1 The Resurrection

Muslims must believe that Allah will resurrect all the dead for their Judgement

Sahih International: They will say, "O woe to us! Who has raised us up from our sleeping place?" [The reply will be], "This is what the Most Merciful had promised, and the messengers told the truth." [ Surah Yasin 36, Ayat 52 ]

1.1 Proof from Qur’an & Sunnah

1.1.1 Direct Mention

Sahih International: Those who disbelieve have claimed that they will never be resurrected. Say, "Yes, by my Lord, you will surely be resurrected; then you will surely be informed of what you did. And that, for Allah, is easy." [ Surah At-Taghabun 64, Ayat 7 ]

1.1.2 Observation

Sahih International: So observe the effects of the mercy of Allah – how He gives life to the earth after its lifelessness. Indeed, that [same one] will give life to the dead, and He is over all things competent. [ Surah Ar-Rum 30, Ayat 50 ]

1.1.3 Affirming Allah’s Power, Knowledge & Wisdom

Sahih International: Indeed, Allah, to return him [to life], is Able. The Day when secrets will be put on trial [ Surah At-Tariq 86, Ayat 8 - 9 ]

Sahih International: Then did you think that We created you uselessly and that to Us you would not be returned?” [ Surah al-Mu'minun 23, Ayat 115 ]

Sahih International: Say, "He will give them life who produced them the first time; and He is, of all creation, Knowing." [ Surah Ya-Sin 36, Ayat 79 ]

1.1.4 Sunnah

The Prophet (saw) said, “All of the human will disintegrate except for his tailbone. From it he was created and from it he will be resurrected” [ Sahih al-Bukhari & Muslim ]

“Then Allah will send a rain like sperm of men, and the people will come out of their graves like a plant grows.” [ al-Hakim, at-Tabarani ]

2 The Blowing : as-Soor

Blowing of the Trumpet is the role of the Angel Israfeel.

2.1 Interval Between Two Blows

Abu Hurairah (ra) said that the Prophet saw) said, “ What is between two blows is forty.” Abu Hurairah was asked whether that meant forty days, months or years, but he refused to answer.

2.2 Opinions1. Majority say it will be blown 3 times2. Some say 2 times3. Qadhi ‘Iyaad says 4 times

2.2.1 As-Soor :: Three Times :: Majority Opinion

Al-Imam at-Tabari reports in his book of tafseer the hadeeth of Abu Hurairah (ra) in which Prophet saw) said, “ The Trumpet will be blown three times. The first one is the Blow of terror, the second is the Blow of Death and the third is the Blowing of Resurrection to stand before the Lord of the Worlds. Allah will command Israfeel to blow the first blow and will say, “ Blow Nafkhat al-Faza,” so all in the heavens and the earth will be terrified except those whom Allah saves. The Abu Hurairah asked, “Who are those meant in the ayah, “And [warn of] the Day the Horn will be blown, and whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth will be terrified except whom Allah wills. And all will come to Him humbled. [Sahih Internationa; Surah An-Naml 27, Ayat 87] “ Prophet (saw) said, “These are the martyrs. That terror will fall upon all the living, and martyrs are alive with their Lord, but Allah will save them from that terror.” The Allah will command Israfeel to blow the Blow of Death by saying “Blow Nafkhat as-Sa’q”, and all that is in the heavens and the earth will die.

Sahih International: And the Horn will be blown, and whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth will fall dead except whom Allah wills. Then it will be blown again, and at once they will be standing, looking on. [ Surah Az-Zumar 39, Ayat 68 ]

6 | P a g e

Page 7: World of the Unseen - II

2.2.2 As-Soor :: Two Times :: Minority Opinion

This opinion considers the “Blow of Terror” and the “Blow of Death” as one. Sahih International: And the Horn will be blown, and whoever is in the heavens and whoever

is on the earth will fall dead except whom Allah wills. Then it will be blown again, and at once they will be standing, looking on. [ Surah Az-Zumar 39, Ayat 68 ]

The hadith of Abdullah ibn ‘Amr ibn al-Al’As, “And then the Trumpet will be blown. The first one who hears it will be a man repairing his water basin. As soon as he hears it he will die and then all other will die. Then the Trumpet will be blown again, and they will all be resurrected, looking around.” [ Mentioned by al-Qurtubi ]

2.2.3 As-Soor :: Four Times :: Minority Opinion

This opinion is of al-Qadhi ‘Iyad The first will kill everything that is alive at the time. The second will resurrect everyone.

Then will come Nafkhat as-Sa’q, which will cause everyone one the Land of Resurrection to die [fall unconscious]. The fourth blow will raise everyone.

The Prophet (saw) said, “ People yus’aqoon (will die / fall unconscious) and I will be the first to get up. I will see Musa(a) holding on to the Throne. I will not know whether he awoke before me, or whether he was spared the Sa’qah because of the incident at at-Toor.” [ Sahih al-Bukhari ]

5 Intercession

Qatada related from Anas that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Allah will gather people on the Day of Rising like that and they will say, 'We should look for someone to intercede with our Lord to relieve us from this place where we are!'

They will go to Adam and say, 'You are one whom Allah created with His hand, to whom His angels prostrates and He taught you the names of all things. Intercede on our behalf with your Lord to relieve us from this place where we are!' He will say, 'I am not worthy of this task,' and he will mention his error and say, 'Go to Nuh. He is the first Messenger that Allah sent to the people of the earth.'

They will go to Nuh and he will say, 'I am not worthy of this task,' and he will mention his error and say, 'Go to Ibrahim, he friend of the All-Merciful.'

They will go to Ibrahim and he will say, 'I am not worthy of this task,' and he will mention the errors he made. 'Go to Musa, a slave to whom Allah gave the Torah and to whom He spoke directly.'

They will go to him and he will say, 'I am not worthy of this task,' and he will mention the error which he made and will say, 'Go to 'Isa, His slave and messenger, His word and spirit (ruh).'

They will go to 'Isa and he will say, 'I am not worthy of this task, Go to Muhammad, a slave whose past and future wrong actions Allah has forgiven.'

They will come to me and I will go to ask permission from my Lord and permission will be given to me. When I see my Lord, I will fall down in prostration and He will leave me as long as Allah wills to leave me. Then I will be told, 'Raise your head, Muhammad. Speak and it will be heard. Ask and you will be given. Intercede and intercession will be granted.' I will lift my head and praise Him with praises which my Lord will teach me.

Then I will intercede and He will fix an amount for me and I will let them into the Garden. Then I will return and when I see my Lord, I will fall down in prostration and He will leave me as long as Allah wills to leave me. Then I will return and say, "O Lord, only those remain in the Fire whom the Qur'an has held and for whom being in it for ever is obliged."'

The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, 'Anyone who said, "There is no god but Allah" and has the weight of a grain of barley of good in his heart will come out of the Fire. Then anyone who said "There is no god but Allah" and has the weight of a grain of what of good in his heart will come out of the Fire. Then anyone who said "There is no god but Allah" and has the weight of a small ant of good in his heart will come out of the Fire.'" [ Bukhari ]

13 | P a g e

Page 14: World of the Unseen - II

Prophet (saw) said, “Al-Madeenah is better for them if they only knew. No one will leave it [due to not desiring it ] without Allah replacing him with something better than he. No one will be patient despite its difficulties, but that I will be an intercessor [or witness] for him on the Day of Resurrection.” [ Muslim ]

5.1 What are the Intercessors ?

1) All the people will brought forth before Allaha. Sahih International : And the heaven will split [open], for that Day it is infirm. And the

angels are at its edges. And there will bear the Throne of your Lord above them, that Day, eight [of them].That Day, you will be exhibited [for judgement]; not hidden among you is anything concealed. So as for he who is given his record in his right hand, he will say, "Here, read my record! Indeed, I was certain that I would be meeting my account."So he will be in a pleasant life –In an elevated garden, Its [fruit] to be picked hanging near. [They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you put forth in the days past." But as for he who is given his record in his left hand, he will say, "Oh, I wish I had not been given my record And had not known what is my account. I wish my death had been the decisive one. [ Surah al-Haqqah 69, Ayat 16 – 27 ]

2) Book of deeds will be given outa. Sahih International: And [for] every person We have imposed his fate upon his neck,

and We will produce for him on the Day of Resurrection a record which he will encounter spread open. [It will be said], "Read your record. Sufficient is yourself against you this Day as accountant." [ Surah al-Isra 17, Ayat 13 – 14 ]

3) Asking & Judgement for deeds that were recorded in their booksa. Sahih International: On the Day when Allah will resurrect them all and inform them

of what they did. Allah had enumerated it, while they forgot it; and Allah is, over all things, Witness. [ Surah al-Mujadilah, Ayat 6 ]

b. Sahih International: So that Allah will recompense every soul for what it earned. Indeed, Allah is swift in account. [ Surah Ibrahim 14, Ayat 51 ]

c. Sahih International: And whether We show you part of what We promise them or take you in death, upon you is only the [duty of] notification, and upon Us is the account. [ Surah ar-Ra’ad 13, Ayat 40 ]

4) Will all creation be judgeda. Sahih International: Then on that Day none will be asked about his sin among men or

jinn. [ Surah ar-Rahman 55, Ayat 39 ]b. Sahih International: He said, “I was only given it because of knowledge I have.” Did

he not know that Allah had destroyed before him of generations those who were greater than him in power and greater in accumulation [of wealth]? But the criminals, about their sins, will not be asked. [ Surah al-Qasas 28, Ayat 78 ]

14 | P a g e

Page 15: World of the Unseen - II

c. Sahih International: Indeed, they who conceal what Allah has sent down of the Book and exchange it for a small price – those consume not into their bellies except the Fire. And Allah will not speak to them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them. And they will have a painful punishment. [ Surah al-Baqarah 2, Ayat 174 ]

d. Sahih International: Then We will surely question those to whom [a message] was sent, and We will surely question the messengers. [ Surah al-Araf 7, Ayat 6 ]

3) The Prophets & Messengersa. Sahih International: Indeed, those who disbelieve in the message after it has come to

them… And indeed, it is a mighty Book. [ Surah an-Nisa 4, Ayat 41 ]

6 The Pool :: al-Hawd

6.1 Al-Hawd will quench thirst

Narrated Sahl bin Sa'd :: I heard the Prophet saying, "I am your predecessor at the Lake-Fount (Kauthar), and whoever will come to it, will drink from it, and whoever will drink from it, will never become thirsty after that. There will come to me some people whom I know and they know me, and then a barrier will be set up between me and them." Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri added that the Prophet further said: "I will say those people are from me. It will be said, 'You do not know what changes and new things they did after you.' Then I will say, 'Far removed (from mercy), far removed (from mercy), those who changed (the religion) after me! "

6.2 Description of al-Hawd

'Abdullah bin 'Amr bin Al-'As (Ra), reported: Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: My Hawd (River in Paradise) (is as wide and broad that it requires) a month's journey (to go round it) all, and its sides are equal and its water is whiter than silver, and its odor is more fragrant than the fragrance of musk, and its jugs (placed round it) are like stars in the sky; and he who drinks from it will never feel thirsty after that.

7 As-Siraat

It is the bridge placed over Hellfire, over which the Muslims will pass to enter Jannah

Sahih International: And there is none of you except he will come to it. This is upon your Lord an inevitability decreed. Then We will save those who feared Allah and leave the wrongdoers within it, on their knees. [ Surah Maryam 19, Ayat 71 – 72 ]

Sahih International: Other than Allah, and guide them to the path of Hellfire [ Surah as-Saffat 37, Ayat 23 ]

7.1 Description of As-Siraat

Aysha (Ra) narrates that the Prophet (saw) said, ‘Hellfire has a bridge that is thinner than a hair and sharper than a sword. On it are hooks and thorns that will take whomsoever Allah wills.” [ Ahmad ]

Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri said, “We asked the Prophet (saw), “What is the Bridge?”, He (saw) replied, “It is slippery and has hooks and thorns…” “ [ Bukhari ]

7.2 How will people cross the Sirat ?

The Sirat Bridge will be set over Hell. The first prophet who will cross it with his nation will be I. [Bukhari]

On the Day of Resurrection I will stand by the side of the Sirat Bridge and wait for my nation to cross it. Allahu ta'ala will say, "Ask for whatever you want. Intercede for whomever you wish, for your intercession will be accepted." After interceding for my nation, I will continue entreating, and I will not rise to my feet until He says, "Put all people into Paradise who said La ilaha ill-Allah once with ikhlas and died with faith. [Imam-i Ahmad]

Crossing the Sirat Bridge depends on everybody's light. Some will cross it in the twinkling of an eye; some, like lightning; some, like a falling star; some, like a running horse. He who has very little light will creep facedown. His hands and feet will slip, and he will cling to it again. At long last, he will break free from it by creeping and creeping. [ Tabarani ]

Sahih International: On the Day you see the believing men and believing women, their light proceeding before them and on their right, [it will be said], "Your good tidings today are [of] gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein you will abide eternally." That is what is the great attainment. On the [same] Day the hypocrite men and hypocrite women will say to those who believed, "Wait for us that we may acquire some of your light." It will be said, "Go back behind you and seek light."

And a wall will be placed between them with a door, its interior containing mercy, but on the outside of it is torment. [ Surah al-Hadid 57, Ayat 12 - 13 ]

7.3 Al-Qantarah

Abu Sa’eed al Khudree reports that the Prophet (saw) said, “when the believers cross the Hellfire, they will be stopped at a small arched bridge (Qantarah) before entering the paradise and will be given retribution for injustices between them until they become purified. (Then) they will be permitted to enter Jannah. So, by the One in Whose Hands is my soul, they will know their way to their homes in Jannah, better than they know their ways to their homes in dunya.” [ Saheeh Al-Bukhari ]

Sahih International: And between them will be a partition, and on [its] elevations are men who recognize all by their mark. And they call out to the companions of Paradise, "Peace be upon you." They have not [yet] entered it, but they long intensely.

And when their eyes are turned toward the companions of the Fire, they say, "Our Lord, do not place us with the wrongdoing people." And the companions of the Elevations will call to men [within Hell] whom they recognize by their mark, saying, "Of no avail to you was your gathering and [the fact] that you were arrogant." [Allah will say], "Are these the ones whom you [inhabitants of Hell] swore that Allah would never offer them mercy? Enter Paradise, [O People of the Elevations]. No fear will there be concerning you, nor will you grieve." [ Surah al-Araf 7, Ayat 46 – 49 ]

But when his Lord appeared to the mountain, He rendered it level, and Moses fell unconscious. And when he awoke, he said, "Exalted are You! I have repented to You, and I am the first of the believers." [ Surah al-A’raf 7, Ayat 143 ]
