    Introduction

    Women in top management positions are still a rarespecies.

    Globally, they comprises only 10% of senior

    manager in fortune 500 companies. In India too , it in no different, may be worse.

    But that does not mean that the situation is notimproving.

    Brief history

    The world historically has been male dominate.

    Women were consider just as means to glorify

    men.

    They were meant to be married off as soon as they

    attain maturity.

    After marriage their duty was to take care of their

    husband and their children. They were not allowed to work or do job to earn

    livelihood.

    Only 5% of the worlds assets are in the name of

    women.

    Men in the Arab states have 3.5 times the

    purchasing power of their female counterparts.

    Women comprises 6% in medium and largeindustry.

    Acc. to industry estimates , IT companies in Indiaemploy 20-25% women while BPOs employ over50%.

    When it comes to the field of entrepreneurship ,

    only 20% of women have dared to venture out in

    India.

    The greatest deterrent to women managers is that

    they are women.

    The financial institution are skeptical about the

    managerial abilities of women.

    Women family obligation also bar them from

    becoming successful managers.

    Indian women give more emphasis to family tiesand relationships.

    have low-level management skills.

    developmental programmes.

    Better educational facilities and schemes should be

    extended to women folk from government.

    Adequate training programme on management

    skills to be provided to women community.

    Encourage women's participation in decision-making.

    Hesitancy to delegate work to peers and direct

    reports given they are promoted due to their

    involvement and hard work.

    Finding time to think and act strategically because
