Pedestrians walk into a mountain. A space is carved along side of this built mountain that leads to the core of the building. There are several views cut out of this pathway to allow the visitor to see the vehicle process-ing booths. They appear to be carving at the ground and blurring with the horizontal distant landscape.

TThis border crossing addresses the cultural, programmatic, and concept issues of the United States- Mexico border. It is designed to be a international thresh-old of exploring humanity. The building plays with the idea of anticipation and the human senses. It does this by creating autonomous spaces to be discov-ered and surprise those who wander into them. To reach these spaces, the visi-tor wanders an exterior ramp that goes up towards Mexico. The landscape incloses the ramp, blocking the direct view of the country. The circulation directs the visitor to the light lled, transparent, multi use space. This space glows of light from the distance in the United States, while another space greets Mexico with carved light from the mountain. The carved space plays with darkness and hard light within a gallery. These constrasting spaces allow for cultural exchange and intergration. After wandering through these playful spaces, the visitor is directed down through a central circulation core and towards the processing room.

The ceiling of the carved space ips open into a large, light, breathable space. The materials begin to transition into lighter tectonics as the visitor crosses the threshold into the United States.

TThe pedestrians and vehicles cross underneath a light, open, glowing roof. This acts as the nal piece to the border threshold, acting as a welcome banner to the United States.
