Eligibility To determine if you are an eligible participant for this training program, a Program Coordinator from UNBC will facilitate a Test of Workplace Essential Skills (TOWES) Assessment. Participants whom skill levels are identified at a pre-defined level will be accepted into training. Eligibility requirements also include Employed in the Natural resource Sector NO Prior industry/post-secondary certification (trades certificates/academic degrees) Approved score on TOWES Assessment NO prior post-secondary courses Training Program The Workplace Excellence Training will provide a total of 35 hours of training to all participants. The training provided by UNBC Continuing Studies provide the following courses: Fundamentals of Project Management, Introduction to Occupational Health and Safety, Effective Workplace Communication and Empowerment in the Workplace. Fundamentals of Project Management Fundamentals of Project Management, is a two-day introductory course, that enables new project managers and project team members to deliver successful projects on time, on budget and within scope. You will maximize your time in this course by having the option of working on components of your own project or a real life case study that is provided. Introduction to Occupational Health and Safety This course provides an overview of the Occupational Health and Safety field and discusses how health and safety relate to an organization’s overall management system. Over 2 days, students will be introduced to topics such as leadership commitment, open communication, and legal accountability as core concepts that form the basis for effective safety programs. Effective Workplace Communication This course will provide participants with the skillsets necessary to effectively express their opinions and ideas, receive information equally and openly, and ensure that their voice is heard within the workplace. Participants will learn how to develop effective listening skills, establish and enhance conversation skills, and increase their ability to communicate their intended message. Empowerment in the Workplace Empowerment in the workplace is a half day course, led by two business professionals, specializing in self- empowerment, and the roles of individuals within a team. Students will learn, understand and engage in personal workplace stress factors, and learn the strategies to address challenges and limitations effectively.
