Key Concepts

There is enough food supply to feed the 7 billion+ residents of planet earth if it were distributed equitably.

There are standardized ways to measure and define terms related to hunger, including: food security, food insecurity, hunger, and malnutrition.

The root causes of global hunger are complex and place specific.

School feeding programs are a proven way to reduce hunger and to encourage school attendance and education, particularly for girls.

There are many things each of us can do to increase access to nutritious foods for everyone.

Each folder contains opportunities for active learning using a learner centered approach and facilitated group discussions.

Folder 1: World Hunger, Food Security, and Justice for All

If funding and facilities permit, host an Oxfam Hunger Banquet for the first meeting when starting this module.

Folder 2: Hunger at Home and in the WorldCourse participants will individually rate elements of a community food security rubric in preparation for a facilitated group discussion.

Folder 3: Ending Hunger in Our TimeDiscussion of activities on campus related to world hunger and food justice. Consideration of personal commitments.
