The above mentioned quote is the one which has stayed in my mind long after I had read the extract Teaching New Worlds/New Words. The striking truthfulness which these words contain is almost shocking. All of us can easily number many occasions in which the blade of letters pierced deeper than any sword. Even though we are desperately trying to forget them, they remain in our memory, lingering, appearing when we expect them the least. It does not even matter if those utterances were full of sweetness or undiluted bitterness. It does not matter if it has been a day or twenty years since you first heard them. They still resonate in your mind. Still, strong, unchanged, haunting…..words.
