more fun live!

2. Badminton – If football is a bit too much for your family, badminton provides a similar experience in a less strenuous arena. Kids, adults and even grandparents can enjoy a fun game of badminton.

3. Horseshoes – This is yet another classic game that can be enjoyed by nearly everyone. The best part about horseshoes is that it provides for conversation and fun all at the same time. When you are waiting your turn you can be spending time with the kids or catching up with your family about their day.

4. Hide and Seek – Although this game is originally a kid’s game, adults can have a fun playing it as well. Set up a specific area to stay within and go back to your childhood. You will be shocked at how much fun this can be.

5. Elastics: – Surely this old game causes memories to surface? You need about 6 – 8 metres of elastic tied at the end to form a circle. Two people stand at each end with the elastic at their ankles, and the others take turns going “In, on, in, out, crisscross, in, over (catching one side of the elastic and taking it across the other), out”. You then progress to the knees, hips, waist, underarms…. Two chairs will do if there are too few people or you want to get some sneaky practice in!

Outdoor games are wonderful because they bring the family together in teamwork, fun and excitement. The exercise you get from running around with the kids is a huge bonus. Although we are in the habit of sitting around after dinner, these games could foster a brand new habit in the years to come. Start a healthy tradition and get outside this year.

Remember ….If you would like to contact the P&C team please contact Donna - mobile: 0413138743, email [email protected] or Tash - mobile: 0407 968 561

The 2014 P&C Committee consists of:

The P&C Secretary is responsible for a range of administrative tasks such as preparing minutes and agendas, receiving and tabling correspondence, writing and despatching outgoing correspondence as required and maintaining official records. If anyone is interested in this important role please contact Donna Lloyd 0413138743 or come along to the next P&C meeting. The Canteen and Uniform Shop are coordinated through the Wollongbar P&C Committee.

If any parent/carer has a complaint or issue regarding P&C matters relating to the Canteen, Uniform Shop or Fund Raising the correct process to follow involves: * Put your concerns in writing and address correspondence to the P&C President. All correspondence can be left with the Office girls. All correspondence is dealt with in a confidential manner and if appropriate, any issues raised will be addressed at the subsequent P&C meeting. * Come to a P&C meeting and raise your concerns about the Canteen, Uniform Shop or Fund Raising.

For more information please contact Donna Lloyd on 0413138743. The School Canteen Having a discussion about what food is sold at the canteen can open a can of worms. Twenty people can have 20 different views on what should and should not be sold at our school canteens. Because of this the Fresh Tastes @School, NSW Healthy School Canteen Strategy was developed to help guide the development of canteen menus and make it easier for canteen coordinators to select what foods should be sold. All School canteens must follow these guidelines. At Wollongbar, the Canteen Coordinators have developed a menu that meets all the guideline requirements and includes a mixture of green and amber foods. The P&C Committee endorses the current menu. If any parent or carer has concerns regarding the current Canteen menu, please feel free to direct all concerns to the P&C Committee. The Committee meets the first Wednesday of every month. Uniform Shop Opening Hours: every Friday 8.30-9.30 am
