This instruction illustrates the process of making fibre heart samples. Explained pattern details can serve as a guide as well as inspiration for your own interpretation of the shining heart theme.

FIBRE HEART - SAMPLE A

MATERIAL : Barkonie Linen 50/2 - colours #1, 4, 7, 15, 26 and 28

PRICKING works with above mentioned thread. For other materials it should be tested, and enlarged if necessary.

Pattern is divided in 3 parts: • Part 1 - sun circle with rays • Part 2- heart outline • Part 3 - sun centre

PART 1 - SUN CIRCLE WITH RAYS

Starting row, from right to left: 1 worker pair (colour#1-white), 9 passive pairs (2x colour #26-light red, 2x colour#15-orange, 2x colour#7-sun yellow, 2x colour#4-light yellow, 1x colour#1-white), 2 plait pairs (colour#1-white) Magic threads (blue) were used on first and last pin for easier finishing.

First row: Working from right to left, *cloth stitch (C-T-C) trough all 9 passive pairs, twist worker once, cloth stitch through 2 plait pairs, pin between passive and worker (after two threads), twist worker twice

Second row: Work cloth stitch (C-T-C) through 2 plait pairs, twist worker once, cloth stitch (C-T-C) through 9 passive pairs, pin after 2, add two twist to worker around pin.

Third and fourth row: repeat row 1 and 2

At the pin, cloth stitch pairs to start plait back to the circle. **Repeat from * to ** Adjust number of twists and false picot sewings according to sunbeam length.

After finishing sun circle, sew in all pairs to corresponding starting loops.

Pairs that are going to continue to Part 2 are bundled in a roll, covered by few buttonhole stitches and lead together to the headside. All other pairs are knotted, finished and cut off.

Upon completing, sew 2 pairs into starting loop and bring all pairs to the centre. Secure gimp by square knot. Bundle 3 pairs, make a short roll, and cut off all threads but one gimp thread. Use this thread for stitching centre of the sun. With needle pass the thread over and under two bars. As there is even number of bars (10), remember to pass under two sets of bars at the end of every round, to alternate the weave properly.

For the last rows it is easier to use crochet hook instead of needle for weaving. At the end, secure thread with knot and cut it off.

Sun rays are worked exactly same as in fibre heart A : Plait two outer left pairs towards heart outline, place pin under both pairs. Set right pair aside, twist left pair 9-12 times, make picot. After picot, sew pair on itself 3 times to create false plait. At the pin, cloth stitch pairs to start plait back to the circle.**

Repeat from * to **. Adjust number of twists and false picot sewings according to length of sunbeams.

After finishing sun circle, sew in pairs to corresponding starting loops. Bundle all pairs that continue working Part 2 and lead them to heart outline. Leave gimp pair in. Knot and cut off all other pairs.

Part 2 - HEART OUTLINE - same as in fibre heart A

Starting row, from left to right: 1 worker pair (colour#1-white), 6 passive pairs (3x linen colour#1, 2x K.3-colour#05,1x K.2-colour#03 with beads)

First row: cloth stitch (C-T-C) worker trough all 6 passive pairs, pin between last passive and worker (after 2 threads), twist worker twice

Second and Third rows: same as first row, On right passive pair, position one bead between footside pins.

Fourth row: Work cloth stitch (C-T-C) through all 6 passive pairs, twist worker three times and make picot.

After the fifth row (third footside pin), take first right passive pair and twist it several times toward the sun circle. Distribute one or two beads between twists. If the thread is slippery, it is helpful to make knot (buttonhole stitch) under each bead to hold them in place. Sew twisted pair in loop A. After sewing, twist pair several times, with beads in between, and bring it back to its original position. Continue to cloth stitch heart outline. Make another sewing at B. At point C, where heart outline bridges over the sun ray, connect worker to plait by sewing. At the heart tip, sew the worker to sun ray on both sides, footside and headside, for better alignment. Finish the second half of heart outline. Sew all pairs in, bundle and cut off all pairs, but the gimp pair.

Part 3 - FINISHING SUN CENTRE

In this part, gimp pair works as regular pair. Using crochet hook, sew pair to bars, going around the circle.

After several rounds, secure threads with square knot and cut them off. For the last row, use needle with gold thread, back stitch around sun rays and add seed beads between the stitches.
