University Centre at Blackburn College works in partnership with local businesses to harness local students’ talent, determination and strong work ethics to support employability, education and enterprise.

We offer HNC, HND, Foundation Degrees and Degrees validated by our partners at Lancaster University, University of Central Lancashire, University of South Wales and the University of Cumbria.

What are the types of placement?>

Virtual Placements:

The idea behind this project is very simple. The fact is that like you, many employers face challenges, have ideas and see opportunities that there simply isn’t the time or resources to investigate properly. At the same time, here at the College we have many students who need, as part of their courses, to find ways of testing their knowledge and research skills in the real world, but who often struggle to find suitable organisations to work with.

We aim to bring organisations like yours together with students like ours, to give you access to trained and motivated student researchers keen to look into the things that you need a fresh pair of eyes and hands to explore.

Students would work in their own time to complete tasks to support your business away from your premises. This could be at home or on campus at the University Centre.

Traditional Placements:

A traditional work placement offers students the chance to gain valuable experience spending time working for an employer and carrying out duties or tasks as any other employee of the company would. Students work on your premises to complete work tasks that support your business.

“We have worked closely with the School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at University Centre at Blackburn College for the past three years. We are very keen on bridging the gap between education and the commercial world not only for students coming here on work experience but for our employees to extend their learning at the College. Part of that process has been for us to have all the final year students on the BA (Hons) Graphic Communication degree spend at least a couple of days each with us, working on live briefs. This time has been really valuable for the students to get a feel for our industry and for us to get to know them. We have been so impressed with the calibre of these students we have managed to give full-time employment to at least one every year as soon as they graduate! We are looking this year to increase our association with the University Centre by establishing a ‘Student work experience creative hub’ down here at Workhouse and becoming an official education partner. This facility will be available to students during term time and is a true indication of how pro-active University Centre at Blackburn College have been in generating these ties within industry, which much be a serious consideration for any student choosing where to study.”
