This half-day workshop aims to bring together qualitative researchers from all areas of psy- chology–cognitive, social, developmental, educational, cultural, clinical, and health - as well as those conducting psychologically relevant qualitative research in other disciplines. The workshop aims at discussing the challenges the field is facing today and exploring pos- sible solutions for advancing the field. The workshop is meant as an informal and stimulating discussion between experts as well as novices, initiated by Jaan Valsiner (Aalborg University), lead and moderated by Carolin De- muth (Aalborg University) and with contributions from Svend Brinkmann (Aalborg University) and Günter Mey (Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences). Possible topics include: Changes and methodological innovations over the last decade What might the broader landscape of qua- litative inquiry look like in the next decade? Qualitative research after the social con- structionist, socio-cultural, and interactio- nal turns – what comes next? Methodological education in light of the in- creasing acceleration, time pressure, and bureaucracy due to international university reformations Pressure for short presentations and pub- lications Increasing diversification of creative new methodologies vs. pressure towards stan- dardization and canonizing e.g. in textbooks as legitimation towards funding organiza- tions Misconceptions of qualitative methods in (mainstream) psychology Ethnocentrism in qualitative research The event will include discussions about a possible special issue of a journal devoted to the theme. We cordially invite interested re- searchers and students to participate in this event!
