Organic (opto)electronic materials have received considerable attention due to their applications in perovskite and flexible electronics, OPVs and OLEDs and many others. Reflecting the rapid growth in research and development of organic (opto)electronic materials over the last few decades, this book provides a comprehensive coverage of the state of the art in an accessible format.

It presents the most widely recognized fundamentals, principles, and mechanisms along with representative examples, key experimental data, and over 200 illustrative figures.

The first book volume is on Perovskite Electronics edited by Professor Jinsong Huang of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Dr Yongbo Yuan of the Central South University, China. Conventional oxide-based perovskites are known for its ferroelectric properties for decades. In the last 10 years, organic-inorganic halide perovskites have emerged and they have been found to process very interesting semiconducting properties. They have excellent photovoltaic properties and the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of a single junction organic-hybrid based perovskite solar cells has exceeded 22% today. In addition to solar cells, this class of materials are now considered for other optoelectronic device applications such as light emitting diodes and photodetectors. This book volume covers some of the fundamental structural and electronic properties of thin films as well as single crystals, and their applications in various optoelectronic devices.

The second book volume is on Organic Photovoltaics edited by Professor Barry Thompson of the University of Southern California. Organic photovoltaics (OPV) has been a subject of active research in the last 20 years. The advantage of OPVs over conventional thin film PV technology is the capability of solution roll-to-roll processing. In contrast to inorganic PV cells which are based on a pn junction device architecture, OPV devices are based on the so-called “bulk heterojunctions” where donor polymers are mixed with organic acceptors to form the junction for charge separation. The early acceptors used were based on fullerene derivatives. While fullerene molecules possessing excellent acceptor properties, they provide limited spectral coverage for light harvesting, resulting a relatively low power conversion efficiency of less than 10%. In the last few years, there has been a rapid development of non-fullerene based small molecule acceptors for OPVs. Because of the excellent spectral coverage, single junction OPV cells with a PCE larger than 13% have been reported. This timely volume covers different aspects of OPVs from the design and synthesis of donor polymers and non-fullerene acceptors, to morphological properties and photophysics properties of the donor acceptor blends, and the device architectures of the devices used.

• It is comprehensive, summarizing the research in field of organic spintronics• Chapters are written by first rate researchers

The first two volumes deal with spin injection, spin transport, spin manipulation and spin pumping into organic semiconductors. The main device that is thoroughly discussed here is the organic spin-valve, where spinterface states at the interface between the organic semiconductor and the ferromagnetic (FM) electrode has been the focus of many chapters. An interesting emerging subject is the role of chirality in the organic layer of the device. A relatively new method of achieving spin aligned carriers in organic semiconductors is spin-pumping, where magnons in the FM substrate generate spin aligned carriers in the organic layer at the FM/organic interface.

The third volume deals mainly with magnetic field effect in organic devices. Several spin-mixture processes that lead to magnetic field effect in devices and films are thoroughly discussed, such as hyperfine interaction, direct spin-orbit coupling, indirect spin-orbit coupling via Δg, triplet-triplet annihilation, and thermal spin alignment. The similarity between the magnetic field effect obtained in optoelectronic devices based on organic semiconductors and the novel hybrid organic-inorganic semiconductors is also a subject of intense interest. The fourth volume deals with spin in molecular films and devices. It includes thorough discussion of spin exchange interaction that leads to organic ferromagnets, as well as manifestation of various spin interactions in thin molecular films and devices.
